Interestingly enough, the only known species of Cuttlefish that is poisonous. The lethality of the poison is allegedly on a similar level to that of a Blue Ringed Octopus.

Strobe Comparison
Hello everybody 👋🏼
For the photographers in this community, can someone offer me some feedback regarding the Marelux Apollo S strobe and how it compares to the Sea&sea YS D3 Duo? Much appreciated.
Thanks 🙌🏼

That moment when a Caribbean Reef Octopus turns electric blue 👀 🐙 Has anyone else ever seen this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Fun facts: octopuses have three hearts, blue blood, and most of their neurons are actually in their arms. Their suckers can taste what they touch and that electric-blue flash came from reflective cells in the skin changing almost instantly.
Filmed with a GoPro HERO13 Black.

First time using strobe
I’ve recently started underwater photography. I’ve never really shot with a flash / strobe even above water. I have my settings in the camera set how the manuals / YouTube videos say to set it. I just started with some test shots yesterday. With the strobe, the background is quite dark while the subject is well lit. I’ve tried opening my aperature a bit but the background darkness is still there. Is this something to fix in the camera or should I just fine tune it in post?

Looking for an underwater camera for a whale shark trip - complete beginner.
Hey guys,
Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong reddit.
So, in September, I am heading over to Zanzibar on holiday and during the trip, I am going swimming with Whale Sharks.
I figured this is a once in a lifetime and figured I should document it to look back on in a few years. Issue is, I'm a complete newbie to underwater videoing and photography... well photography in general 😂.
So, I'm here for some advice. I figured as this is your guys passion, you'd be able to help me...
What would be the best camera I can look in to getting? Please bare in mind, I live in the UK so this camera will probably never be used again so I don't really want to be paying mega mega expensive.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Nikon D200 Ikelite housing
Considering purchasing the following as I have a Nikon D200
How can I check that it will be compatible with the lenses I have? I can never figure out how the port systems work with Ikelite. Anything else I should look out for? Will only purchase if the seller can confirm that there are no leaks and scratches on the front port. There is also an authorized service center in my city which I can take it to if needed
Thanks!

Call to backscatter
I've seen a lot of comments from people saying that you can call Backscatter for advice on camera gear. Could you give me more details about how this works?

€6,000 Budget Advice: Sony a6700 vs. Alternatives?
Dear all,
I have a €6,000 budget for a new underwater photography setup and would love to get your input.
My initial plan:
- Camera & Lens: Sony a6700 + 16-50mm kit lens
- Housing: Ikelite housing + port + anti-reflection ring + zoom gear
- Lighting: Single Ikelite DS165 TTL strobe + sync cord + ball arm
This total comes out to around €5,500.
What do you think about this combination? Is the 16-50mm lens going to limit the a6700's potential under water, or should I consider a different lens right from the start?
Also, for this budget, is there a better alternative setup that I should look into? I prefer sony because I got a few lenses for it already (Sigma 19mm f/2.8, Sony FE 50mm f.1.8, and the Sony 55-210mm.)
Kind regards,

Spanish shawl nudibrach
Another one from last week. Tiny little Spanish shawl, Flabellinopsis iodinea, about 2cm. This species is very common here in California.
