The David Pakman Show Gaza / Israel MEGATHREAD

Effective today, all posts and comments related to the Israel/Palestine conflict will be directed to this ongoing megathread. This applies to both article links and discussion submissions. Any new submissions on the subject will be removed and redirected to this megathread. This includes the nearly daily submissions asking "Why hasn't David talked about X" in relation to the conflict.

This conflict has been ongoing for nearly two years, and while we’ve allowed open discussion until now, the daily cycle of posts has come to dominate the space. Most users aren’t here for that constant back and forth, and over time it has continually crowded out other topics and made the community more hostile and unwelcoming than we would like.

After much consideration and discussion of community feedback, we’ve decided that consolidating all content into a megathread is the best balance. This is not an attempt to censor discussion. The goal is to make the topic easier to follow for those interested, while keeping the rest of the community accessible to those who are not. This effort will also make moderation more manageable and ensures a fairer space for all voices.

Please note that all subreddit rules still fully apply in this megathread. Please ensure that you are adhering to community rules while participating, specifically rule #1 (Please be civil and constructive at all times.) will be judiciously enforced. Please continue to use the report feature to bring rule violations to the attention of the mod team.

This thread will be stickied at the top of the subreddit for easy access. Comment sort order will be set to NEW so the latest contributions/news will always be on top.

Thanks for helping us keep the community constructive and manageable for everyone.

Opinion A Clarifying Statement on the College Democrats of America drama

For those unaware, over the weekend in Washington DC there were two events meant to be a rallying point for liberals. One of them was LibCon, the other, which may be more well-known because of drama is the College Democrats of America.

Destiny was invited to attend LibCon and speak and answer questions about the current direction of the democratic party and Gen-Z voters.

Hasan Piker was invited to the College Democrats of America to give a speech, and obviously as everyone was already in town, it seemed obvious that many of the people at LibCon would also migrate to the CDoA event.

The intention was not to cause disruption, DariusIRL and multiple others paid for tickets to the event to meet and talk to young voters as well as giving them a platform to speak their mind about current events. These interviews are available on his kick platform.

Given that Destiny is also well-know in the politics sphere it was his intention to do the same: speak to students and attend the Hasan Piker keynote in hopes that a Q&A would happen so that he could question his views on DSA.

This event was not for Hasan, this event was not ABOUT Hasan. He was scheduled for a speech and nothing more.

Upon hearing that people he deems "opposition" would be present at the event he decided to act like the entitled coward he is and have Destiny, Darius, and every single person associated with them hunted down and removed from the event.

They had already been there for several hours at this point without incident.

Hasan made the event about him. He is scared of having his views questioned. The speech he gave was weak-willed, feeble, and very obviously written by someone else (or AI). he has no heart and soul behind his position and is merely acting as a figurehead.

To underline what real Liberals do, here's a livestream where prominent political figures were interviewed:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9a4DXzryQ

While we are trying to bring down the right, it is important to turn within and ensure that our own party is towing the line. Allowing people like Hasan to run unchecked results in fringe movements like MAGA that will summarily destroy the party from within.

Feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, etc. We, unlike Hasan, are not afraid to stand up to scrutiny.

EDIT: Thank you to the mods for keeping this up and being vigilant and allowing me to clarify everything to the best of my ability. I have the best interests of everyone in mind. I appreciate it. Thank your neighborhood mod.

Discussion DSA and ideological purity tests are a dead end for democracy

like Pakman said, notwithstanding the areas that are good about the DSA platform, they suck. and yes another post about it.

DSA has some truly batshit and harmful foreign policy takes that tankies and bad faith actors love (i.e. dismantling USAID, weakening NATO, etc). Plus, Michigan DSA was involved with "Uncommitted". How'd that work out for Gaza?

But they recently racked up a couple of upset wins in deep blue areas and suddenly it's "the future"? Nah.

DSA has developed a tendency to eat it's own who fail to maintain ideological purity or ever moderate their positions a little.

For example,

the national DSA rescinded its endorsement of AOC for being insufficiently pro-Palestine. DSA released a statement on it:

AOC recently hosted a public panel with leaders from the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, lobbyists for the (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) definition of antisemitism,” the statement reads. “On this panel, she conflated anti-Zionism with antisemitism and condemned boycotting Zionist institutions. This sponsorship is a deep betrayal..."

what did AOC say?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) acknowledged in a webinar on Monday that there is a “line past which criticism of the Israeli government can slip into antisemitism” and said it’s incumbent on progressives to condemn such behavior, while also condemning instances in which “false accusations of antisemitism are weaponized.”

the NYC-DSA chapter is already turning on Mamdani over increasing the police headcount

DSA-LA censured mayoral candidate Nithya Raman for accepting an endorsement by Democrats for Israel

Like come on.

Keeping a democracy alive is a group project, unfortunately, and we are in a crisis. Then we have group members not pulling their weight and doing whatever the fuck that is. Do they even care about democracy? I don't think they do.

Like they love the increase in media attention and more dues paying members, but within their own ranks they don't even actually want a popular vote by all their members on policy platforms because the authoritarian left within DSA doesn't want it.

Opinion The DSA own policies don’t even make sense

Around 95% of the time when I see someone complaining about how both parties are terrible and that the democrats failed. Something I notice is that they don’t even have real policy solutions. It’s platitudes they heard from other people that makes them feel good or morally superior to say. Let me give you one example.

I saw something about west Virgina being terrible and the comments were like “The government and both parties failed the people of West Virginia”. When you see people write the proposed solutions. It’s not policy it’s platitudes or superficial talking points. “We need to massively invest in green energy in west Virgina and the government needs to massively invest in infrastructure.”

Life is not this simple that you just “just spend money DUH.” Tens of billions in new infrastructure, billions of dollars in training programs, new transmission lines, storage gap issues that can cause billions in lost revenue, upfront utility costs in the billions to cover the temporary lost of energy(this could literally cause huge economic issues before you ever see lost cost savings). You have the permitting trap of taking 10 to 16 years to even build new transmission lines, massive supply chain bottlenecks that you will also have to spend tens of billions in. Ooo did I say interest on the debt for all of this? By the way this is in west Virgina how cloudy is it their? How often does it rain? Maybe it’s windy in the hills and the mountains? Theirs no geothermal or hydropower that I know of. It’s a terrible state to invest in green energy in theirs other parts of the country that are 10 times better.

And that’s the main thing they don’t realize. They want “Afforable cheap clean energy.” But also want to spend it in the most inefficient ways possible, while defending these laws where it takes years to even get anything done. I’ve seen debates where these types are asked maybe we shouldn’t allow locals or environmentalists to block all of these things. And they can’t answer the question they just attack the other person for not standing with the people.

This is the problem with the DSA they are people who act like their experts in policy when they don’t even realize their own policy solutions is rheortic and platitudes they read online. If you see someone acting like are highly

Informed and politically correct in housing or infrastructure. Ask them basic questions like how much does it cost to build a 1800 square foot house in some certain city or area. Ask them how much would it cost per year to do this program you support? If they can’t even give you a true estimate anywhere in the ballpark they are not worth talking too. It just means like “the idea of the policy.” They aren’t actually serious about Putting it into place.

Discussion AOC: US-Israeli Military Integration Measure “Existential Threat” to Democracy

Upvotes

https://truthout.org/articles/aoc-us-israeli-military-integration-measure-existential-threat-to-democracy/

The measure, known as Section 219, is included in the Pentagon budget bill advancing through Congress.

The provision, if included in the final bill, would entrench Israel’s enmeshment with the U.S. military, mandating cooperation with regard to technology and intelligence with Israeli forces even when the U.S. gets little in return. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has advocated for the measure as public scrutiny over the U.S.’s monetary military aid to Israel has increased amid Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Mitch McConnell is literally stealing a Senate seat, just like he stole Obama’s Supreme Court seat. Even Republicans are getting impatient with the cover-up. It’s not just Beshear, either—Senate Democrats should at least feign a little outrage.
