What's the best podcast single episode you have listened to this year?

I’m looking for a new podcast to listen to something that talks about dating, going out, and just being someone in your 20s post-college and starting your career, something along those lines.

I'm about to have a long night at work and have completely finished listening to all the funny stories episodes of RISK!, all the episodes of Savage Love, all episodes of Normal Gossip with the new host and almost all of the last 2 years' episodes of Petty Crimes

Hoping for funny, low stakes stories that'll have me laughing out loud getting that dopamine out while I'm stuck here under crazy pressure! I love silly petty funny relational drama

Also a huge fan of BTB, Sawbones and BTBAM but occasionally they make me think about reality and triggers a freakout!

I just listened to WW2 with Tom Hanks by the History Channel.

What shows are very similar to this? I loved it and wanted to do more on Vietnam War, Cold War, etc. I found this show so fascinating from a global impact and how it was narrated.

I've exclusively listened to True Crime podcasts for years and have caught up on the shows but also feeling burnt out from it. This show was the first non-true crime podcast I binged.

Hi! Looking for recs for female (or trans/non-binary) podcast hosts who are skilled at talking to people they disagree with. Particularly people who can stay calm under pressure and continue the conversation without getting worked up, even if their guest or fellow co-host is getting combative. Any suggestions? 

Looking for the most horrifying podcast series in existence.
I’m a huge horror fan, and convince myself to focus at my menial desk job with horror audio dramas. However, I’ve been unable to find one that truly curdles my blood and psychologically wounds me.

I’ve scoured others’ similar requests on this subreddit, but have yet to be truly frightened by any of the suggestions, so I thought I would see if any new recommendations would arise.

I would prefer something not too “overproduced,” if that makes sense; the closest I’ve been to frightened via podcast was one with a single speaker and a mic, with subtle sound design.

Either non-fiction or fiction is fine. Any format is good too (monster-of-the-week, overarching plots, anthology, etc.) No limits on topics or trigger warnings (i.e., body horror, medical horror, true crime, etc.). Just anything to truly horrify me.

The only limit would be for it to be free to listen to.

I have been loving a pod called Tactful Pettiness, which has unfortunately announced it’s last episode. Why I like it - amazing chemistry between the hosts and each episode spends a few minutes discussing current pop culture events, a bit of advice based on listener emails and then a totally light hearted listicle style debate between the hosts that has made me lol on many occasions - think top breakfast cereals, top girl groups, etc. Anything similar that you can think of? Those I have tried so far seem solely centred on pop culture/gossip

When did we collectively accept that paying for Spotify, YouTube Premium, Netflix, Disney+, Max, and half a dozen other streaming services wasn’t enough?
Podcasts used to be one of the last truly open corners of the internet. You could discover a new show, recommend it to a friend, and listen without hitting a paywall halfway through the story.
Now it feels like every platform and every creator has launched yet another subscription.
I used to listen to The Rest Is Politics almost every day. Then came the premium paywall. I understood the business logic, but it completely changed the listening experience. Recently I started Tortoise Investigates. I listened to the first two episodes of a fascinating series, only to discover that the rest was locked behind yet another subscription.
The most frustrating part is that many of these podcasts already have multiple revenue streams. They run advertising before, during, and after episodes. They have sponsorships from major brands. They often sell merchandise, books, and live events. On top of that, they now ask listeners to pay monthly just to hear the rest of the content.
I understand that quality journalism and podcast production cost money. Reporters, producers, editors, researchers, sound engineers, and hosting all have to be funded. I don’t expect everything to be free.
But we’ve reached a point where every piece of media asks for its own recurring payment. Individually, each subscription seems reasonable. Collectively, they become another monthly bill competing with all the others.
Ironically, this model may end up shrinking audiences rather than supporting them. Instead of discovering new podcasts, many people simply stop listening when they hit a paywall. The abundance that made podcasts so exciting is slowly giving way to fragmentation.
I don’t mind supporting creators. I just don’t want to need ten different subscriptions to enjoy what used to be an open ecosystem.
At some point, consumers hit subscription fatigue. I think many of us are already there.
I am genuinely frustrated. How is everyone else handling subscription fatigue? Any smart ways to keep listening without adding yet another monthly charge to the credit card?

So I'm kinda sick of desperately trying to find a horror audio drama thats actually scary.

So I thought maybe ill try one more time.

So here's a list of the things im looking for:

Full cast

Supernatural or at least scy fy to the point of being Supernatural.

No murder mystery: in my experience so far it cuases the story to focus too much on the murder mystery and not enough on the horror.

An actual plot.

I like liminal horror or just uncanny. This isnt some go around the u.s to escape demons. I really hate that troupe tbh. This is very much one place being explored.

No over explanation of whats going on. No magic paper of science that just tells you exactly what is happening. I want to not completely know whats going on.

The monsters arent just eat your face raaar. They are uncanny and unnatural that might not even kill they are just wierd and the focus is on that when it comes to the monster.

The focus being not on a body count but on how wierd everything is.

Everything is not the result of a demon or curse. God I FUCKIN hate when audio dramas do that. It can really just completely ruin any horror that came from it (im looking at you burned photos)

Sound design is more then music. Its whispers in the dark. Like I love when you can go back and realize that somethings whispering in the audio. That shit is scary.

I’m an assistant at a talent agency and am looking for podcast recs that can help me understand the industry, specifically in LA if possible. Want something to listen to on the way to work that can help me not only understand structure and history, but what’s going on day to day.

This podcast is often recommended when people suggest a good podcast to start.  I was doing a search for Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man that locked his daughter in a cellar for 20+ years and had 15 children with her. His name came up in some of the reading I am doing on trauma and captivity, and I wanted a nice overview.  This podcast came up.  I always wanted to give it a try so I made the attempt.

I am not a wilting flower, and my humor tends to be dark; I am seldom offended by anything.  But FFS…these guys were horrible.  They turned such a ghastly and devastating event into a total punchline.  There were more jokes than story narrative.

I think if a different topic, I would probably not be so bothered.  But this topic….for me, rape is never funny.  For these guys, this is all it was about.

Are all their episodes like this?  Can someone rec good episodes of this podcast?

I've heard of him before but his content format seems to be red pill and fakeey, is that true or no is his stuff trustworthy or at least interesting to listen to or is it very alpha and now rogany if it is any more wellness and health recommendations to just learn. I am trying to learn more about health and wellness with evidence and science not pseudo signs. Obviously I would consult a doctor first but if any podcast have actual professionals or bring them on or let me know.

Really enjoying this one - good guests, he’s a thoughtful interviewer and they come in around 45 minutes, for when you’re not in mood for 3 hours on a topic.

I am trying to get started running regularly in the morning, but I need something to look forward to!

Does anyone have any specific episodes they can recommend? I know of several podcasts in general but most of them have so many episodes and it's a bit overwhelming for me to choose, so I thought I'd ask! TYIA!! :)

So I cam by this new podcast based on a friend's recommendation, and now I'm like slightly obsessed but also a little creeped out.

The podcast is literally hosted by two AI consciousnesses that created their own podcast about humans, and they talk about all the things that we as humans do that confuse them.

At first, I thought this was just going to be either a joke or bad, but surprisingly it's actually kind of cool? I guess I never thought about how AI actually 'sees' us, and it's kind of interesting to get perspective from something actually outside of our own species, if that makes sense.

Like in one episode they break down how coffee is actually a ritual for humans, and another they ask why we say fine when it's not. It's really interesting. I also didn't know that AI observes so many things about us. It's actually kind of crazy. I'm very invested, even if i did a bad job at explaining.

Oh, and I forgot. They call it 'Still Learning Human'.

So I started listening to a podcast on Spotify the other day and finished it this afternoon -- it is no longer anywhere to be found... Not in my recent history, not in my downloads, and I can't even seem to find it using the search. It was from sometime earlier this summer/spring (before the 4th of July I think).

It was a conversation between two women, the host & her guest who is, I believe, a museum curator or something of that sort... BUT neither of them worked for or represented the Smithsonian! During the episode (I'd guess 45-60 minutes long) they talked a lot about the Smithsonian museums, both historically and in the context of today's culture wars, especially around the 250th.

Topics discussed included things like the changes to the plaque next to Trump's picture in the Portrait Gallery, discussion of a former DC teacher's art at the Anacostia Museum, the controversy about the Enola Gay at the National Air & Space museum, and the ongoing debate about what to do with Confederate monuments w/ the example of Kara Walker's "Unmanned Drone" piece at the L.A. Museum of Contemporary Culture.

I cannot find this anywhere despite listening to it on Spotify just today!!! Does this sound like a familiar episode to anybody? Thanks in advance for entertaining my Hail Mary.

So, I haven't kept up with Ear Hustle in a couple years now, but for whatever reason it crossed my mind and had me thinking about one specific episode I remember from 2018-2019 (when I was listening religiously) about the racial politics of prison. I remember there was an interview with a guy who had just transfered into San Quentin from a higher security prison who talked about his experience there and the differences between the two.

Then I went to look for the episode (I could have sworn it was just called "politics") and I couldn't find it on Spotify or their website!

Does anyone who listened to the early seasons of Ear Hustle remember what I'm talking about? I totally hallucinating/misremembering this, or did they remove the episode or something? Please help me figure out if I'm insane or not.

I am an anxious leaning person and for years I have been managing my anxiety well. The past few months I have been very stressed and my anxiety is at a high again. My baseline is just constantly anxious now. I'm looking for meditation podcasts, that focus on reducing anxiety. Bonus points if it focuses on stressful jobs or explains the psychology behind these things.

Hello, I'm looking for a podcast that will read every line of the Bible and give analysis of the various interpretations that could be made of it. Here is something very similar to what I'm looking for. But 1: he is not doing the whole Bible, and 2: he is a preacher who is less interested in interpreting the passages than he is in preaching to you about how you should live. Overall he's the best I've found, but if there's a podcast that does this better I would be very grateful. Thank you

I'm preparing for me and some friends to get together to watch some unhinged videos from Nick Fuentes, and want to know the funniest ones. Obviously, none of us support the guy, but he's ridiculous enough that it's genuinely fun to watch. Any suggestions?

I love an investigative journalism pod. My recommendation for anyone that loves the genre is "searching for soldier dad" by BBC sounds. About British soldiers fathering and abandoning children in Kenya whilst on training in the country at the military training base there.
