Yup got the 3 medals thats cool up to the final boss... and i have to collect 7 cristals now.

Definitely this. I played it all the way through for the first time recently, and was honestly shocked when the first half wasn't the ending. I was almost checked out by the time I completed it.

Have you seen the crossover randomizer? Fans found a way to link both games into one game, and randomized item locations for nearly infinite replayability
