META New post flairs!

For the longest time this subreddit was mostly film photos from cameras like the Holga and Diana. We've always allowed digital photos too, such as from the Gamyboy Camera or the Harinezumi for example.

Recently there have been a number of very popular digital cameras that have introduced people to the lofi aesthetic such as the many different thermal printer cameras, but also the Chuzhao and Kodak Charmera.

This is not bad, and they are welcome here! :)

But it can make it difficult to find specific types of content. This is where the post flair system comes in, since you can filter by these.

I have kept the flair system simple to begin with, we can add or change these if we need to, but let's start with the basic system and see how that goes.

I've added the following four post flairs, and made is so you have to select a flair when you post.

  • DIGITAL
  • FILM
  • DISCUSSION
  • META

DIGITAL

For photos and video taken with digital toy cameras. This includes thermal print cameras.

FILM

For photos taken with film toy cameras.

DISCUSSION

For posts that are talking about toy cameras, such as asking advice, troubleshooting, etc.

META

For posts about the subreddit. This shouldn't see much use, it wil mostly be used by the mods for posts like this one.

Thoughts, comments, and feedback below. I want to try to keep this as simple to use as possible, so if you want any extra post flairs created, there would have to be a very good reason.

Some photos are very good and sharp, while others are not sharp at all. Even those I took when the sun was at its brightest and highest point can be like this. Here are a few example photos of Charmera from my vacation a few days ago.

So I just bought an kodak charmera and a Gigastone 32 GB MicroSDHC card. My problem is that i cannot film with this sd card. It shows up on foto mode but in video mode there is always the error Low Storage Min. 1GB and I have already tried formatting the sd card on the camera and on another one. But it just doesnt work on the koda charmera in video mode. On the other camera it just works perfectly fine. Can somebody please help me?

DIGITAL Zoom lens/lens kit for charmera & other clones? (Future modding question)

Post image
61 Upvotes

I'd like to have a lens that I could zoom with the Charmera and the knockoffs I will be ordering on AliExpress.

I don't need anything extraordinary, I guess, but something I could zoom at least a bit. Or is it only possible with a telescope like lenses?

So, if you know any cheap lens kit or cheap lens that I can zoom with, please let me know. I am still a noob at photography in general, so I don't even know how to search for this. I'll be modding the Charmera and the clones eventually, but for now I ordered a cheap phone lens adaptor from AliExpress (that includes a fisheye and macro lens that we can clip directly, but apparently no zoom one).

Thank you!

Ps: also, do you have any recommendation/mod for black & white photography with these cheap cameras? Or even a cheap (less or around 50€) digital camera/toy camera that would take cool b&w photos? (No need to be as small as toy cameras, I wouldn't mind a normal sized digital one, as long as it can take cool b&w). Let me know!

DIGITAL Vivtar Snapshot Digital Keychain Camera from Target

Post image
9 Upvotes

Target has these little vivtar keychain cameras for $15. I wanted one to take silly little pictures for a music festival I'm going to. We were messing around with it trying to see how it works and whatnot. When trying to connect it to the computer to see the photos it just goes into "microphone mode" and thats it. According to the directions your just plug it in and your computer should recognize it as a flash drive type deal. It only recognizes it as a mic and thats it. Reading some of the reviews on the target app a lot of people have the same problem but some have been successful with connecting it to the computer. Theres an SD card in it but still its not connecting. I've tried multiple cables and laptops/computers and still nothing. Any help? Thanks.

DISCUSSION Is it possible to repair this?

I got this as a birthday gift earlier this year and unfortunately the screen didn’t survive a drop (I’m clumsy). It still powers on, but the screen doesn’t work because of this yellow cable breaking off. Based on some screens I grabbed, it looks like it should not be doing that.

I know I can try to buy a new one, but for sentimental reasons I’d like to try and get this fixed if possible. But is it possible?

Hey! First time poster here!

I've used no filters (or if i did it was high saturation one) and most of them probably suck as i have 0 photographic sense but it was fun using this little guy to take some pictures!

The pics are from a festival we do where i live thats kinda like a farmers market.

Let me know what yall think!

DISCUSSION I want to upgrade from Nikon d5200?

The reason why I want to sell it is the slow auto focus and because it's to big. So what other cameras do you guys recommend? Budget 350-400?

Some pics from today's Ironbirds game. They lost four to three but got robbed on a call at third. The Black Bears also have surprisingly good defense for a draft league level team. Those kids can field.

DISCUSSION Opening a Charmera shell safely (and not leaving marks)

Post image
15 Upvotes

Can someone that already opened their shell, show a video on how to do it safely? I can't find any video showing the process on this. I want open it and not risking snapping something, and not leaving a mark on the shell with a sharp object, but seeing someone doing it would actually help a lot!

Thanks!
