Help TOS7 still not available on F8 SSD Plus

As the headline says - autoupdate days there are no updates, and there doesn't seem to be a download link for manual update on the website. Is it coming, or is the F8 already EOL ?

Help APCUPSD advice / best practices?

I have my F2-425+ connected to an APC XS 1500M UPS. In spite of this the TNAS unit crashes whenever there's a brownout or an instantaneous off/on/off/on in power in my locale. The powerblock instantly drains and before the UPS picks up and boom, the system has crashed.

I have now set up APCUPSD to see if network-based UPS works at all to resolve this deadly-to-spinning-disk abend/instant failure/crashing of this Terramaster unit.

I successfully set up APCUPSD on another (win11) box in my local network and then configured a docker from bnhf/apcupsd ( Scott Ueland (https://github.com/bnhf) ) - docker is connected and can send basic emails on shutdown/startup status.

  1. Are there any better APCUPSD dockers out there that support robust shutdown, emailing of status and any other I-didn't-even-know-I-needed-it features?

This one seems good but wondered if there are others out which are "great" ... is this the one?

  1. Anyone know if TOS7 is slated to have Network UPS client support ( Gemini seemed to think that TOS6 or earlier supported this natively once upon a time but now the only network option is to make TNAS the network *host* -- no network client support)

Help Adding disk to TRAID doesn't increase space?

I started with a TRAID with 3 disks, 1TB+1TB+0.5TB. It was showing 1.34TB in the TRAID which seems about right (1.5TB usable + 1.0TB redundant)/1.1.

Then I added a 3rd 1TB drive and the usable space is still 1.34TB!! Why? I expected it to increase to something like 2TB at least.

Wouldn't you expect it to at least increase a little? 1.34TB is only 42% of the total disk space 1.34 / (3.5/1.1). What should I do?

p.s. I think the TRAID calculator is plain wrong and don't trust it. It suggests I should have 2.5TB... I wish!

UPDATE: I got it to work! In case someone else runs into this problem and sees this post I thought I'd share what I did.

My system disk was set to live on the smaller (SSD) disk on the theory that the SSD would be faster. But I suspected the TRAID was confused by the oddly sized disk. So here's what I did:

  • moved the system to one of the bigger HDD disks
  • rebooted, still no change in the pool size
  • decided to "replace" the smaller disk with itself in hopes it would resize
  • the instructions said to just take out the disk you want to replace so I yanked it out, then the NAS started beeping with no clear instructions on what to do next. So I put it back in and rebooted
  • DISASTER!? the machine wouldn't boot back up. I was very sad but I tried rebooting with the "replacement" disk out of the NAS. Then, thankfully, it booted up and was beeping. This time I was happy to hear that beep because it meant my NAS wasn't dead.
  • Then I re-inserted the SSD disk and the pool gladly welcomed it back into the family and resized the pool! It's a miracle!
  • Now the storage pool size has increased from 1.34TB to 1.79TB, an increase of 650GB.
  • Again, the TRAID calculator doesn't match reality. It says (image below) that TRAID should provide about 2.51TB but it's closer to the RAID5 number of 1.54TB. But at this point I'm not complaining because I have more storage than before which was the main goal.

Purchasing Help Casa OS or any other distro on F4-425 plus (N150)

Hi

Currently I am running a casa os home lab on a zimaboard. It hosts all my photos in Immich while running some other apps like a DB, next cloud, some note apps along with some tools apps. Sometimes this setup feels slow and 8gb ram peaks at times when immich doing some imports or when i am trying to run 20+ apps.

I have backups in an external hdd for much of the stuffs and also planning to duplicate the current hdd to another one using the zimaboard itself. Meaning novice to the whole nas thought process of a nas. Always feel i am throwing away hdd space 🤣

Now i have become quite comfortable with casaos and its drawbacks and I am a bit scared to move my immich setup to another os/nas.

So my question would be is anyone running any other os on Terra master nas?

If so then what are you running and how is it.

Any other suggestions or comments are welcome.

Thank you 😊

Help Terramaster just doesn't work with UPS for failover?

I have a new F2-425+. It has 2x10TB WD in which are also new.

I have an APC BackUPS1500 which only has the Terramaster on it.

Prior to TOS7 any brownout caused the known issue with kernel panic and TOS6 would just down the machine-- no shutdown, no logs... just *off*.

With TOS7, this has gotten better for that situation.

**BUT** today we had a lightning strike somewhere not too far from my house and the whole house powered off for an instant and then came back on again. Terramaster? Belly up -- watched the lights go off on the F2-425+ ...even as I heard the UPS click over to battery and then full power came back to UPS.

I never had this problem in 7 years of a 2 bay QNAP ( I bought a new QNAP 4 Bay before this TM but it was of such poor construction and it had an OS glitch where the memory coud not be upgraded -- wasn't waiting around for a fix so I bought a TM) .

Has anyone cracked the code on this issue? It just seems ludicrous to have a megasized UPS and this ittybitty NAS with 2 drives but it can't handle this frequently encountered real world issue.

Sick of the crashing. Drives are going to give out at some point..

Discussion F4-424 vs F4-425 Pro Heat/Fan

Was doing an upgrade from a F4-424 vs F4-425 Pro and wanted to know if anyone else sees a drastic uptick in temps on the nvme and the fan working much harder/louder vs the older F4-424?

I know its a much higher performing cpu but I was surprised on the nvme uptick in temps.

I basically fork lifted everything over so I was not expecting a near 15C+ in nvme temps. I'm now having to look into active cooling on the drives if I end up keeping this new NAS.

Help What's your opinion on Terramaster's TOS7 Docker Manager?

I'm curious what your experience is with their app. Have you had much luck using it? Pro/cons? Tried it but prefer docker compose, or another app?

I recently got a f4-425 plus and set up jellyfin. Wanted it up an running quickly so I used their native app version, as I have minimal experience using commands. It works great so far. But I've got a free weekend coming up and wanted to setup arr stack. This will require setting up containers. I've had a look at the Docker Manager app briefly and had a few questions.

Sorry in advance for the noob questions. Bear with me. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. And I am open to any advice you might also have.

  1. I noticed you can set persistent storage during setup under volume storage, which also allows the container access to the folder. In my setup, I've got all the apps, metadata, configuration, cache, etc. Set to my SSD, and all my media on HDD.

Can I set persistent folder to my SSD location and only have access media without creating another persistent folder in my HDD? Or is this something I would add in the environment variables section?

  1. Are there options missing in the app, that i will need in order to setup arr stack, or is the app designed with all options available?

  2. If i need to use docker compose, how would i access it? Through the nas terminal or the terminal attached to the container? I tried using the nas terminal to run some simple commands but kept getting either permission denied errors, or unable to perform command errors. Do I need to install/update something to get it to work?

Help | Solved! T6-423, Hyper-cache not deleting...

As the title says, I am attempting to revise the HC configuration that is used on Vol1.

This is also the system volume, RAID1.

Initial problem was the Vol1 was not unmounting at shutdown causing 8 hr resync each time it restated. The R/W HC was the main suspect but I can't get it to stop being used so I can set it up as Read ahead only. Stopped what I thought was everything, then deleted the HC .

I have stopped as many services as I can but not it just says "Deleting..." for several days and restarts.

The only error on shutdown is the lack of unmounting vol1.

CLI is probably the only way but I haven't found a thread in support for manually stopping everything.

Trying not to lose both volumes I have.

TIA

Help S3 on TOS

Is anyone using any solution to provide an S3-like in TOS?
I think this is the biggest feature it lacks. I’m trying to estudo some backup tools that can send data to a limited options of backend and S3 seems to be the more convenient protocol, but TOS does not have support natively and neither via extra apps. I can install something via docker but it will be awesome if the TOS has the protocol instead of WebDAV for example, or in addition to other protocols.

Help F2-221 NAS Extremely Slow

I need some help and hoping someone can figure this out. Its been going on for about a year now and i've just not messed with it, just haven't had the time.

I have a F2-221 NAS, it's running 5.1.67-00214. It currently has 2 14TB drives and a TerraMaster External 4 Drive USB enclosure with 4 14TB drives running RAID5.

It’s always showing that it's running smoothly with CPU at 60% at its highest, load at 23%, Memory at 20% and "/" at 83.6%.

My network has almost no latency (0.2ms) because it's hardwired gigabit from my PC to the NAS.

Device temp is 41C, CPU is 44C, Hard Drives 43C and Fans running at 1804RPM's. Upstream runs at about 2.5MB/s and Downstream at about 1.2MBps.

Every time I try to transfer data, it's extremely slow. a few gigabytes takes hours to transfer. I need some help trying to find out why my NAS is transferring so slowly even though the network has no latency.

Also seems that the deeper into the file tree I go, the slower things get. I recently had some photos (about 200gigs) that I needed to transfer into /folder/folder/folder and it took 2 days to transfer 200gigs. That's completely unacceptable.

Also, this is being transferred via SMB. I do have NFS turned on but have not done any testing on it.

Appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Update: When I transfer via NFS from a windows machine, I get 86Mbps and a 1.1gb file takes about 30 seconds. Could this be SMB? I've just started using it because i'm on a MAC and got warnings since i've updated the OS that I had to start using it.

Help TOS7 VMs private network not working?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to build a small homelab on my TerraMaster NAS using the new VMs application in TOS 7.

I think I've narrowed down what might be a bug in the Private Network implementation, but I'd like to know if someone else can reproduce this before I open a support ticket.

Environment

  • TerraMaster NAS
  • TOS 7
  • VMs application
  • Open vSwitch enabled
  • VirtualBox completely removed
  • VMs app reinstalled
  • NAS rebooted
  • Brand new Private Network created

Test setup

I wanted to isolate the problem from pfSense, so I removed it from the equation completely.

I created two fresh Xubuntu Live VMs.

Both VMs are connected to the same Private Network.

VM1:

VM2:

No gateway configured (not needed for same subnet).

Expected

The VMs should ARP each other and be able to ping directly.

Actual result

  • Both interfaces are UP.
  • Link detected = yes.
  • Static IPs are configured correctly.
  • ping 10.0.0.12 returns Destination Host Unreachable.
  • tcpdump on the second VM never sees any ARP requests.
  • ip neigh ends up with FAILED/INCOMPLETE entries.

This makes it look like Ethernet broadcasts are never forwarded between ports on the Private Network.

What I've already tried

  • Removed VirtualBox
  • Removed VMs application
  • Disabled Open vSwitch
  • Rebooted NAS
  • Enabled Open vSwitch again
  • Reinstalled VMs
  • Created a completely new Private Network
  • Created fresh VMs booting directly from the Xubuntu ISO
  • Tested with static IPs (so DHCP and pfSense are not involved)

At this point it feels like the Private Network itself is not forwarding Layer 2 traffic.

Has anyone else seen this or can someone try creating two Linux VMs on the same Private Network and see if they can ping each other?

Somehow my NAS gone corrupted that it is not booting.

It shows below UEFI option (screenshot-1) and move to next screen (screenshot-2).

Screenshot-1
Screenshot-2

I tried to build the new USB drive with new image but somehow when I connect the USB to the External USB port it does not pick up.

I have tried to change the Boot order from BIOS but still it does not save the BIOS settings but exit without saving.

It is continuously rebooting after screenshot-1 -> screenshot-2. It gives only one beep when reboot starts.

Any suggestion/help would be appreciated!

Help | Solved! F4-425 single digit MB/s transferring files to NAS

I bought an F4-425 in the recent Prime Day "sale", but I'm thinking I've bought a turkey.

Transferring files from a USB drive plugged into the NAS has transfer speeds in the single digits, and that's trying different drives (NTFS and exFat) and all of the USB ports on the NAS.

Plugging the NAS directly into a laptop with a 1Gbit ethernet link and transferring the files from the USB drives to the NAS results in the same single digit speeds, with the transfer speed going up for a few seconds and then dropping to zero for about 20 seconds. Transferring files from the laptop itself has the same result.

Files transfer from the NAS to the laptop at about 80MB/s with no issues.

I've spent two days trying various things prompted through the Google AI search function, and I'm on the verge of returning the damn thing and just buying a 7 port USB hub instead.

Any help would be welcomed.

Edit to add: the dashboard always seems to show the NAS as Slow or Sluggish at 100% load even when doing nothing, with the CPU usage below 2% and memory use never going above 20%.

Help F2-424 TOS alternatives

Hello

I feel I am not in control of my system. I've been semipro sysadmin in my past life (centos5, slack8, some debian and the Ubuntu) now I am less updated and need some help.

I'd love to at least decide where to install the OS, my TOS6 went on both the first NVMe and the first volume, causing hibernation issues.

I am looking for solid alternatives that I can setup without losing the data on the Volume or, if appropriate, advice on resetting it to TOS6 or maybe 7 to get rid of the issue.

I have a 4TB disk on Vol1 and 1TB on Vol2.

I have < 1TB data so far, so my plan was to rsync 1 to 2, just in case (first rule: be paranoid), then remove drives and reinstall from scratch.

My concern is: how easy it is to recover data from disks with another OS if I switch? They use BTRFS.

Help How to change /homes folder directory in TOS7

Hey guys! Kinda new here, I'm experimenting a little bit with TOS 7 and my new F4-425 Pro (N305).

So here's my situation:

I've got 2 volumes

1) SSD for OS, Docker, cache and app data

2) HDD for general storage (TRAID with redundancy)

My first assumption was naturally to install TOS on the SSD.

So I did that and then spent a couple of days configuring my Docker Compose for everything I need.

Then I decided to create a bunch of users for my family, and only at that point I realized that all the home directories were created on the SSD.

Now, of course, I'd like to have those on the HDD instead, but I can't find a "compliant" way to achieve that with TOS 7.

Am I being a noob, or is there really no way to do that?

[Edit] typo in device name

Help DNS lookup spam

I updated to TOS7 and noticed that its making DNS lookups every 15 seconds for baidu, google, and cloudflare. I assume its some sort of "online check". Is there any way to tweak this or turn it off?

I rely on a wireguard VPN on my router if I want to access anything in my LAN, and the NAS is firewalled off from any internet access so this is not needed.

Help Syncing office folder to TM Home NAS.

First of all I'm new to NAS. I've recently bought a TM F4-425 and set it up with the help of the threads here. Now I have a folder in my work laptop (Of course managed by IT dept) . This folder is my reference folder which I keep on adding the stuffs I find during my work.

I want to sync this to my Home NAS. How can I do it? Is there a simplified way without getting the IT Dept involved?
