discussion πŸ—£ Would it be useful a Synth Lead preset that switches between 2 sounds, to make changes on the fly when playing live?

β€’ Upvotes

A little for fun, a little not, I came up the idea of a synth lead, but it has 2 sounds. By turning a Macro, you can switch from one kind of lead (e.g. a stutter melodic techno lead) to a to pretty different one (e.g. straight sawwave lead or a pluck... )

Would any of you use something like that?

On a live performance it may get handy to have a quick sound change, while in Studio it spares you a track...keeping the same FX chain...

...or maybe 'call and response' melodies... ?

Did anybody try or made something like this before?

request ❓ 2hollis - '3': aggressive repeating pluck/bass sound in the drop

How can I recreate the repeating hard pluck/bass sound that starts at 0:29 in 2hollis - '3'? Im not sure if its a bass or a synth pluck, but its the loud 'da da da da' sound in the background of the drop.

Does anyone know what type of synth/patch this is or how it was made?

Sound design help

Hey guys I’m new to producing and EDM and I just wanted to see if anyone could help me figure out where to start on making leads and sounds like these. I’m not even sure where to start or whether to use serum and sound design or just use plugins on a single sound. If anyone could help or point me in the direction of some packs with sounds like this etc. would be a lot of help.

The very first bass patch in the intro. It sounds like a sampled synth and I kinda have no idea how to recreate it or where’s it’s from. Could it be from the M1? Definitely a 90s synth. https://open.spotify.com/track/0kl6Ozan3fuUdCl6TlB15v?si=2zpLAKj8SnesLlBsQoSQtA&utm_source=copy-link

discussion πŸ—£ What do you call a vocal effect where two female voices spin vertically in tight, opposing loops directly over each ear hole, like four tiny fairies flying in vertical circles right at your eardrums?

What do you call a vocal effect where two female voices spin vertically in tight, opposing loops directly over each ear hole, like four tiny fairies flying in vertical circles right at your eardrums? I am not sure this was done before? I couldn't find any song that does this.

request ❓ Shjva – "Upper Limit": monolithic arp

Thumbnail
youtube.com
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to reverse-engineer an arpeggiated synth sound and I'm stuck on how it's actually put together.

The reference is Shjva's "Upper Limit". There's an arp running through the track and to my ears it sounds like several layers fused into one: a bass layer, a mid synth carrying most of the movement, and at points some resonant high-end elements fading in and out on top. The striking part is how monolithic it is, everything reads as a single voice rather than separate stacked sounds.

The reference is Shjva's "Upper Limit". There's an arp running through the track (timestamp of the start from 0:20 but you can hear it better from 1:10) and to my ears it sounds like several layers fused into one...

What I'm trying to understand:

  • Is this more likely one patch (wide/unison with a resonant filter) or genuinely layered bass + mid + top, glued together afterward?
  • How do you get that "one sound" cohesion when stacking? Shared filter/saturation/bus processing, or is it mostly in how it's sequenced?
  • The resonant top elements that appear and disappear, is that a resonant filter being swept while the arp plays, or a separate layer riding on top?

I'm attaching the full track for reference, plus a short clip(below) I cut in Ableton isolating the arp so you can hear it more clearly.

Any pointers on direction and what to reach for would be hugely appreciated.

I've heard this sound in a few bands, specifically in psychedelic genre. Is this some synthetizer specifically? How can I replicate this sound in Serum 2 or some other VST? I've tried to achieve the sound, but I'm still learning sound designs.

The sound begins at 07:03 of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlYmw4AuJiI

For months, I've been trying to recreate the synth sound on I Can't Help It starting at 0:10 and from 0:20 to 0:39. I have a Nord Stage 4 that I have been trying to recreate it on, but I am not good with the synth settings or how to make anything sound like the recording. Does anyone have info on how I can work towards getting a sound that is the same/similar?

This is a ~40 second interlude from the new Loathe album, A Stranger To You. There is this super weird synth going through the whole thing, and I am just curious how you think they did it?

Here is the link, no time stamp because it’s the only synth thing going throughout the entire song!

Thank you wise synth masters!
