Rescue Chaunta, the senior pitbull with the inoperable watermelon sized cancerous mammary tumor and terminal cancer wants you to know that she is still here and she is getting a surprise on Friday!

Hi, friends! I am so, so sorry that I was unable to say Thank You to everyone for all of the amazing gifts that they sent Chaunta. Reddit is balls, sometimes, friends. I think that only one person left their username in the gift receipts, so, please please please message me if you'd like a handwritten thank you card or just a picture of Miss Chaunta!

I was able to connect with an absolutely amazing woman who runs a mobile grooming service after I had posted on Facebook about Chaunta basically needing a bath and blow dry monthly for the benefit of both of our healths. I just asked if there was anyone out there who would be willing to do a rescue discount or month package or something that was discounted because hospice care is expensive and I cannot afford $100/month for her to get groomed. Well, this amazing woman stepped up and not only that, but two of her clients paid for 6 months worth of grooms but a nonprofit that she works with that helps dogs like Chaunta offered to pay for another 6 months worth of grooming (and possibly more if we even need it considering we have no idea how long she has left). Chaunta is going to absolutely die and go to heaven on Friday because she's going to be meeting and getting love from at least 3 new people plus my caregiver Kelly and maybe Jennifer from the rescue! She absolutely LIVES for meeting and loving new people. She is so sweet and so patient and she sits so pretty and just waits for people to greet and love on her.

These 3 photos are of some gifts that she was sent. She managed to destroy the purple shirt at some point over the weekend (HOW????? SHE NEVER EVEN TRIED TO TOUCH IT BEFORE!!!), but, I think she looks very pretty in pink.

And, the doggles (doggy goggles) are an absolute hit! She looks like she's going to NASCAR and needs a can of Bud Light and nacho Doritos next to her. Lol.

I know that I have blessed with so, so much more than I could have ever even imagined when it came to Chaunta, but, of course with time and as the cancer progresses, we unfortunately need new things and supplements to keep her comfortable and doing her best!

Please please please, if you are at all able andy willing to do so, please consider blessing Chaunta with some of the new supplements her medical team has recommended we look into or maybe even a little bit of luxury!

Thank you so, so, so much, r/pitbulls for being the place that saw Chaunta for the incredibly special dog that she is and lifting me up even when I was struggling with strength and hope. This beautiful brindle spotted senior pitbull with ground down terrible teeth, lumps and bumps all over, yeasty skin and paws, tumors on her vagina, a massive watermelon sized mammary tumor, a hematoma, and terminal cancer somehow, SOMEHOW, escaped the sbc deathcamp alive AFTER her execution time. I would have never guessed in all my years of experience with dogs that this girl would have touched so many hearts so deeply. I live in Southern California where hundreds of pitbulls are euthanized WEEKLY. Pitbulls just aren't dogs that people really care about out here, sadly. I mean, I never personally thought that I would have a pitbull! I have to say, though, I could not be happier that I decided to say yes to her.

Joleen saw Chaunta in her kennel photo and fell deeply into those soul searching eyes. Jennifer decided to take a chance on this sweet baby, if she was even still alive. I said "yes" to giving her a home (and then a forever home when her tumor was declared inoperable and that she was terminal). And YOU. YOU GUYS GIVE ME THE ABILITY TO GIVE CHAUNTA THE ABSOLUTE BEST THAT I CAN IN THE WORLD FOR HOWEVER LONG SHE HAS LEFT IN IT!

Fuck cancer, she was only six years old but she had a good life in those short six years, and ours was made better because of her.

Why didn’t anyone tell me?!

I’ve always been a rescue fan. My last two dogs came from rescues and they were hound mixes. They both passed in the last year, one a few months ago, so I began looking for a new pup. I adopted an 8-month-old pitty puppy and oh. My. Gosh.

WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME they’re the best dogs in the world?! He is the sweetest, snuggliest, friendliest, happiest, easiest puppy in the world. I’m obsessed with him. My heart dog passed a few months ago and I never thought I’d love a dog like that again. I’ll always hold a piece of my old girl in my heart, but this guy has healed me in every way.

I will forever advocate for pittys. I always loved them as a breed and never had fear or anxiety around them, but oh my goodness, I will be their loudest advocate and biggest fan. I’m so thankful he found us.

Thank you all for listening 😂

Edit: thank you all for the love and support!!! I’m so happy to be part of this community! He is officially 1/3 American pitbull, 1/3 American staffy, and 1/3 all sorts of things (including 5% chihuahua lol). He’s on Instagram as boudinithebully :)

Adventures I Now Know

I now know what your gray little face will look like.
Well… it won’t be little.
But it will always be little to me.
I don’t know if I’m simply predisposed to grieve futures that haven’t happened yet.
Maybe I’ve done that with people, too.
Maybe I’ve mourned lives without those I thought would always be here.
When you lay your head on my lap, or curl up on my belly, and give me little kisses across my face, I get flashes of the future.
I see your gray face.
I never realized it might turn gray so softly because your fur is already so light.
The thought makes me sad.
But then I remember the only moment we truly have is this one.
So I’ll give you every adventure I can.
Every walk.
Every cuddle.
Every car ride.
Every silly moment that makes your tail wag.
And to the future you…
I can’t wait to see your gray face.
Because when that day comes, it will mean you’ve lived.
You’ve loved.
You’ve been loved.
And we’ve been lucky enough to grow old together.

Rescue My Best Companions Ever!!

Hey y’all! I wanted to come on here and tell my story of rescuing my two pit bulls who have absolutely changed my life.

Maurice the white one I rescued from this very platform! I got a transport and they traveled from Florida and me and my family met them in Georgia. When I tell you this dog knew he was home he jumped right into our car and laid down. We brought him home and he took over our recliner and if anyone sat in it he’d bark until you got up lol. He was 3 when we got him and now he’s 6. He is a Velcro baby and he follows me everywhere I go! As you see he loves looking out our window as well with his side kick!

Poppa the brown one we rescued him from this platform as well and the forms were about rescuing dogs btw. But he comes from California and the networker raised the money to transport him out here. When we got poppa it was very hard bc he came with a scar on his head and he was very timid. He also showed he had a lot a lot of anxiety as well. We figured that he went through some abuse because the way he responded to things. We gave Poppa all the love, and kisses. He really got close to Maurice and they instantly became brothers!

They are both happy dogs and tails wag and farts are let out left and right!! They definitely fit in lol. They are very protective over our family and they give the best hugs and kisses! They definitely bring me comfort for someone who deals with mental health.

I recently lost my baby girl Bubbles who was 11 years old the day after my birthday. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with. Our pits grieved which we all did and it’s lonely in the house without her.

BUT! I have my two best friends right here that love me and my family and we love them as well!

Maurice loves to talk with us and wag his tail and when I say “let’s go to bed” he runs and jumps and lays in his spot.

Poppa chases his tail when he doesn’t get his way lol!

When we got them they were skin and bones now now Poppa is 60 lbs and Maurice is 65lbs!

I shared some photos pf my babies so y’all could see them. Sorry this is long. But pitbulls are the best dogs ever!!

I love this sub also!!

Advice What temp do you guys keep the house at for the hippos when you're away during the summer?

In our NC heat wave, Hazel has been struggling, we have to walk before sunrise and at dawn which is fine. But when I'm gone I forgot Google Nest has ECO mode and it lets the house get to 78 while I'm at work.

She seems fine with it, but curious what everyone else leaves the house at for their pittys?

Advice My dog has a high prey drive

Post image

I adopted Petey this past winter, up until him I’d always had basset hounds or basset mixes. My last dog prior to him was a basset-pit mix, and I loved him dearly. I was told his especially sweet, loving demeanor was the pit side, so I felt comfortable adopting a pittie from the shelter.

Petey was abused and mistreated, returned to the shelter twice, emaciated and bald. He was so sad and pitiful. He has issues - reactive to certain people and motorcycles/e-bikes, he’s destroyed a sofa and refuses to go in a crate while I am away. He also was horrible on a leash. I have now paid a lot of money for a trainer, and most of the issues have resolved.

However, something I am very concerned about is his prey drive. So far, he’s killed three groundhogs, a bird, and today I found a disemboweled feral cat in my blackberry patch. He must have killed it in the middle of the night (last two nights he’s been waking me up at 2-3 am to go outside). I am so upset. I no longer bring him around my friend’s small dogs, as while he’s never shown aggression towards them, I don’t want to risk it.

Does anyone have any advice or tips for how to deal with this going forward? I have a six foot fence along the back of my property, and four foot metal fencing around the remainder. Should I get six foot fencing all around? Has anyone ever seen this behavior escalate to aggression towards people? I have never dealt with this behavior before. I love him and want a happy and peaceful home with my dog.

Missing my baby a little extra tonight

Just wanted to share some pictures of my baby. I miss him a lot, especially a little extra right now. He was a menace. Loved to growl at everyone but me and he HATED my little sister haha. I adopted him from the shelter in 2021, he was a blind baby and I remember sharing Arby’s fries with him on the ride home knowing I found my best friend. He used to howl when I sang, he hated anything with wheels and would always attack my motorcycle, he loved car rides and long hikes (we used to do an annual 15 mile hike each summer). He bit his own nails, nursed on blankets (seriously all my blankets have holes in them), loved digging holes, was the fastest blind dog I’ve ever seen (we called him super dog as a joke), swam like a shark, and literally had the most insane, annoying scream bark I’d give anything to hear one last time. This is Gatsby my friends:

Birds nest

Does your Pittie eat everything off the ground?

I’m talking swallowing sticks, pine needles, leaves and grass. Approximately a day or two later he then throws up what looks like a birds nest. It’s too gross to show here but it looks like whole sticks and debris.
