Favorite things about the UES in the summer?
I’ve been loving our neighborhood this summer. Quiet steamy mornings in the park, walking up East End to take the ferry over to LIC, eating in restaurants that will be (more) abuzz come fall.
What are the things you like to take advantage of while many of our neighbors are off at the beach?

87th & 2nd Situation
After a brief absence the two very skinny older guys are slumped back in their spots under the 87th Street scaffolding AND a new random beefy looking bald guy is lurking around with them? Looks well dressed? What is going on? Who is he? Maybe neighbors should just call for wellness checks every time we see this crew to actually check everyone’s wellness but also make it a less appealing camp out choice?

Upside Pizza To Open Slice And Soft Serve Shop On The UES
patch.comFinally space at Second and 78th sees some action. It's been ages since anything was there since sushi place closed many years ago.
Former diner next door is still vacant and nothing seems to be happening there.
OTOH building next door (next to synagogue) seems to have rented residential units above and a new ground floor business seems set to open.

Old car parked on 96th and 3rd
Does anyone know what the deal is with this car? It’s always parked in this exact spot, and I don’t think it’s ever been moved in the 2.5 years that I have lived in the area. I figure if anyone can provide an answer, it will be this subreddit!

Does anyone else love the corners of 87th and 1st on rainy days?
I’m specifically talking about the entrance to 86th Street station, right by the CVS, right under Yorkshire Towers— it’s a cozy spot to be protected from the rainfall! I’m thinking about mailing Julie Menin’s office to advocate for keeping the scaffolding up indefinitely.

M86 question
Did anyone else notice they are throwing some short busses into the rotation during the morning rush? Was it always this way?
This is bad because it fills up immediately at the first or second stop and then crawls along like the M31 as people fight to get on and off at every subsequent stop. Eventually a couple of the regular long busses get stacked up right behind it.
If this is new, can Zohran the fast bus czar to please get it changed back?

Best halal trucks UES?
Moved here in April and am curious what people think the best halal trucks are in the area. I noticed the guy on 94th and second has the meat on a spit which makes him better than many of the other guys I've seen but this area seems more prone to the breakfast carts than halal carts.

Is there an official sign-up, or are the courts first-come, first-serve?

Water Shutoff - 3rd Ave
Anyone else's building on 3rd ave having an emergency water shut off overnight? A little bit suspicious after so many buildings here have tested positive for legionella

Amazon Delivery Biker ran stop light almost ran over me on 2nd ave. Rise in reckless delivery bikers?
Not sure there's much I can do after the fact, but it kinda feels helpless to almost be barrelled over and not be able to report the driver. Wasn't able to get any identifying information.
What do we do with these amazon "bikes" blowing through red lights? Surely I could have easily been seriously injured.

Cheapest places to work out on the UES?
No tongue in cheek comments about running outside, please!
Open to gyms, specialty fitness type places, membership tier info, etc.
Bonus if I'm not the only fat person working out there lol
Thank you so much

The bakeries on Lex. (86th)
There is a small stretch of bakeries between 84 and 88 on Lex. The French one on 85th (bus stop in front). On 87th is Eli's, one next to it with a nice chandelier, and across the street at the corner (next to Staples) is another one. Any comments on which are great?

Gopuff at 90 & Lex Question.
How does the Gopuff 90 & Lex work? Is it strictly a distribution center or can you walk in and shop? I have walked straight through the open front door and into the back several times, it feels a little weird doing this but there aren't any signs saying not to and they have their physical store hours listed as open on the front of the store and a cash register in the front to checkout. I normally just find a Gopuff worker in the warehouse to check me out and they do it. Am I doing this correctly?

Am I tweaking, or did the right lane approaching the 96th st exit on northbound FDR become exit only?
Has this always been the case or is this recent? I take this route somewhat frequently and I feel like it’s new? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Places like solidcore in the neighborhood?
Hi everyone! I have always wanted to try solidcore but unfortunately the closest location is a 30 min walk. I am looking for a similar workout within a max 15 min walking distance. For reference, I live on East End!

Do you actually research buildings before applying or just tour them?
Apartment hunting on the UES has turned into way more of a research project than I expected.
Before I even schedule a tour, I'll usually search the address on Reddit, read Google reviews, check Streetsmart and see if there's any history that might explain why a place has been sitting on the market.
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but application fees are expensive enough that I'd rather spend 20 minutes researching than waste a few hundred dollars.
Curious what everyone else does. Do you mostly trust the tour, or do you have a checklist before you even reach out to the broker?

Extremely niche butterfield market question
Hey guys! My boyfriend grew up on the upper east side and told me a story about his favorite treat growing up called half dips from butterfield market.
they were some sort of cookie with apricot and half dipped in chocolate. His birthday is coming up and I’ve scoured the internet and can’t find anything about where I could buy these. Butterfield market has no clue what I was talking about! Checking here to see if any other upper east siders know about these treats?

Fairway bakery change?
Fairway has always had the best baguettes and fresh baked goods. Lately I’ve only seen Orwasher’s?
Please tell me I’m hallucinating this sad new world?

How is living between 90th- 93rd and east of 2nd Avenue?
Looking for any input from anyone currently living in this area. How do you like it? Any pros/ cons? Looking for a new apt and there are quite a few more reasonable options in this area. Seems like you get a little more bang for your buck, but curious what the downsides are.
We are a late 30s couple with a toddler fwiw.
