Meta Crashes and Issues? Please post logs!

Theres a wicked guide here for getting logs for In-Home Streaming which applies to the Steam Link.

Please, please, please when posting asking for help with crashes, lag or debugging issues provide logs!

There's not a lot anyone can do in most cases unless we can actually see what's happening, and quite possibly help you out a lot quicker!

You can paste your logs up to Paste2 so it doesn't bulk things down or use the spoiler tags.

Please provide as much info as possible, anything that can help us help you.

Support Using Remote Play on the Plane?

I’m going on a 10 hour flight this weekend from Asia to NA. I was going to buy some games for my iPad but I hate the thought that I can’t combine my Steam library with the App Store. I usually play turn based games and board games so high latency isn’t a big deal (although at a certain point it would be annoying). Would remote play be viable using the plane’s WiFi? I’d keep my PC on at home.

Support No controllers will register any input in any game, but they are recognized in menu and in the game's setup

Beyond frustrated because this was working fine two days ago and I've changed nothing. Trying to connected my PC to my ONN steam link app with a registered Good connection tonight and the game loaded up fine, but none of the inputs worked. I tried restarting steam, restarting my computer, tried enabling then disabling steam inputs on the controller menu in that specific game, tried 3 different games, no dice. Has anyone else run into this and fixed it?

Question Streaming to a ThinkPad T470?

I am just starting to look into game streaming and am trying to decide what device to use, but before I bite the bullet on a ~$200 device I was thinking about replacing the shattered screen (~$50) on an old Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (2017 I think?) but I really don't know enough about hardware/mini PCs etc. does anybody have an idea on how well it would handle the latency and general performance? and is Moonlight still the most consistent client to use or should I stick with official steam methods?

I'll be hosting from a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop and have a Google fiber wifi 6 router if that matters for anything. I would like to do wireless but I am willing to use ethernet, just will have to set up a way to run it across a large room that my wife won't hate.

Discussion Steamlink with onscreen buttons or controller?

Hi everyone, i wanted to understand form people that actually spend time with steamlink, how do you actually play your games? How many people use the onscreen controls, does it give you the experience that you want? and how many of you use a telescopic controller?

If you use the onscreen buttons, what limits do you face? what games do you play? which do you not play?..and any suggestions?

TIA

Question Steam link through wifi antenna?

I use steam link for steam vr sometimes when I cant be bothered with the cable. I could be wrong on this and if I am correct me/inform me, but would it not be possible to have steam link emit through my wifi antenna to my headset since im using ethernet? Ive used the hotspot mode on my pc for better connection and figured that it would be possible to do that with steam link. From what it seems it just goes to the router which is a little far so the connection isnt too good. But Ive also noticed that the hotspot mode gets disabled when I use steam link so idk.

If this is already the case or there is a setting or some configuration I can do please let me know, thatd be amazing.

Baffling controller issues

So I've been trying to get game streaming working, and I'm having some baffling issues with my controller.

So I'm trying to stream my PC to my phone, and everything is working flawlessly when I'm at home. Not on wifi, mind you. Still on cell data.

But when I'm away from home, the controller only works with steam itself, but stops working entirely in-game. The game is acting like the controller isn't even there.

It's not steam input. Everything is set up correctly.

The controller will bring up the steam overlay just fine. It works in steam big picture just fine.

But once I actually open the game, the game is doing nothing, but only when I'm not actually at home. It works perfectly at home. and I know it's not connect directly to my PC, because I have Bluetooth on the PC turned off completely.

This has been the behavior with both Moonlight/Sunshine and Steam Link.

I have no clue what could be causing this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Support onscreen buttons suddenly scaled

i am using steam link app on ipad for streaming my games. everything worked for a couple of years but now all of a sudden my onscreen buttons are much bigger.
Even my templates suddenly load the buttons scaled. its like the onscreen buttons get the wrong resolution or calculating the dpi wrong. changing all sort of resolutions in the steam display settings and remote play settings only effects the actual screen, the onscreen buttons still are huge.

its probably because of an update but i do not know how to fix it. someone any idea how i can fix this?

(sorry for bad english, its not my mother tongue.)

Support In Home Streaming No Game Sound

Using steam remote play has inconsistent results for me on audio today. I was using the game Routine, streaming from PC to deck and audio didn't come through. I changed it to play audio on host, then it started working.

After a game restart, it wasn't working anymore. No matter what that setting is on, now the game audio doesn't make it.

Weirdly, everything else on the computer does make it through the stream -- discord notifications, random YouTube video. I checked volume mixer, the game was on steam streaming speakers, same as every other app that could make noise. Is this familiar to anyone? I'm not sure what else to check or change. Google showed lots of issues 2 years ago, but not with only the game failing.

Question How do I middle click when using touch only mouse controls?

I use touch or trackpad which work fine, a two finger press is right click but 3 fingers opens the keyboard and 4 the menu. I’m trying to play Baldur’s gate via my iPad and it works great but I can’t middle click to rotate the camera

Is there a way to configure this or at least have a separate key on the screen specifically to hold when I want middle click to be held? Thank you

Steam Link on Android has constant stutters

I installed Steam Link on my Android phone and I’m getting weird stutters while playing. It runs fine for a moment, then I get 2–3 heavy freezes, and then it’s smooth again. Sometimes the screen even goes black for a split second. I’m not really sure what else I can do to fix it.

In the performance overlay, both the cyan and red graphs spike, but the red one seems to spike the most. What’s strange is that if I stay in one location in the game, the stutters don’t happen — but as soon as I start moving around, they come back.

I don’t think it’s my PC, because Steam Link works perfectly on my TV. I also tested this on two different phones and the issue is basically identical, so I assumed it might be the Wi‑Fi. But I’m sitting literally 2 meters from the router, and the Wi‑Fi speed is around 200 Mbps after I changed the channel width (it used to be ~500 Mbps before that).

Things I’ve tried so far:

- different Steam Link settings

- high‑performance mode on the phone

- disabled power saving features in the router

- changed Wi‑Fi channel and channel width

- Airtime Fairness is off

- band steering is off

Has anyone had a similar issue and found a fix?

Support What Am I Doing Wrong?

I’ve been using Apollo and Moonlight for a while now, but with the update to 3.8 I heard rumors that Steam Link was starting to be on par with those services.

I made sure both my steam deck and my hose PC were updated to the latest steam version, and while the sound and the latency seem to be fine, I can’t for the life of me fix the resolution.

I’ve played with all of the settings, even trying to force the Steam decks resolution via custom settings. I’ve also told it to match the client. I’ve even tried to force my desktop to be at a certain resolution, but I think the problem is that I have an Ultra Wide. Not only when I stream is the host PC monitor staying on even changing the default display, but it always forces my Ultra Wide aspect ratio onto my steam deck, resulting in this.

For reference, I’m not worried about running Palworld on my steam deck, but I have much more demanding games i’d like to try and I just happen to have this one downloaded.

Edit: Curious, I downloaded the Steam Link app on my Apple TV and tried to stream it to my device and I get the same locked aspect ratio. Does not matter how many times I mess with the settings or if I set a custom resolution nothing. Also tried this across various games.

Discussion Fave non action games perfectly suited for streaming to a small iPhone, especially if they already have a dedicated/official touchscreen control setup

Fairly new to using the steam link but I’m pleasantly surprised how well xcom 2 plays on my iPad with the official control scheme. I have slay the official ports of spire and mini metro on my iPhone from the App Store for my fairly small iPhone so I’m wondering what other games play perfectly well when streamed to a handheld device. Preferably non action as I’m surprised how well something like sonic mania plays streaming to my small iPhone but playing action games and not being able to feel the physical buttons just doesn’t feel right to me at all

Controller disconnects/reconnects when moving the joystick rapidly (Steam Link hardware)

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a second-hand Steam Link physical box for my non-smart TV. Everything works great regarding the connection and picture quality.

Although it took me a bit of effort to configure the controllers for PES 6 (setting it up outside of Steam), I’ve run into a weird issue: whenever I move the joystick rapidly in circles (or make quick inputs), the controller disconnects and immediately reconnects.

When testing the controls directly in the Steam Link system interface, it does the exact same thing. It’s almost as if the input gets overloaded or saturated, and the device disconnects the controller as some sort of safety measure. I have pdp rematch controller btw. Thanks in advise!

Steam remote play crashes handheld

Overtime I've been thinking how I can also use the Lego S as a controller for my main PC (as I don't have one) and came into the realm of streaming and more so steam remote play.

Overall it works but it's usually very short lived as the Lego S crashes and I have to hard reset it. I don't understand what's causing the crash because it doesn't crash when playing games natively and streaming doesn't require it to really be doing anything.

Has anyone else come across this issue? And what's the fix or approach to it?
