Hi,

I'm having trouble using Lawful Blade. I downloaded both v102 and v103 from the GitHub Releases page, but both versions crash. The behavior is slightly different between the two versions.

Environment

• Windows 11 Home 25H2 (Build 26200.8875)
• Lawful Blade v102 and v103 downloaded from GitHub Releases
• Extracted to C:\LawfulBlade
• Original Sword of Moonlight (SoM2k) from the official CD (copied from another PC to my current PC)
• The issue occurs every time.

Version 102

• I can create a new Instance without any problems.
• However, when I click + Create New Project, Lawful Blade immediately closes.
• No error message is displayed.

Version 103

• I can create both a new Instance and a new Project.
• However, when I try to open the Project, Lawful Blade immediately closes.
• No error message is displayed.

I also noticed another issue in v103:

• In Project Settings, the Runtime field is blank.
• The dropdown menu shows SoM2k Runtime and SoM EX Runtime.
• I can select either one, but after closing and reopening Project Settings, the Runtime field is blank again.
• In other words, the Runtime setting is never saved.

One thing that may be relevant is that, during Instance creation, the Core field already shows "Sword of Moonlight: King's Field Making Tool", so it appears that Lawful Blade detects my original SoM installation correctly. However, the Runtime setting is still not saved.

Has anyone experienced this issue before?

Is this a known bug, or is there something wrong with my setup?

When I go to test map I cannot move or look around. Enemies do not notice me although I am there as they can bump into me. Have I just missed something obvious? No button on my keyboard seems to do anything when testing. I've given the test mode player gear and HP and placed them in a suitable location.
Secondary issue I'm having which might be related is I can't generate a runtime. Gives me the error message "MAIN101 The System cannot find the specified file". I'm selecting the .som file located in my appdatas LawfulBlade project folder which I'm imagining is the project source.

Microsoft Defender immediately quarantined the installer for Lawful Blade V103 as containing  Trojan:Win32/Yomal!rfn when I tried to unzip the package for Lawful Blade from Github. Is this nothing? Do I have a problem now? Has this happened to anyone else?

Downloaded the SoM Game launcher on the google drive link from the main website. Added three game folders I got from the website and the launcher starts and recognizes them, allowing me to change settings if I want, and then won't actually launch the game.

So, when I go to launch the games I get a large error message box saying:

Sword_Master.Program was canceled by the user at system.diagnostics.process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startinfo)

then goes on and on...

I've tried using all three graphics choices(directX,DDraw, and DFVoodoo), but get the same error message. The resolution choice doesn't matter(even tried launching with a new downloaded folder and not changing a single setting)

Any ideas what's going on? I've also tried deleting the folder and downloading the launcher again and pasting the games in the new launcher folders.

Hello! I'm trying to play Diadem of Maunstraut on Sword Master, and the game produces no audio despite having tested multiple outputs. Also tried running the standalone exe, still nothing. Is there any fix for this?

Sword Master, the Launcher for Sword of Moonlight games, has been updated to 1.1. New features and fixes, as well as retroactively fixing old Sword of Moonlight bug when you first play games through it!

Game Hosting Cleanup
Games hosted on our site have had a number of fixes applied. Games that came bundled with custom icons that weren't applied, now have that icon applied to the executable. Missing textures in Grand Croce have been recovered and restored. Errant save files have been removed, and naming conventions have been more standardized to make Sword Master a cleaner experience.

Moratheia Version 2.1c
Kurobake has recovered a slightly later version of Moratheia (2.1c) than what is currently hosted. Many of the bugs that are fixed through Sword Master have been pre-applied in our hosted version. Gone are the days of Moratheia's reputation for crashes!

I’ve been tinkering with Sword of Moonlight (with Lawful Blade) for about a week now, and while it’s been a fun journey, I don’t think I will take it much further.

So, I’m sharing the .som file of what I managed to put together:

There’s not much to it, but here’s what I was able to build:

• An empty fraction of a map (try not to fall off the edges!).
• A very tiny cave (with the start of a larger one)
• A cramped dungeon-like indoor area (with a possible boss arena)
• A tall, hub-like structure that looks large from the outside but is tiny on the inside
• A ruined house-like structure
• Ramps, steps, and those square tower pieces everywhere

I also placed a few objects, like rocks, a bed, a skeleton corpse, and a bunch of bridge pieces. That was very laborious. I really don't think I was doing that the right way.

I enjoyed the process and it certainly increased my appreciation for this community and everyone involved in keeping this tool functional, accessible, and documented.

I hope this contributes anything at all, at the very least it should be a good example on how NOT to do stuff on SoM.

Hi, everyone. Today I found out that SwordofMoonlight passed away some time in December last year.

I learned about King's Field through Majuular on YouTube. It got me very interested, as it seemed like the perfect game for me, exactly what type of games I enjoy, that being exploration. A rabbit hole later, I come across swordofmoonlight.net. I thought it was so cool that this person had so much effort in improving such an old game engine. I read through a lot of their posts on that website, and wanted to hear more about this dedication and love for this engine. I wanted to gush about the games, myself, to someone who could gush back. So I thought I'd reach out to them here on Reddit. I've left to be on Lemmy since the whole API fiasco, but I have came back here to see if they messaged me back. They did, and I was so excited to hear back from them. I messaged back in May 16th of this year. I recently got back on here to see if they had reached out yet. When I clicked on this subreddit, I had no idea.

I just felt like I could at least say thank you here, for their work on Sword of Moonlight, and all they accomplished on the engine since they started in what, 2011 or so? Just absolutely amazing, truly.

It is so good to see others continuing off on the project, and I hope it can continue to gain more popularity. Thank you for reading this, and have a good rest of your day.

Save your Sword of Moonlight games in its folder and they will all be accessible in one place.

The launcher features include compatibility fixes, settings, controller, and keyboard bindings! Use the game's recommended settings, or customize and set your own favorite as default! No more messing with DGVoodoo2 or DDraw - these wrappers will be applied by the launcher for you.

Launcher is currently not compatible with SomEX games or Reign, and bypasses Steam features for Tears of the Moon and Hope Deferred.

Deep Under EX is a little-known WIP remake of the (still lost!) Japanese game, Deep Under. Its environments and maps are designed to emulate Shadow Tower.

When I first brought it to the community's attention, the following Sword of Moonlight games had no available downloads on the internet:

• Deep Under (JP)
• Neo Under (JP)
• King's Field: Immortality of Time (JP)
• Battle for the Inn

I'm pleased to announce that Neo Under, Battle for the Inn, and King's Field: Immortality of Time have all been recovered and are now available for download on the https://www.swordofmoonlight.com site. Unfortunately it seems like Neo Under was the only fully finished game of these, but these pieces of history are now available and preserved.

The remaining lost games are:

• Deep Under (JP): This game had an available download at some point on the creator's site, but no known archives exist and even the old Japanese SoM wiki seemed to not have it available. Some digging on the creator's site also reveals that a demo of a remake titled Deep Under EX was also available for a brief period of time. It's unlikely any users outside of Japan would have this game.
• Shadow Tower (SoM): This is a JC Bailey game that was cancelled. There was a playable build. If you were in contact with JC Bailey (MasterTaffer) between 2014-2016, and he gave you a playable build, you're our only hope.
• King's Field V: Another JC Bailey (MasterTaffer) game. Same applies as above.
• Curse of the Pharaohs: A game by user Xtremez. Unless he gave you a copy of his project, this one is gone for good.

Our chances of finding these remaining games are even more slim, but the community has done such a great job at recovering other games when it seemed hopeless. Thanks all.

Hey guys, I have a bit of a weird and totally random question not at all related to something I'm working on. But if someone were to release a sample CD containing ambience, tracks, SFX, and all that jazz inspired by the SoM Asthetic, would you want them in

1. Standard (Modern day) Quality,

2. Period accurate Quality,

3. Both

I'm intending to start building a game using Sword of Moonlight but after downloading Lawful Blade and setting up a instance and project, all of my text looks like what is visible in the screenshots presented here.

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? I've seen screenshots of this engine running in English so I imagine I have installed the program incorrectly. I installed from this link and I am pretty sure I stopped windows defender from overreacting to this program.

In the west, Battle for the Inn is also still missing.

But how do I run SoM? I can't tell if I'm missing an .exe file or somethin, but yeh I can't figure out how to run it. If you read all this stupid ass shit thank you. and if you have any suggestions thank you thank you.

So I've been chipping away at trying to make item compendiums for the KF games and since Lunacid TotM had just come out I decided I'd take a crack at SoM games too. A hurdle with this is trying to get decent images of said items. Taking in-game screenshots has issues since UI gets in the way. When trying to dig through old forums posts I was able to find a viewer for .MDL files, but nothing for .MDOs. I could just be stupid and or blind but that's why I'm asking lol

So is there a tool to preview .MDO files, or at least convert them into something Blender could open? I just want to be able to take clean screenshots for guides

The shared passion and contributions have turned this ancient piece of software into the centerpiece for one of the largest King's Field communities around. When Mark Johnson of Agetec declared King's Field dead in 2006, the King's Field community unearthed this toolset from 2000 and translated it into English. It is YOU who have kept the spirit of King's Field alive!

In this past year, we've seen the https://www.swordofmoonlight.com/ site restored to its former glory, along with its wiki. The forum has returned as well, more secure than ever. Two SoM games were released in 2024. We've seen a mouse injector compatible with SoM games. u/tsBattenberg has released a package manager for SoM, Lawful Blade. This allows multiple instances of SoM to be installed on the same computer, allowing for SomEx support. While we mourn the loss of Michael, the community shall be fractured no longer!
