I'm pretty sure this is a user error with a setting I've forgotten about, but I can't find a way to undo it. It's been this way for a week or two, and I installed v4.75 64bit a few days ago to see if that would make a difference. Nope.

The VLC window seems a few pixels too short. When I open an image, there are horizontal and vertical scroll bars that obscure the right and bottom edges, even though my view is set to Fit Image To Window.

If the image is narrower than the menu bar, then only the vertical slider shows. This makes me think it's only a height problem — plus the fact that if I drag the bottom edge down, the scroll bars will disappear (but not so if I drag an edge to the right or left).

How can I undo this unfortunately behavior? TIA.

I wanted to download VLC on a macbook but everytime I went to VideoLAN's website (and the website specifically for VLC) and tried downloading VLC, I'd get either of two errors.

One I got where the web browser took too much time to connect and eventually gave up, giving the error of "[Browser] couldn't find server address", and the other error was an incorrect address report.

Had the same errors since yesterday, also used two browsers. Internet works fine so my next guess is the computer I'm using but I'm not very confident it that being the problem.

Don't really know what else the issue could be : / pls fix

I recently got a new phone (Samsung Galaxy S21) and I reinstalled VLC media player to listen to music. After giving it the required permissions and letting it access my music folder, it just closed.

When I reopened the app it closed after about a half second. I've tried advice I found online (clearing the cache and data, restarting my phone, etc). But the furthest I've been able to get is by uninstalling VLC, reinstalling it, letting it crash, clearing its data, and reopening it again. This will let me listen to music for about 20 seconds while it loads all of my files, but then it will crash again after getting to 60% parsing of the files.

I've​ also noticed that after crashing it loses all permissions except notifications but even after giving it permissions again it will still crash.

If anyone has a fix for this or can recommend alternative audio file players for android it would be much appreciated.

EDIT: I have (hopefully) found the issue to my problem. I tried giving access to all of my files one at a time to check if any specific album was causing the crash, it turns out that one specific file would crash VLC when it was scanned. The album was just a bunch of flac songs so I don't know why it caused the crash but after banning the files from being scanned VLC seems to work fine right now.

I just discovered if you watch the movie or any file named Kill Bill on VLC media player, the cone turns yellow and black with a bit blood on it.

I found it cool and made this cone based on The Shining.

First of all, I went to Settings>Apps>Default and tried sitting it there. There are a ton of ones to chose from. (.voc, .tp, .ram).

Whenever I toggle off and then toggle back on fullscreen, the screen shrinks and does not go back to it's original size. it's been like this ever since i switched to the x64 version of VLC. Does anyone know what the problem is and what the fix is?

I had a very specific issue when playing a DVD last night that made me want to tear my hair out. It was super easy to solve but because the internet is a nightmare to search nowadays it was WAY harder than it needed to be. So I figured I would offer what worked for me just in case it helps anyone else.

If you are:

1. Trying to play a DVD in VLC media player AND
2. That DVD freezes or shows a black screen when you transition between titles or chapters,

try turning off deinterlacing. You can do this by clicking Video > Deinterlace > Off.

I also saw performance improvements by increasing DVD caching and creating an exception for VLC Media Player in Windows Defender, but as far as I can tell they were NOT the cause of the problem.

I can't explain to you why deinterlacing was the culprit. I know very little about video formats so It would be cool if someone who knows more than me could chime in. Totally possible that this is an obvious fix for people who are more knowledgeable, but I figured there were probably other people who are using VLC because they're into FOSS but get lost in all the controls and options.

Setup for people who are interested:

• VLC version 3.023 (most recent as of posting)
• Windows 10 64bit
• Eight-ish year old USB LG combo DVD/BluRay player of unknown model
• Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVD set from ~2002 (secondhand)

VLC would lag in menus, not display menu transitions, and would correctly display the first chapter in a title but show a black screen with correct audio for all subsequent chapters. DVDs played perfectly fine in a Playstation so I knew they weren't the issue.

I used OpenShot Video Editor to grab a clip of a .MOV file. I used the default export function just to make a quick clip. When I play the clip in VLC (installed or portable) the video starts disabled. I tried on other players, (Kodi, SMPlayer) and the video played without issue.

Hey everyone,

I'm having a painful time trying to get Arabic subtitles properly synced with my copy of Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I already fixed the character encoding issue in VLC (Arabic Windows-1256), so the text displays properly now instead of random symbols. However, I can't get the timing to stay synced.

The Problem: No matter what .srt file I load, the subtitles drift out of sync. If I manually adjust the delay using G / H keys or VLC's Track Synchronization tool to match the beginning of the movie, it slowly pulls out of sync again a few minutes later (looks like a frame-rate mismatch issue, e.g., 25fps sub vs 23.976fps video).

What I've tried so far:

• Downloading multiple options through VLSub inside VLC.
• Manually adjusting the track delay (drifts back out of sync).

Does anyone have a properly synced Arabic .srt file for the Silence / 1080p BluRay x265 encode, or know a quick way to re-frame rate / auto-sync the .srt to match this specific release?

Build-in media players for cloud storage suck, and I'd like to know if it's possible to get VLC to access, say, kdrive or drop box to play the files remotely. I hear that it's possible with google drive, specifically, but I don't know the details and I'd rather not use google drive.

Has there been a change to where some formats/codecs are no longer supported?

When I was on a recent flight, out of boredom I tried watching some old videos on my phone's memory card I downloaded years ago. They used to be playable fine when this card was in an older phone, both in VLC as well as my phone's native gallery app. Now they play in neither.

In VLC after clicking the video (a .MP4) from within the VLC file explorer, it just displays black for a couple seconds before throwing back to the file browser.

Tried clearing app data/cache with no success. No updates showed as available for the app in the play store once I landed. Uninstalling the app didn't help either.

Since these aren't supported by the normal android gallery or file apps either (which they used to be on older phones since this is the same memory card), could this be some Android OS level change to codecs/dependencies that players need?

VLC IS set as my default media player (video and audio files) and I've been VERY happy using it for literally years. Within the last few months I've had to double click either the media I want to play or the VLC application several times before it will actually launch, sometimes as many as a dozen (double) clicks to launch it. After it launches successfully the first time, it will behave properly for a few hours and then lose it's mind again.

I have tried uninstalling, cleaning the registry, and reinstalling with no change in behavior.

Any ideas from the hive mind?

EDIT: PS: Used for years across all my OSes/devices. Great, robust app it used to be. Install and throw anything at it (still the same here btw). Recently, however, it is loosing its robustness.

* The double tap seek is glitchy, holds for a sec and then plays.

* Audio cuts off a little while resuming after pause or seeking.

* Audio delay has to be -350ms for bt headphones (which is not a big deal).

* Often fails to search for subtitles. Just shows a red Retry button which does nothing.

* (Recently, when trying a reinstall, and was not given permission to access files, it opened the video fine when clicked on video, but) crashed when tried to download subtitles (search was successful, clicking the DL button crashed it)

Everytime, I thought the next version might fix it.

Tried Nova Video Player from FDroid. It beats VLC at the above. It has a few minor issues of its own but the ones mentioned are the biggest for me.

PS: When vlc is not open (not even in bg) and I touch my bt headphones (mostly accidentally while removing or putting on) the same song (mp3) starts playing in the bg out of nowhere.

I have tried vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name and still couldn’t figure out how to get it working. please just explain to me how to get a blu ray disc to work step by step as if I was an idiot.

Never really used VLC for iOS until recently, oh my god is it so much easier to load videos onto my iPad than damn iTunes.

The sharing via WiFi is absolutely amazing, after what I’ve been dealing with transferring files from Windows to iOS via iTunes, this is a breath of fresh air.

Tried to figure out how to solve this for a while...man, cant find a straightforward answer on something so simple. youtube or some dummy articles were wasting so much time.

The "buttons area" horizontal line shows up in another window rather than within the video I would be currently watching, how to mesh it together as other normal vlc arrangements? - ex, next img.

I'm watching a German movie, and I'd like VLC to display German and English subtitles simultaneously. What's the easiest way of doing it?

Hopefully, i can explain this properly and clearly. I have created a playlist of videos with about 4000 clips. I play the playlist and come across a video I want to add to another playlist. So I use the save playlist option in the side menu to add the video to a new list. The new playlist is created but it adds all 4000 videos of the original playlist not the one video I just wanted added. I'm not sure where im going wrong? Anyone else experienced this bug?

I don't know what an AACS is and I wouldn't know where to put it if I got one. And I have no idea where the "log" is it's referring to

Any ideas that could help?

Not sure where I'm going wrong, but I'm trying to play a blu-ray with the VLC integration. I've checked it on in MakeMKV, but I'm still getting this error. Anyone have an idea as to why? I've checked VLC to make sure the region code is set right, so I'm unsure what the problem is.
