Okami comes to mind. You spend hours gathering your powers and confront Orochi, only to find out you’re at the end of the prologue.

Okami has like 3 different endings because there are 3 semi disconnected parts lol

u/Scary-Independent-77 4h ago

Right? And you get this massive cinematic buildup and the ending every time.

u/TwilightVulpine 4h ago

And then it ends with a cliffhanger anyway lol

Okami 2 is still coming... right?

u/Terriermon_dot_EXE 3h ago

It did get a sequel 16 years ago on the DS called Okamiden which is 10/10. But they did announce a third game a while back even though Capcom has been quiet ever since.

19

u/IamSerati 3h ago

I mean, they did announce okami 2 is in the works at the game awards 2 years ago. So not totally silent…

3

u/Wenpachi 2h ago

Is Okamiden a sequel? I always thought it was a spinoff or a comedy with baby Amy and never bothered checking it (I also never had a DS so there's that).

3

u/Terriermon_dot_EXE 1h ago

Yes it's probably the most direct sequel they could've ever done since it takes place a couple of years after the main game and you play as Amy's kid and most of the supporting cast of Okami had kids as well so you mostly interact with them.

u/Wenpachi 1h ago

Amy's kid!!!!! 🤩😭 Damn, how did I not check this before? Time for a rerun and then look for a gameplay somewhere after that. Thanks, fam!

Waiting for my Ayn Thor currently so I can experience this one. High expectations

u/TwilightVulpine 3h ago

Hopefully...

Officially coming now! They announced Okami 2 two years ago at the game awards

3

u/That_wet_vaporeon 3h ago

Honestly I loved it though. Made it feel like an adventure

1

u/singesnosed9y 3h ago

hahaha yeah

6

u/No-One2123 3h ago

Isn't there technically 4? There's Orochi, the Kitsune, the Owl Guys, and then Yami.

7

u/tearlock 2h ago

I loved the Kitsune battle. Best boss fight in the game. The way it could mess with your celestial brush sequence was pretty great.

2

u/YsengrimusRein 1h ago

The set-up to that fight where you finish Ninetails' constellation is such a cool bait-and-switch. Honestly, while the rest of the game is solid, it's the entire Ryoshima Coast section that stands out the most in my memory.

u/C0UNT3RP01NT 1h ago

Four sequences though I never really felt like the time travel one was an ending. Orochi, Kitsune, and Yami all felt like they were developing to a climax. However the time travel sequence was effectively as long as the others.

u/Upset_Cook_1428 1h ago

There's also the Armored Wind Demon I can't remember the name of between Orochi and Kitsune

1

u/AzraelTheMage 1h ago

Its basically a trilogy all in one package.

1

u/Crimsonskye013 40m ago

I started replaying this recently and this also was the first thing to come to mind. Its a surprisingly long adventure game, especially if you're doing a lot of the side quests and looking for collectables.

And on a side note, its such a pretty game. It still looks better than most games coming out these days, but that's a personal opinion.

21

u/LokiTheZorua 4h ago

I immediately thought Okami as well

14

u/1ssun_Boshi 3h ago

Okami my favorite game ever mentioned lets GOOOOOOO

4

u/KaeraKoneko 2h ago

good taste, it's a really good game c:

u/_youneverasked_ 2h ago

Better Zelda game than BotW.

1

u/BUKKAKALYPSE_NOW 43m ago

In my opinion it's a better Zelda game than most actual Zelda games. That isn't even a knock against Zelda, Okami is just amazing.

18

u/IAmSpinda 4h ago

Yes and no. If you catch on that you are still missing like, half of the celestial brush techniques, and there's a very obvious area you haven't accessed, its not thaaaat surprising.

Happy to see this is the top comment. I’ve attempted to play through Okami countless times and I’ve still never finished it.

Kamiki Village Festival Celebration theme lives rent free in my head.

5

u/BrandHeck 3h ago

Shop theme for me! I have sat in the shop and listened to that tune for way longer than a normal person should.

u/BUKKAKALYPSE_NOW 34m ago

The Sun Rises gives me chills whenever I go back to listen to it.

9

u/AdOne5089 4h ago

This was the comment I was looking for. Definitely Okami and I genuinely think the 30% complete at orochi 1 is actually right.

1

u/WolfAkela 3h ago

It’s like the perfect example because it is indeed 1/3 of the game!

3

u/TheOnlyDeerAlive 3h ago

Finally. Another Okami lover in the wild!

1

u/Scary-Independent-77 3h ago

Hello, fellow Okami lover!

3

u/sealysea 2h ago

After finally beating the game, watching the end credits with all the cutscenes from your adventure being played along with the song was amazing

2

u/Chemical-Cat 3h ago

"Oh look you got time traveled to the past how fun"

"ARE YOU SERIOUSLY MAKING ME DO A BEAT FOR BEAT COPY OF THE FIRST CHAPTER"

"yes"

2

u/Dr_Quacksworth 3h ago

I was hoping Okami would be an answer here.

I remember beating Orochi the first time, thinking the game was short but sweet.  I was pleasantly surprised that there was much more to follow.

2

u/Souretsu04 2h ago

This is the very first game that came to mind.

2

u/Wenpachi 2h ago

Yo, FIRST THING that came to my mind as well. It's been a while since I last played it. Guess it's time for a replay.

5

u/MountainMuffin1980 4h ago

I loved that game but it was far too long.

4

u/Tekfrologic 3h ago

Bruh, I bought the PS4 remaster of Okami a couple years ago. I couldn't believe the game wasn't over at hour 50, and ended up shelving it 😭. I still plan on finally completing it one day

2

u/Scary-Independent-77 3h ago

Oh, I know. That "prologue" is about what? 15 - 20 hours? You beat the boss thinking, "wow, what a nice, compact little adventure" and then BOOM! lol

1

u/Tekfrologic 2h ago

Exactly! I was distraught, flummoxed, and bamboozled 😂

1

u/maxdragonxiii 2h ago

if youre at hour 50 you have around 10 to 20 depending on your exploration hours (or rather how lost are you lol) thats the main reason I hadnt come back to it yet, especially with my current gaming plans halted.

1

u/Zealousideal-Lab9843 3h ago

I couldn't get passed this one minigame. I tried so many times, read tips online. It is so shameful. 😔

1

u/phacious 3h ago

beat me to it

1

u/jose4440 2h ago

Okami was the first game that came to mind! *Insert Denzel Washington “My man” meme*

1

u/Important-Pass1079 2h ago

This 100%, I was like WHAT, I'M NOT EVEN HALF WAY THROUGH?!

God it was amazing.

1

u/Sad7Statue 2h ago

This was my first thought as well. Made me quit playing as a kid but I eventually finished it on the switch release.

1

u/SuperSocialMan 2h ago

If you can make it through the absolute slog of frontloaded dialogue for like three hours lol

1

u/Real_Walk5384 2h ago

I want to like this game so much more than I do. The absurd amount of time wasting they put in accounts for half the play time.

1

u/F0ehamm3r 1h ago

I never finished the game. Because I beat Orochi and was like "What?"

1

u/Shaby28 1h ago

This one

1

u/C0UNT3RP01NT 1h ago

Blew my mind as a kid. Like there’s nearly a full game before the Orochi fight (remember older games tended to be a lot shorter; plenty of great games you could beat in 10-20 hours). So when you beat him… and the game just keeps going… and going… and then takes a side route… and then back to going… and another side route… and then going some more… and then goes back in time… and then finally gets to the end, man it was an all-time formative video game experience. I swear Okami, Kingdom Hearts 2, Tenkaichi 3, Ace Combat 4/5/0, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong were the games I played all the damn time on my PS2.

1

u/King-Juggernaut 1h ago

My first thought as well. Im not sure I even finished the 3rd ending as a kid.

1

u/Animedude83 1h ago

LMAO HECK YEAH. I've been itching for years to just lock in and finish the whole game, its wild you start with a sliver of japan, and then it just opens up the entire map.

1

u/StJimmy_815 1h ago

My favorite game of all time. If you’re reading this and like old school Zelda games, get this fucking game now, it’ll change your life

1

u/witchprinxe 1h ago

I was also going to say Okami. This game is DENSE. A classic for a reason.

1

u/Malina_Island 32m ago

Exactly that! Came to say this as well!!

u/CharlesOberonn 1m ago

It takes forever to just reach the first dungeon.
