From the county facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1RdrMxzuwc/

Due to ongoing drought conditions across the region, Southwest Florida Water Management District's governing board voted today to extend Phase 3 water restrictions through Oct. 1, 2026. Sarasota County continues to be under the following watering restrictions:

- Watering hours are LIMITED to overnight (8 p.m. - 11:59 p.m. or 12 a.m. - 4 a.m.) on your watering day.

- Car washing can be done on your watering day at any time, but you must have a shutoff nozzle on your water hose.

- Fountains are limited to four hours per day.

- Public Utilities staff will issue citations without warning.

More information can be found at scgov.net/waterrestrictions.

Full Information Here: https://www.scgov.net/government/public-utilities-water/customer-services/water-restrictions#docaccess-1d8429007a0302dd8bb759692de8d2aa But here's what most people want to see:

Q: When am I allowed to water my lawn?

A: Residents should check with their city or county for their allowable day and times as many

have different schedules or stricter hours in effect. Below is the standard schedule:

  • • If your address (house number) ends in...
    • ...0 or 1, water only on Monday
    • ...2 or 3, water only on Tuesday
    • ...4 or 5, water only on Wednesday
    • ...6 or 7, water only on Thursday
    • o..8 or 9*, water only on Friday
    • * and locations without a discernible address
  • Unless your city or county already has stricter hours in effect, watering hours are reduced to 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. or 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Properties less than one acre in size may only use one of these windows.
  • Unless your city or county already has stricter hours in effect, properties one acre or larger may only water before 4 a.m. and after 8 p.m.

Q: What about my plants and shrubs?

A: Low-volume watering of plants and shrubs (micro-irrigation, soaker hoses, hand watering) is allowed any day but is limited to before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m

Q: What happens if I receive a letter from my HOA that requires me to use water?

A: No HOA or other entity shall enforce deed restrictions or other community standards

requiring an increase in potable or domestic well water use, including replacement of plant

material to meet aesthetic standards or pressure washing (i.e., driveways).

Nightmare Fuel LinkedIn is begging us to allow them to post their AI Slop article where Sarasota is featured

LinkedIn has an official Reddit account on which they're asking permission to post a link to their AI Slop article about how "Sarasota is one of the fastest growing metros". Don't worry, I told them to fuck off. Definitely a sign that shit ain't doing well over at LinkedIn if they have to beg a subreddit with 60k subs for permission to post an article.

RANTS Get These Geriatric Zombies Off Of The Road

Post image

I went to the DMV the other day to update my address. While I was there a lady that had to be in her 90s was trying to renew her license. She could barely walk, physically or mentally function and couldn't pass her eye exam. They wouldn't renew it, thankfully. Her and her daughter that was with her were having a fit. It's terrifying that this lady was able to be on the road. It's even more terrifying that there are tens of thousands of others in town that have equal or worse motor skills and vision. Something has to be done, but I'm sure no politician will help and agencies won't want to get sued for "ageism. A complete danger to society and we have to look the other way. /rant

Came down to celebrate my birthday & was hoping to find a spot where I can dine solo. Have worked in fine dining for years & am open to those suggestions, & also hoping to find a waterfront place where I can dine alone without having to feel like I’m taking a table from server. Love bar dining, any help is greatly appreciated

Looking For Suggestions! Goldendoodle Breeder?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all, wondering if folks have any experience working with a mini Goldendoodle breeder in the area.

Before people jump down my throat, we have an allergy in the family, so adopting is not an option, we need to know details about the parents and generation.

Anyone have experience with a reputable breeder locally? Want to avoid puppy mills

Thank you! (Photo for visibility)

Looking For Suggestions! Excavator rental or price for removal?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I have two palm trees that I’d like to give away (someone is interested) but I think we would need an excavator to dig around them to load onto their truck or trailer. I’m not sure how much those go for but I assume it would be about 30min to an hour of digging around them to not damage the roots too much. Does anyone locally have one and how much would that go for?

Discussions - Homelessness Facing immediate displacement – looking for local resources or guidance

Hi everyone,
I am facing a very time-sensitive emergency in Sarasota.

I am a 25-year-old woman, currently employed, but I do not have a car (on foot/public transit). I need to figure out my next immediate steps for safe shelter or temporary housing starting today/tomorrow right after my work shift.

Individual shelters haven't gotten back to me yet, and I am reaching out to local intake offices as soon as I clock out. I am posting to ask if anyone knows of any local emergency resources, women's programs, church networks, or short-term housing avenues in the Sarasota area that I might be overlooking, or if you have any practical advice for navigating this on foot while working.

Thank you so much for reading and for any guidance you can share.

Shots shots shots shots shots (Bar Discussions) my boyfriend built a free app that shows every happy hour in Sarasota

with the snowbirds gone and the parking situation downtown, our local spots could use some love right now.
we love going out, so my boyfriend built Yappy Hour app that shows every happy hour around town with actual prices, and how much time is left before it ends. it can also ping you when a spot near you starts pouring!
it’s free, no ads, no account needed 🙂

I’m the unofficial marketing department of this two person operation lol, so honest feedback is very welcome. if your favorite spot is missing or a deal is wrong, tell me and we’ll fix it same day!

News Sarasota citations for sleeping outside soar as chronic homelessness persists

Thumbnail
suncoastsearchlight.org
101 Upvotes

Criminal citations for sleeping outside have surged across Sarasota during the last six years, climbing from two dozen issued in 2020 to 343 last year — more than a 14-fold increase.

The citations are meant to be an entry point into a system of homelessness services like housing support, mental health treatment and recovery programs for substance use disorders.

But the system is limited — with waitlists that can stretch on for months — and many people experiencing homelessness don’t feel comfortable receiving help through the police and court system. Some said they would rather just accept a citation, even if it means they’re saddled with a fine they can’t pay or they spend a few days in jail.

Moving (Help Me Make Life Decisions!) Planning to move within next 2 months

Currently live in Cape Coral, but I've been looking for a change. My wife works in North Venice and my step dad works in Sarasota (parents live with me). Considering my wife and step dad wake up pretty early and drive quite a bit, I thought the reasonable thing to do was to move closer to their jobs. My lease is up for renewal and this is the perfect opportunity to start fresh somewhere else. How's Sarasota feeling these days? Would you recommend I look somewhere else? What's something to look out for? Please share anything big or small that may help. Thank you so much!

Looking For Suggestions! Date ideas that don't involve eating out

So I've recently been diagnosed with a chronic illness that really limits my ability to do some things socially. I cannot eat/drink out at all , so I'm looking for date ideas for my husband and I to go out and have fun together that don't involve food and also allow us to be flexible when I'm not feeling at my best.

For the most part I don't need ideas that involve nature/being outside. This is something we often do together but also something I'm not always able to do depending on my health. I'm looking more for things that are creative or entertainment oriented in Sarasota and up through Tampa and St. Pete even. We like music, art, gaming, travel, cultural or creative experiences, things like that. Thanks for any insight you have!

edit: we both work full time regular business hours during the week, so we're looking for more out of the ordinary things to do that are on evenings and weekends.

Local Questions ie whats up with that Must Eat/ Must Do Places in Siesta Key?

Heading to Siesta Key for the first time in the beginning of August. Normally travel to the east coast of FLA, but am looking to switch it up. I'm heading there with my GF for a long weekend (Wednesday afternoon- Sunday morning). We have no plans just wanted a beach getaway with the two of us. We are staying right near Sunset Pier. I have a few questions/ would love suggestions.

What is the best beach bar vibe within walking distance from Sunset Beach? We are not much of nightlife/ club vibes people, but I love getting day drunk at beach bars/ on the beach.

Are there bars on the beach (assuming no based off google). What is the best practice to have drinks on the beach? Cooler?

Are they any "must try" restaurants around that area? Thinking about doing one night of nicer dining, but also would like recommendations for restaurants that are constantly good/ easy to get to (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Besides the beach is there anything we should try to do or see when we are there? Want to stay in the area for the most part since we aren't renting a car, but we are willing to uber within 15-20 minutes of the area.

Local Questions ie whats up with that Wellen Park Phase 2

Does anybody know what the delay is for phase 2? I’ve been waiting for that French spot La Maison to open. All it says is that it’s coming soon this summer, but we’re already halfway through summer and we still don’t have an opening date or any sort of update at all. I honestly thought they would be open by now.

Looking For Suggestions! Siesta Key Palm Reader

Post image
0 Upvotes

I know this is a long shot, but…about 10 years ago I went to a Palm reader/tarot card reader in downtown Siesta Key. I believe her name was Amanda, but I’m not sure. Ten years later, I’m shocked that every specific thing she told me came true. I would love to visit her again, but haven’t been able to find her. Does anyone recognize the attached picture of her shop I took back then? I’ve also included an outdated link to her business listing. Any help would be appreciated!!

Event Courthouse wedding

Can anyone who had gotten married at the courthouse give me a run down on what to expect? We are inviting guests and trying to understand how it works! We were thinking of arriving at 2:45pm and telling our guests that the “ceremony” starts at 3pm, with the understanding that it might be closer to 3:30.

How long does it usually take to get through the line on a Tuesday afternoon?
Having a hard time coming up with a time line for dinner afterwards and what to tell our guests

Looking For Suggestions! Celiac friendly restaurants in SRQ?

My sister is visiting from overseas - and she's got a very aggressive form of celiac. If she as much as touches gluten, she's in deep trouble.

For those familiar: can you recommend any restaurants in Sarasota that are "for real" gluten free? Like they need to either be fully gluten free as a dedicated establishment or have a separated food prep area, so there is no cross-contamination.
