[Self] Federal money being sent to dead people Spoiler

Saw this headline, read the article, did the math.

https://thenationaldesk.com/news/americas-news-now/treasurys-anti-fraud-anti-waste-efforts-flag-99m-in-payments-headed-to-dead-people

4,900 payments out of a set of 885,000,000,000 (885 billion) transactions examined is

--> 0.00000055% (55 hundred-millionths of a percent) of the total transactions. (I think I converted that number to words correctly - open to correction.)

The value of these transactions was:

$99,000,000 (ninety-nine million dollars) Heck, that's a lot of money!

The value of all the 885 billion transactions in the data set was:

$2,700,000,000,000 (two point seven trillion dollars) That is an inconceivable amount of money.

--> the $99M represents 0.00367% (367 hundred thousandths of a percent) of the total amount under consideration.

1) The money did not actually get delivered to dead people - the transactions were bounced back to the issuing agencies before this 'investigation' was done. Article title says "..headed for dead people."

2) The error rate is amazingly low. I would be proud of that "lack of error" rate.

3) Trillions of dollars is so massive that $99M is a miniscule rounding error.

4) Looking for fraud, waste and abuse is a good thing to do. They did not find it here.

5) Maybe go look at some "no bid" contracts. Might be something going on there...

[Self] Which is better for home defense, a wooden bat or an aluminum bat?

An aluminum bat I know is lighter but also can crush home runs in college baseball. Hence the wooden bats for mlb I think is more difficult to hit home runs but heavier. Assuming no corking and a cardinal wooden bat, which would create the most damage wielded by an average person (also assuming optimal hits, similar to HR)

My first thought was at the halfway point between the outer layer and the core, but the further out, the more length is in each layer. I would guess that it is closer to the outer layer but i have no idea how to even start creating some sort of formula.

[Request] What are the chance of a random sexual encounter resulting in a pregnancy?

So, some context.

Over the weekend, I attended a LARP (Live-action Roleplay). During the LARP, two friends of mine decided that their characters had a little tumble in the hay. Their characters had never met before. After the LARP finished, they rolled a dice to see if the woman became pregnant, and she did. I think they simply rolled a D6 and decided that a "6" meant she got pregnant.

However, it got me thinking on what the, so to speak, actual odds would be?

Assuming:
* both people involved are of average fertility, in good health and, pardon the expression, of child-rearing age
* It is a chance encounter, a one-night-stand, meaning the woman can be in any part of her cycle.

So, what are the odds of a random one-night-stand between two people with the requisite parts resulting in a pregnancy?

[Request] Power of 4th of July fireworks

Upvotes

If you took all of the fireworks released in the United States on the 4th of July. These include all of the major events in your local cities as well as the ones released by individuals, how much fire power would it be?

Would it be comparable to a single large bomb? A small nuke?

Curious how many kilo tons of TNT it would equate to.
