The first area was awesome. And then I moved to the next area and it's just... Surprise. Here's an actual entire continent and you're down here. Have fun
I like that it isn’t. There’s still some video game fuckery to condense the world but Velen being a region in Temeria instead of the whole country makes the country itself feel bigger. Skyrim diminishes itself by fitting the whole country into one relatively small map.
You're correct. Tamriel is the continent, Skyrim is a country. There are no official figures for how big Skyrim is supposed to be, but our best guess is that it's supposed to be around the size of Scandinavia.
I love it when games do that and the other areas still feel great. I was absolutely loving Outer Worlds 2 because the first planet just felt like it was full of life, all of your companions reacted to things they logically should have been reacting to!
Then I get to the end, and my Big Mean Government Boy is so incredibly unconcerned when I kill his leader and loot the original leader's tomb!
I played through Hearts of Stone first, so I had sort of tempered my expectations for Blood and Wine; I was expecting it to be cool and fun, but I wasn't expecting a WHOLE EXTRA MAP. Toussaint is massive and beautiful with loads to do, it's crazy. B&W is probably a top 5 DLCs of all time for me.
I went into it fairly blind years ago despite it being out long enough to have both DLCs. I had the same experience, by the time I was getting to the end of Velen I was thinking "alright yeah that was pretty good, I guess it's about to wrap up". Then I realized what I had finished was essentially just the beginning of the game. It was a little mind blowing after being so used to sub-20 hour games.
Yes! During the preparations for the “big fight“ in Kaer Morhen I thought that this must be the great finale after which the game is over. Boy, was I wrong 😅
Was looking for this one. Lol. Got a few hours in, saw how far in I was, and put it down for awhile. Haven't picked it back up in two years because of how overwhelmed I felt. 😅
It's exciting in a lot of cases, sure. But there's some games when it's like, "is it done yet?" (Not saying Witcher 3 is like that by any means). Witcher 3 is good, but I have plenty of smaller games in my backlog I wanted to turn to and finish up before divesting a good portion of my time into one game.

the thing that makes me love Witcher 3 more is the world is alive
villages, stores, events, its an amazing world to explore and interact with.
Elden Ring like every fromsoft game you're a character exploring the ruins of a dead / dying world with a handful of "living" NPCs who eventually die or become insane near the end lol
it has its own charm though but I really love a living world, it gives a great contrast when you explore ruins and dead regions that are full of monsters .
