This roguish lad is perfect as hired muscle, an unsubtle highway robber or the dungeon keeper of some renegade wizard’s tower!

Ogre Guard from the Rangers of Shadow Deep range, produced by North Star Military Figures. Painted using the Vallejo Model Color range. 40mm base.

I built a custom board game companion app. A demo RoSD Campaign included

Hey Rangers! I built a board game companion app to clean up table clutter. I just finished testing it on iOS and Android.

Key features shown in the screenshots:

  • Map Explorer: Interactive campaign maps with point-of-interest markers.
  • Memo Wall: Track event tables with rich text, images, and audio triggers.
  • Dice Roller: Multi-dice roller with live history.
  • Rule Search: Fast keyword lookup for stats and status conditions (Poison, Disease).

App Link: https://bg-pet.web.app/

You will find a brief guide in the app page as well. I hope you find the app useful. Please try it out and let me know what you would like to improve! ❤️

New Players, Mission 1

Yesterday we had our first session, playing "deserted village" and "infected trees". We had a lot of fun and some really wacky things happened, like one Rogue fought against a zombie and a rar for several rounds, till he killed it, got a treasure from a clue marker right next to him, just to run out of the building and getting burried under the next one, collapsing right when he almost got away.

In general, the scenarios appeared to us rather easy, but as we did not take it very seriously, and did some stupid but fun stuff on purpose, we still got hurt a lot.

We will continue this campaign, for sure!

The library was a bit of a blood bath. My teammate lost his ranger and both companions. I lost my bear and my tactical goose. Trying the Hospital Ward next.

Played the first scenario of Burning Light last night. We are level 6 so played with the challenge mode. Barely survived. We both lost all of our companions. Thankfully the scenario ended before the rangers were killed. On to the courtyard next week.

Painted a 3d print of a ruined farmhouse from Printable Scenery, scaled to suit the measurements of the scenario. Happy of how it turned out and excited to run the final mission. Wish my rangers luck! 😂

Broken Stairs

The fly-holes could be sealed quite quickly, but there were still a few falls. One companion was knocked out, but recovered after the mission.

Swampland

Luckily, our heavily armored player had a magical item from previous scenarios, so he didn’t have to make any swim tests. One companion almost drowned, but I was able to heal him up so he managed to get out. My companion, however, was taken out by a gnoll/ungor archer from the patrol that appeared — but he too recovered after the game, as did the dog companion, who had been felled by a zombie.

The Last Stand

So far the closest game. We lost three of the civilians (one of the archers was fully healed back to full HP by a random event), three companions (one was left with a single hit point), and I almost fell myself — I ended with only 1–2 hit points. I needed my healing for the other rangers right from the start. The enemy archers in particular dealt a lot of damage.

A key moment was a critical hit at the right time that killed a still-uninjured troll in one blow.
Again, everyone who had been reduced to zero hit points recovered afterward.

Next time we will play Blood Moon.

Played Blood Moon. What a fun scenario. It was a lot of work for a one off but it was worth it. Now on to the Blinding Light campaign.

I turned the other side of my magnetic Frostgrave board into a grassland battlefield

Just finished the other side of my magnetic game board!

About a year ago I built a magnetic city board for Frostgrave. It worked so well that I decided to give the reverse side some attention and turn it into a grassy battlefield.

The build uses play sand, flocking, static grass, and a whole lot of Woodland Scenics products. One of the things I was most curious about was whether the magnets would still work through all the texture. Thankfully, they do.

I'm really happy with how much more versatile the board is now. City streets on one side, open countryside on the other.

Almost ready for the first scenario

We took Tor Varden

Our heroes defeated the evildoers and we recaptured Tor Varden. Not every prisoner was saved and some companions were struck down (nobody died, though), but the four Rangers had no major difficulties successfully fulfilling their mission.

We burst through the storage room (sadly lost the dog there), cleared the torture room (couldn't save the soldier there) and killed the shaman before he could animate the flesh golem.

On the upper level it helped that we had Enchanted Steel, Fairy Dust and some magic spells for the final fight; combined with some handy crits, the shadow knights (plural because of the challenge level) were quickly struck down.

Next time we descent into darkness.

The tiles and walls are from Dungeons&Lasers, the scatter terrain from a variety of companies.

Finished Descent of Darkness and then played the scenarios in reverse to get the survivors safely back. Lost a civilian and an archer but otherwise everyone else made it.

Next week, Blood Moon and then on to Blinding Light.

What kind of tokens are you using in your games. I am new to it and will play solo. So tokens could help to make me remember things. Which game aids do you think can be helpful ?

Managed to save all the civilians. Going to be doing scenario 2 and 1 again, but in reverse. Let’s see if we can get all the civilians out of the Shadowdeep.

Played the first mission again with new group

I convinced three new players to try RoSD and together we battled against the undead, rats and spiders of the first rulebook mission. For them it was the first tabletopgame and they enjoyed it very much. I warned them that the game will get harder, for 4 Rangers the first scenarios are quite easy, even with challenge level.

Showcase: Dynamic Character Sheets I set up for our Ranger Group

Thumbnail

Showcase of the Google Sheets I made for our Ranger party. Growing tired of the scribbling and re-doing of my printed character sheet (often forgetting the levelling choices I had made until then), I took inspiration from Dangerous Dave's excel tracker and created character sheets that dynamically update as you level up and get new gear. Everything's connected, your chosen traits and limitations show up dynamically, your XP and level increase as the party progresses scenarios in the GM sheet, you can track your item uses, hunger levels, injuries etc. I also threw in an XP calculator for the survived encounters.
Originally I wanted to publish this for the community but realised that I put in too much of the books to do that without Joseph McCullough's permission - I reached out to him via his website for that, I'll keep you posted!

I built Feudal Age Britons houses from Age of Empires 2 for tabletop gaming

I’ve been working on a set of village houses inspired by the Britons civilization from Age of Empires 2. I built them mainly for Rangers of Shadow Deep, but they should work great for Frostgrave, Mordheim, D&D, or other tabletop games too.

Video link is in the comments for anyone interested.

What is needed to start?

Picked up the main rule book and was wondering if I should pick up any of the other supplements before I start.

Also any tips on where to get some good trees for the second scenario?
