Why YSK, Taylor Farms sells their iceberg lettuce to many food stores using different names and you don’t need explosive diarrhea.

Thanks for putting this out there; in general, a lot of people don’t realize that the cheap store-brand and the high dollar name-brand are very often the same exact product from the same exact manufacturer/farm/etc.

It’s called co-packing and all the major suppliers do it for big grocery stores

It’s basically the same concept as Private Labeling

Pay a certain price for the same product but put it under your own label. There are millions of products doing this

Well, not the exact same in all cases. Nicer stores do tend to get the higher graded produce of the harvest.

Yeah it might go through the same factory, but that doesn’t mean it’s the exact same end product or quality.

Happened for a long time as well. In early 90s my friends dad worked for hostess/wonderbread and his boss paid my friend and I ten bucks to take bread out of the expensive stuff and put it in a store brand package then they loaded it on the bread truck to be delivered

I worked for a manufacturer that manufactured white and private labeled food as well as food for the actual name brand.

Often they are the same manufacturer and facility, but the name brand has a higher standard. We were creating a new-to-us kind of food and we could not reach the consistency we wanted, but the grocery store thought it was good enough so that was actually sold for like 6 months before our own product hit the shelves.

Other times they are the exact same (once we figured it out, both us and grocery store brand were the same product).

Other people I worked with that worked for other places said that neither case was uncommon

This is done with everything. Like high end purses and cheap department store stuff will be from the same factory, just different labels.

When the Aldi lettuce costs $2.50 and the same exact lettuce but in Taylor Farms packaging costs $4.50, that’s a pretty steep jump. What exactly is your goal here? Maybe you’ve never noticed the price discrepancy, but it’s there. There’s a poop lettuce crisis happening where people don’t realize that the cheaper store brand stuff they buy instead of the more expensive name brand stuff is indeed part of the problem, and you’re sitting there going “🤓👆 well akshually it’s not THAT much more expensive.” Like, what’s your point here?

What am I trying to scaremonger about? My point is factual, no scare tactics at all, because I’m not trying to scare anyone. The lettuce that Kroger sells for cheap is from the same company that sells the more expensive lettuce, Taylor Farms. That’s the whole entire point. That’s fact. Store brand lettuce is cheaper than name brand lettuce even though it’s the same thing. I don’t know why you’re riding so hard on this. Like I genuinely do not understand what you’re getting at here. You’re the only one who has said the word “premium” at any point, and you seem to be really wound up about it, so I’m gonna let you have fun shadowboxing yourself.
