I love Californication, who doesn’t? This won’t be neither the first or the last time this is talked about on this sub but idc.
Californication is THE album, it’s actually insane, so many hits in just a single album some of them right after each other like scar tissue and otherside. Frusciante had just came back from rehab and all those years of substance abuse so his playing was simpler and that made the entire album, the solo on easily and Californication reflect that really well, yet they fit like a glove.
An amazing album really and the only thing pushing it back is the mix. The songs are loud and compressed but not mixed properly, the chorus on Parallel Universe suffers a lot from that since there’s only one guitar in the middle making it so it doesn’t have the impact it needed. Quixoticelixer’s outro is amazing but mix-wise it’s all fucked, everything’s mashed together
Nonetheless this is an amazing album, for me summer only begins once I listen to this album beneath the sun, it’s just a shame it wasn’t as well mixed as, for example, BSSM which for me is the greatest album oat

Any fans of John’s solo work might enjoy this cover I just made of one of my favourite songs. Cheers x

3 year old post on an almost 15 year old song (next month), but today's listen stirred a lot of emotions.
One of my all-time favorite Peppers songs, from the very first listen. I listened to I'm With You the week it released and this track hit me like a punch in the gut. It felt so primal and raw with real emotion and reverence. The track stands in contrast to the rest of the album, yet still familiar of that RHCP style that evolved with John and Chad in the post-One Hot Minute years. It immediately became my favorite track and a reason to listen to the album.
Today I was feeling nostalgic and decided to kickoff a 2000s rock playlist while I Dashed. I've fallen out of my heavy RHCP phase over the years and had not listened to any of their albums in quite a while. Dani California came on and the memory of its release came rushing back. Man, they wail on that song. I considered putting on Stadium, but something in me caused Brendan's Death Song to bubble up and I went with IWY instead. I knew it was coming before it came on. This song gets me..every..time. And of course it doesn't take long once Anthony starts singing that I'm holding back tears. By the time he sings "another sun will rise" and belting his "yeahs" over Chad's prodigious drum performance, I'm barely short of weeping.
Of course, once the song had finished (and I had wiped my face), I immediately Googled the song and brought up the Wiki page on it (also finding this post).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan%27s_Death_Song
While I knew the song was about Brendan Mullen and who he was to them, I had never before heard the July 2011 interview with Anthony. "Mullen died on the first day of rehearsals for the album. Kiedis said he received a text message about the death and he informed the band when he got to rehearsals. Without talking, the band quickly started to play music and the jam, which was the basis for the song, came right away."
You really have to appreciate little nuggets like that, how they can add weight and meaning and new emotions to a piece of artwork that you already had so much esteem and adoration for. Just wanted to share that. Thanks for reading. And thanks to u/Za_Warudo2948 for the original post.

Does anyone here know if the rumor about more info on the new RHCP album dropping later in 2026 is true?
I read somewhere that Chad Smith mentioned this in an interview. I'm really surprised by this total radio silence, especially since it doesn't quite fit the 'funky monks are on the run' vibe.
A lot of people are starting to doubt whether the new album will even come out by 2027. From what I know, if they don't announce a tour by the end of this year, the chances of that happening are slim to none.

After watching a YouTube video of The Offspring celebrating the 30 year anniversary of their album Smash by playing it track by track live, it got me thinking about the Chili Peppers. Which album would you want to see them play song by song?
What kind of demand would there be to see BSSM played live in its entirety to commemorate the 35 year milestone? How can we make this happen?

Hi all, my friends of the Chad Smith Foundation asked me to share that there are still a few tickets left for his benefit show, raising money for music education. It's at the Cultural Arts Playhouse in Syosset, NY. Everyone in attendance will meet Chad Smith and receive a pair of signed drumsticks! Also adding special guests like Mike Delguidice and Wheatus! Definitely worth coming out! Use my code CSF100 to get $100 off tickets at ChadSmithandFriends.com

After watching the documentary on Netflix I said to myself “not a damn soul needs another Michael Jackson movie, we need a red hot chilli peppers movie set in the 70’s” with kids cast that are as talented as the ones in welcome to deery and stranger things
