A special note on musings from Clarkson, Hammond and May

Couldn’t help but notice that there have been some comments on my recent posts here along the lines of “Please keep politics away from this subreddit!” (and those complaints sometimes result in deletion, thus depriving others to challenge or defend the hosts’ assertions). It’s unfortunate that I have to issue a disclaimer or two on this matter, but given the current hostile environment across Reddit and the internet in general, here goes:

“The views expressed in social media posts, videos and newspaper columns produced by or through direct quotes from news articles from Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and/or Richard Hammond (and others who worked on Top Gear and The Grand Tour) are solely their own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions and beliefs of the OP and this subreddit.”

As for the links that contain articles and columns that originate from The Sun and The Sunday Times, here’s the paywall disclaimer:

“Please note that depending on how and where you access this link, a strong paywall may appear. If so, what happens beyond that is up to you alone.”

Ok then, back to normal service…

Original TG episodes

All the TG episodes with the orangutan, slow and buttons in a Google drive. Last time I posted this it got deleted by mods and I got suspended for 2 days, so just DM me and I'll send it you. JC has said it was forums like this that contributed to the success of the show when it was brought back in 2002.

Gotta go on a trip like this with mates, but things never workout when they are planned thoroughly.

The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm executive producer paid another visit to the Essential F1 podcast to share his thoughts and analyses on the latest race that took place in Belgium. Mr. Wilman also had a story and some predictions ready for the upcoming race in Hungary this weekend… 😅

From video description: “Joining the show is legendary TV producer Andy Wilman #topgear #thegrandtour #clarksonsfarm with a fascinating story about one of the all-time greats, ‘el Maestro’, Fangio.”

The former script editor of Top Gear and The Grand Tour is going to Irvine, California next month with fellow motoring journalist Jonny Smith to conduct a live podcast recording. They will be collaborating with Matt Farah and Zach Klapman of The Smoking Tire for this event. For anyone interested, I have included the official link to obtain those tickets. Best of luck, and I’m hoping that some of us on the subreddit will be there! 🎟️

High pitched meme?

I remember coming across a clip where Hammond reverses into Jeremy and the audio has been altered to be squeaky high pitched and I can't find it for the life of me! Does anyone know what I'm on about?

About three years ago, I was introduced to Top Gear for the very first time when I saw this video.

From Top Gear to the Grand Tour, I've never stopped watching ever since. Probably the greatest car shows I've ever seen.

Top Gear [Video] Visiting a certain Alabama gas station 20 years later!⛽️

Instagram blogger Hold My Gear recently visited that infamous fueling station in Alabama where Top Gear had to flee for their lives. Yes, it still exists, and the blogger talked to an employee who was actually there when things went down! 😅😳

It's impressive what Hagerty is able to achieve in terms of cinematography & editing in their videos with their budget. I can't imagine what Grand Tour could achieve with amazon budget.

[Times column] Jeremy Clarkson: The reason I’m not nice like Jesus (or Gary Lineker)

Thumbnail thetimes.com

Remember Jeremy Clarkson’s cancer scare as documented in the latest season of “Clarkson’s Farm”? Well, he received a lot of well wishes from the public, and that made him reconsider how to live his life. Here’s a preview:

“So for the past few weeks, I’ve been wondering if maybe, at the age of 66, I should become an adult. A kind person, a tolerant person.”

(Beware of the paywall, and usual disclaimers apply.)

Is Hammond the only one to choose the same car for two specials?

He chose a Subaru Impreza for both the Nile and Scandi Flick, but I can't recall Jeremy or James doing the same.

[Opinion] Give the new Grand Tour hosts a chance to prove themselves!

Post image

I’ve noticed that other parts of Reddit are quite mad that Amazon decided to continue The Grand Tour with new hosts. For those of you who’ve been on this subreddit for a while, it’s a good reminder that they received the official blessing of Jeremy Clarkson to carry on the show.

Also, Executive Producer Andy Wilman is still working behind the scenes there (and so did script editor Richard Porter before he stepped away to fulfill other commitments), so the show is in good hands in my view. I can hardly wait to see what comes out of it!

The almost fanatical obsession with CHM following the announcement of the new season is weird

In light of the recent release of posters featuring the new Grand Tour presenters (James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, and Francis Bourgeois), I’ve seen social media explode overwrought, tired comments like:

“Didn’t you learn from the BBC?”

“You don’t get it, the old trio was what made it successful.”

“I could watch CHM present a show about paint drying and I’d still watch it.”

IMO these people are either hating for the sake of hating, or have an extremely poor understanding of the actual dynamics behind Top Gear/Grand Tour, and New Top Gear, and in doing so missing the point completely.

May and Hammond have said it themselves: media evolves. Most people forget that motoring shows before CHM Top Gear were dry, technical, and arguably quite boring. Wilman and Clarkson pioneered an exciting format that arguably set a template which most motoring media still follows today.

Automatically assuming that the new Grand Tour will follow the fate of new Top Gear is lazy and spiteful, not to mention that Wilman helped pick new trio. These people should be grateful that it ISN’T being handled in the way new Top Gear was handled.

Sorry for the rant, hope someone can at least relate to this!

[Sun column] Jeremy Clarkson: “Mum's brutal advice when I was bullied did trick - she'd sort snowflakes” ❄️

Thumbnail thesun.co.uk

Jeremy Clarkson remembered his mum’s advice that he received as a child and decided to make that the main focus in his Sun column. Here’s a preview:

“When I was a kid, I sobbed to her one night that everyone at school was bullying me and she replied: ‘Well, if everyone is bullying you, you must be doing something wrong.’

“Today, she’d be arrested for even thinking such a ridiculous thought. And so would all of the kids who’d been bullying me. And she’d be in jail with Sam Neill’s mother for mental health abuse in the community.

“But I wonder. Did our parents have the right idea? And have we now lost the plot?”

(Oh yes, usual disclaimers apply.)
