PSA: start-of-semester logistics compilation

In anticipation of common Qs:

Fast track offers / worried about not meeting the guaranteed rank score

Dress code

What is the WTR course?

Back-to-back classes on timetable

  • Classes are 50 minutes in duration. They start at 5 minutes past the hour and finish 5 minutes before the hour, allowing 10 minutes changeover between classes for comfort breaks/snacks/travel. So please don't stress about back-to-back classes.
  • Classes between different campuses: this is especially common for biomed classes. Courses usually know about this and negotiate slightly earlier finish time / slightly later starting time to allow more time for inter-campus commute. If not, raise the issue with your course coordinator.

Finding rooms/class locations

  • The first 3 digits of a room number corresponds with the sector/building number; the final 3 digits indicate the floor and room number.
    • e.g. 405-422 would be building 405 (Engineering), Level 4, room (4)22.
    • Sector 1xx = Clock tower/General Library block
    • Sector 2xx = Business School block (inc. Owen G Glenn Building (OGGB), Arts/Education building)
    • Sector 3xx = Science block
    • Sector 4xx = Engineering block
    • Sector 5xx = Grafton Campus
    • Sector 7xx = [No longer applicable - old Tamaki Campus]
    • Sector 6xx = Upper Symonds St
    • Sector 8xx = Law school
    • Sector 9xx = Newmarket Campus

Courses How on earth does Maths 361 have so many people

Upvotes

On tuesday at the maths 361 lecture there was hundreds of people, several times more than those who attended maths 260 and significantly more than any other maths course I have taken. Is physics that popular several times over than maths or is there something else causing so many people to take 361?

Social Looking for 2 more girls to fill a spot in a mixed social game this upcoming monday (+ more mondays if youre interested!) 😊

Upvotes

Hiya

I’m playing in a mixed social game this Monday at 7:35 pm at Remuera College Rifles, and our team needs a couple more girls to play.

If you’re keen, send me a DM! There’s zero expectation that you need to be good (I definitely am not good myself)... And if you’re worried about not knowing anyone, don’t worry, as I only know one other person on the team, and it’ll be my first time playing with them too, so we’ll kinda both be in the same boat.

We just need a couple more girls to fill the spot, so if you’re keen to give it a go, let me know! 😊. And if you enjoy it, you can continue playing for the season if interested(:

ADHD University Students NZ

Kia ora everyone!

I’m currently completing my thesis research and am looking for participants to take part in a short online survey about ADHD, executive functioning, and well-being in university students. I would really appreciate it if you could help me by taking the survey.

You can take part if you:

·      Identify as having ADHD (formally diagnosed or self-diagnosed)

·      Are currently enrolled at a New Zealand university

·      Are aged 18 or over

The survey takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. It includes questions about ADHD traits, executive functioning, and well-being.

Your input would be hugely valuable in helping improve understanding of ADHD experiences in university settings.

[This research has been approved by Victoria University of Wellington’s Human Ethics Committee: HE040121]()

If you’re interested, you can take the survey here: https://vuw.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9vM5Eapp2FYHbh4

Ngā mihi nui, thank you so much for your time and support!

Has anyone taken MGMT 211 this year? I heard the course has changed recently, so I'm especially curious about the group assignment and what you actually have to do for it in class. Thanks!

DEADLINES🤣🤣

Genuine question, how do y'all actually manage deadlines? I swear it's just pure procastination over here. Norton- google calendar are all great- but honestly after three days the novelty wears off and I cant be asked at all. For me its like the dissertation/assignment just seems so damn big I can't be asked to open it at all, as for grades I kinda suck at keeping track of em. Can't afford to fail though- someone please help 😭😭😭. I'm actually a serious student- I'll try find an app to help somehow, in the mean time how do you guys do well academically?

Which courier service does the university use to post certificates?

Might graduate in absentia this September, as international travel is expensive asf and courier services internationally is $60, which is much more affordable.

Was just wondering though, which courier service does the university use for posting the graduation certificate and other official certificates? Do they use DHL, FedEx or something else? Any international student who opted for the post option, any information on that?

Uni hall Apartments for second years?

Hello! I just saw on the website that apparently it seems like they may be making Apartments only for first years. Is this true?

I was thinking of going there next year with my partner :( and I literally checked like a year ago and I'm sure it used to say for all undergrads D:

Hi everyone,

Has anyone taken COMPSCI 750?

I'm interested in learning more about the course. What are the assignments like, and how difficult is it overall?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

2nd year history paper opinions

Hey everyone! First-year history major here, looking for some insights into Stage 2 history papers, particularly HIST 243, 217, 210, and 259. They all sound super interesting, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's actually taken these.

I'm not worried about them being "easy", I'm genuinely keen to learn and what really matters to me is engaging lecturers and how well the material is presented etc. Any opinions or recommendations on papers you've enjoyed would be massively appreciated!

Advice for SSO Error

Hey, just a little bit of advice for anyone who didn’t know this already, but if you are trying to open SSO and it comes up with the glitch saying “Service Temporarily Unavailable” just look at the link until you find “login&errorCode” and just remove the “&error” and it should open perfectly fine!

Is SOCIOL103 difficult?

To those who have taken SOCIOL103, my friend and I are looking to switch into that course and were wondering how your experiences with the assignments were? Are they marked harshly, and how difficult would you say they are? Is the exam open book? We are also Part I LLB students so we need to maintain a high GPA for Part II entry.

Courses Swapping without prerequisites

Sooo I have a friend and we signed up to an elective together
The prerequisite was one of our core courses (they failed and need to retake)

She still managed to get into the class, even though she failed. We found out an amazing lecturer teaches on a different day & we went to swap, but it wouldn’t let her.

Should we go to student hubs to see if we can swap? Or should we keep it under the radar so she doesn’t get booted out
