Wesleyan Discord - with new permanent link
Updated link to discord server:
Join the Wesleyan University server on Discord! For prospective, current, and graduate students!
This server is NOT affiliated with Wesleyan University.
The goals of this discord server is to provide a live platform for the Wes community, featuring channels: where memes can be shared, talents can be showcased, mundane conversations can take place; even philosophical discussions!
I want this to be as accessible as possible for cardinals, like a social hub of information about events/clubs that are taking place on campus, peer review/advice, academic resources, etc. There are even voice channels you can use to listen to music, game, watch a movie, study together.
Steps on getting Discord (if you are unfamiliar):
Make an account AND verify it through the email you used to sign up with.
Join the invite link!
Read the simple server guidelines!
You can reply to this post or PM me any questions you have.
Stay weird, Wes 🐦❤️

Organic chem help
www.organicchemistrytutoring.ca
Hello guys and gals,
We’re Brian and Mike and we teach general and organic chemistry. We’ve done so for a total combined time of 47 years! Overwhelmed by general or organic chemistry? Assignments and tests creeping up on you and feeling like you’re in hot water? Or maybe you’re doing well and need that 95%? Whatever your struggle with chemistry may be, we’re here to make sure you succeed.
Why work with us?
- Every tutor knows the subject, but not every tutor knows how to transfer that knowledge to a student. We do.
- We tutor chemistry full time; it’s not a hobby or side-gig. When you book with us, you’ll be working with Brian for general chemistry and Mike for organic chemistry. This is not an agency and you won’t be matched with random tutors each time.
- You’ll be learning problem solving through chemistry, which you can apply to many other subjects.
- Your learning will be customized to your specific needs.
Before booking a lesson, let’s chat about your needs, our teaching styles, and what you can expect, to see if we’d be a good fit together.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with you!
Mike and Brian

Advice to prospective students: I wouldn't recommend going to Wesleyan
Now, this is just one person's opinion, so don't treat it as gospel or the be-all and end-all, but as an alum, I wouldn't recommend going to Wesleyan.
For some of the highest tuition in the nation, you'll get:
No Latin honors to add to your resume
Resume reviews from students younger than you
Career advisors who have dodged substantive questions for over a decade
No relationships whatsoever with top employers
No "target school" status for rotational programs, unlike Williams or Amherst
Aloof and unfriendly alumni who don't pay it forward
Over-focus from admin/career services on lifestyle careers that aren't attainable for people from modest backgrounds
Somehow, after all of this, they have the gall to beg for more of your money via email.
I strongly recommend going to your flagship state college instead, or a private college with better outcomes, like Emory, BU, or Georgetown. I've seen that friends who attended colleges like these have substantially different experiences.
Again, just my opinion—happy to elaborate on any of the above. Others might feel differently.

How would you describe the culture at Wesleyan?
I’m a prospective applicant. I really like the academics at Wesleyan, but I’m curious what the student life is like. How is the social scene? Are there parties? Is it cliquey?
I come from a high school with over 1000 students in my class and I’m mildly concerned that the university’s small size will feel like high school all over again.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Wesleyan summer film iso
Hey Wesleyan! I just graduated from my undergrad at another university and am going to do a mfa in film in the fall.
Due to a turn of events, I’ll be staying here in Connecticut until then, so I’ve been looking for opportunities to get more experience around here. I know that Wesleyan has a relatively populous film community, so I was just wondering if there were any filmmakers that want an extra set of hands on their projects shooting this summer.
I’m training in cinematography, but am open to most roles down to PA.

Need ride to graduation
Hi! I am seeing a friend graduate on Sunday. I am planning on coming up from NYC. I am looking to keep costs down. If anyone has some leads on some carpools from NYC or New Haven, would be very appreciated!! Either way would be very helpful

Can you check out equipment from the film department if you're making a short film outside of class? similarly, can you do art in studio spaces and use art dept. materials even if you don't have art classes?

Colby vs Wesleyan vs BU?
I've been committed to Colby but got off the BU and Wesleyan waitlists this week. Im leaning a bit more towards Colby and Wesleyan because I'm not sure how I'd feel being in a city, but not really sure which one would be a better fit for me. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Laptop Requirements for a CS/Chem Major
Hi guys, I'm a prospective CS/Chem double major and I'm looking at getting a laptop for the fall. For people in these majors, what kinds of programs do you run? (Beyond IDEs, Debuggers, etc) Are there any programs that require windows, for example? What kind of specs do you have for your laptop? Do you think they fit your needs?
I've heard Wes is a pretty Macbook heavy campus, and I just want to get a good feel of what I'd need. I like using linux, so if that's an option that would be great. I'd love to hear what you have to say! Budget isn't a huge concern, but probably no more than $2,000 if I could avoid it. Thanks in advance ❤️

F-1 Visa issued for itl students
I’m just curious of when Wes issues F-1 visa for itl after requesting student’s information. I’ve sent it more than 3 weeks ago and still wait. Welcome to share your journey as a current or alumni student at Wes as well!!!

How Good is Econ at Wes?
Hi all, prospective first year here. I have heard Wes has a good econ department for undergrad. Is this true? How hard are the econ classes? How hard is it to get involved in econ research? Do econ students go into graduate research often?

Where to donate textbooks
I am not a student, I am a resident of Middletown. I'm looking to donate all the books I own that I don't need anymore, but the library doesn't accept donations of textbooks. Does anyone know where I can donate textbooks? I don't want to donate them by mail because that seems like more of a hassle.

F-1 visa
Hi, did any intl student receive their I-20 forms or the request to start one? Seems like every other school has already sent it but not Wesleyan

Student Culture/Activities at Wesleyan
Hi! I'm currently choosing between Wesleyan University and Colby College. A big difference seems to be in the student culture and activities.
- At Wesleyan, what kind of outdoorsy activities are there to do?
- Does the student culture at Wesleyan feel overwhelmingly artsy and woke. As a kinda preppy guy, I'm open to going to Wesleyan for a fresh change of scene, but don't want it to feel overwhelmingly different from what I'm used to.
Thanks!!!

Film studies with no prior experience?
My kid was accepted to Wesleyan and is now wondering if pursuing film studies is possible or just for students coming in with real training/experience in film media. He has a real passion for movies but has never taken a film studies class or made his own short films. He’s more of a movie enthusiast with insightful observations and opinions on what he’s watched. Is it realistic for him to go to Wesleyan with the hopes of giving film studies a try?

Hi! I'm currently deciding between Wesleyan University and Haverford College for pre med. I love both schools but so confused on where I want to commit. Can anyone lmk about the opportunities for pre-med students at wesleyan/haverford? (I got a full ride to both)
