Help me find him!

Long story short. I work for a community services peak body here in Brisbane and my boss is looking for a PHD Student at UQ who has the exact skillset we need for a data project related to violence prevention.

He did a data project at Brisbane Airport, mapping flight paths and times, that improved the efficiency of the airport. He was also apparently the President of an obscure sport at UQ.

Problem is, we have no idea what his name is. We have tried through all our contacts, emailed all the clubs to no response, trawled through event photos. No dice.

Anyone have any idea who this legend is? Even a name will do and we can chase him up from there.

Thanks!

Is it possible to switch timetables with another person

Just wanted to check whether I can switch timetables with another classmate of mine. We're in different groups (so different times) but are in the exact same courses in physio

I think the ferry terminal at UQ is cool

I think it is possibly the coolest way to go from UQ to the city

Boat 🛥️

Something to do with the wind or something

I saw a crow today

I love crows

Crows are adorable

That’s it

If the Big Cactus is to Perth, what is what is to UQ?

Steak was good

I don’t know what this post is about anymore

First Year Law

Does anyone who didn’t do too well at law in UQ (not on purpose) end up getting better grades over time? and how did you do it? I’m a 1L student and i find UQ law assessments to be super discouraging and making me question whether I will ever be able to do well in this course. I love law, and the content i’m learning, but for whatever reason in the exams I cannot apply it properly regardless of how much i practise (4, 5), while some of my friends get pretty good grades seamlessly (6). It’s making me think I might not have what it takes for law specifically and making me almost feel behind/ dumb even though i was caught up on content. even though I know it may possibly get better with time i am feeling really discouraged and want advice on how to possibly improve especially on exams.

UQ Orientation Highlights: Met some Aussie locals! 🐨🐍

Spotted a fun setup at one of the UQ orientation booths featuring a koala, an echidna, a python, and a small crocodile.

The Koala: Absolutely adorable. Their entire daily schedule consists of munching through eucalyptus leaves at lightning speed—reminiscent of Flash the Sloth from Zootopia—and then immediately passing out on a tree branch.

The Echidna: Along with the platypus, echidnas are the only two surviving monotremes on Earth. They are mammals that lay eggs and have a pouch. While their quills look like a hedgehog's, they actually aren't that sharp if you stroke them in the direction they grow.

The Crocodile & Python: Their skin was surprisingly smooth to the touch, probably because these two were still pretty young.

Being cold-blooded, they seemed super chill and barely moved when brought out into the sun from the shade, letting everyone pet them. But after baking in the sun for a few minutes, their energy levels started loading up.

As a warm-blooded mammal, I sometimes envy cold-blooded animals for being able to eat one meal and call it a month. But then again, they probably envy our ability to get up and move around whenever we want, regardless of the temperature.

It reminds me of how lions in Africa will sometimes steal a crocodile's prey right in front of its face early in the morning. The poor croc hasn't soaked up enough sunlight to charge its battery yet, so it just has to sit there helplessly and watch its breakfast walk away.

Has something changed about the UQ Digital Workspace?

I tried to access it and apparently the link no longer functions/something has changed about the website that renders the link dead? I don’t see any new link so what’s going on with programs like Omnissa and that sort of thing? Does anyone know?

Help picking courses

Im doing a bach of sci but basically have no clue what im doing. Initially planned to major in biomed (didn't take bio in hs) and didn't take the hs introductory course and went straight into biol1020...But yeah i realised i hated bio and don't want to continue. I'm planning to change my degree (haven't decided on yet) so I'm aiming for courses that will give me a high GPA.

For reference I did methods, general eng, physics, chem, japanese and specialist (was very bad at this + despise math). So maybe a course that I could do without too much assumed general knowledge. I do like art but I can't really see any career for it.

Is it okay to attend lectures you’re not enrolled in?

I’m a student at UQ but have a couple fields outside my degree I would really love to attend lectures for every now and again without enrolling.

Is there a consensus on whether or not this is okay? I wouldn’t be disruptive of course and know most people wouldn’t ever even realise or care, but I don’t want to jeopardise my studies in any way if this isn’t allowed ☺️ Thanks!

Course Pages (Blackboard) Still Not Open

Hey all, has anyone got access to their course pages yet? I don't have access to any of them yet and with it being less than a week till week 1 starts it's weird. I did the online chat with uq and all they could tell me was that they should be opened a week in advance for students, but they can't tell me anymore. For reference, I'm doing a BA and psychology units.

Bad Grades in Engineering

Surely im not the only engineering student with bad grades. Half way through my second year my GPA is an astonishing 3.3 lol. Clearly I'm in desperate need for some change. Realistically, is there any chance of bringing this back? Any advice/tips. What can i do to turn this around and actually learn some real skills. has anyone actually done this before???

Routine for UQ?

Is there a way to make life at uni not feel so unfufilling? My plan was: go to classes -> study within gaps -> play video games and think about art -> sleep and repeat, but every single day last semester was meaningless. And I was told by a counseller that it's impossible to study 24/7. Also I have no friends if that helps.

What will be my GPA after I finish bachelor of psychological science honours?

Hi, I’m looking to apply for my masters in clinical psychology after I finish my course but I heard it’s really competitive and I need a good GPA for it. Currently I am sitting at a 5 after 1.5 years in and I was wondering how my honours gpa gets calculated into all of it? Like if I get a high distinction is that just a 7 that I add to all my other year end grades and average? Any advice would be appreciated.

WAITLISTED FOR SPEECH PATHOLOGY MASTERS

I'm an international applicant for the University of Queensland Master of Speech Pathology Studies.
I initially received a conditional offer, met all my conditions, and then was informed that the intake had reached capacity and I've now been placed on the waitlist.
I'm feeling pretty anxious and was wondering if anyone has actually received an offer from the waitlist for this program!

A few questions:
Has anyone been accepted from the UQ waitlist?

Around when did you hear back?

Do many people decline their offers or defer?

Is there realistically still hope, or should I start planning for the next intake?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, whether positive or negative. Thanks so much!

its going to be my second semester at this great university, and im glad to be given the opportunity to go here. but i'm scared that one day it'll all just stop. i'll wake up and it was all a dream, it sounds a cliche ending from grade 5 but. im really thankful to be able to be here today, given all the possibilities i've had to not live life on earth and start off the semester strong, see you all on market day. llama out 🦙
