Vital Care

Yet another premier rant post.

My membership was set to renew this week for next year. I had sent an email out a few months ago expressing that I was considering not participating next year because of the decrease in benefits. First annoyance was not being able to stack discounts on product sales. But now seeing the membership price increases and then changing the free food bag perk to 10 bags from 8.

I have one cat enrolled. I sent the email and the associate reassured me that I was actually gaining or maintaining perks not losing. So I decide to give it one more year. However I log in this morning to see in fact I am losing perks as they did cancel the grandfathered perks and now my membership has renewed for the year. I am frustrated and ranting lol but that was my last straw. Disappointed that corporate greed ruined what was a great program when I enrolled 5 years ago!

Stupid dm

On vacation for the last 18 days came back today to the dm trying to write me up for 2 failed animal walks last week and no animal walk sign offs for all 18 days while I was on vacation. The gm, asm and 2 key holders non took any responsibility for anything. Once I said I was on vacation and just came back today their tone changed and wrote up every other employee on the floor.

"Reptile" mini habitats have arrived

I can only really see invertebrates being housed in these, and the Zilla micro habitats are larger than these mini ones anyway. Those are recommended for tarantulas, hermits, mantids, etc. These? No clue what they expect to cram in them (2.5g tank for scale)

DM for Fontana

Brittany Can explain how you terminate your #1 GSL over an honest mistake in 11years of her employment with Petco, yet continue to keep the red headed employee who is verbally abusive—not only toward pets, but also toward coworkers—and does it repeatedly, not by accident?
It really makes it seem like removing the GSL was the goal all along. At this point, it feels more like retaliation than accountability. It’s sad, and it sends a clear message that the concerns raised by us employees and customers don’t really matter.

Hi! I’m going in to Vetco for a shadowing day/to meet the team as a vet assistant. Should I go in wearing scrubs or more of a business attire? Thanks!

Number of pallets

Anyone have any insight as to why the warehouse csnt get something as simple as how many pallets they are sending correct? Paperwork will say 9. Pet connect will say 14. Actual number is something random. Every single week. Why is it so hard to just count? Unless I am missing how this actually works.

I'm sorry if this whole paragraph sounds so stupid but im broke and idk what to do with my cat and she passed whatever she has to my other cat, im under mad stress, could someone help. 😭

Horrible Vetco Experience - Advice?

I'm a first-time kitten owner looking for advice because I'm honestly not sure what to do after a very concerning Vetco Total Care appointment.

I rescued two feral kittens several weeks ago and signed up for Petco Perks Premiere because they needed all of their initial veterinary care. Their first Vetco appointment went great, though they were diagnosed with roundworms, giardia, and coccidia. They completed treatment, and their fecal retest came back negative. The staff at that first visit handled them calmly and professionally, even though one kitten is very shy and scared around strangers. I got a lot of great advice with feeding because one kitten was underweight and one was almost underweight, likely due to the parasites.

Yesterday's second appointment was a completely different experience.

We waited for long periods in a loud exam room (with fur on the table) between the Petco and Vetco entrances while my kittens became increasingly stressed. The already fearful kitten just freezes and hides if handled calmly, but the technician struggled to get him out of his carrier, stared directly at him while reaching toward his face until he hissed, and eventually dumped him onto the table instead of gently lifting him out with his blanket like the previous staff had done.

When the veterinarian finally came in, they never introduced themselves or really performed what I'd consider a normal exam. They listened to each kitten's heart, gave dewormer and vaccines, but didn't check their eyes, ears, mouth/teeth, body condition, temperature, or discuss the cough video I'd brought to ask about.

The most concerning part was the vaccine administration. One kitten spilled a noticeable amount of dewormer because the vet wasn't watching while administering it. A syringe was dropped on the floor (they got a replacement), another injection appeared to spill partially onto her fur and the exam table, and so she had to be injected a second time with that one because so much seemed to miss. Even the technician pointed out that the vaccine was on the table. Nobody really explained whether the kitten actually received the proper doses.

By the end I was so overwhelmed that I forgot most of the questions I'd come to ask. The only thing I managed to ask was whether I should look for any side effects from the vaccines "no, kittens don't really react to these" (...) and about when they should be spayed/neutered, and I was told 6-9 months, even though I've read many veterinarians recommend around 4-5 months before sexual maturity. Idk if this person had any idea what they were doing and seemed half out of it and so awkward in general, like they just found themselves here.

I left feeling really shaken and sat in my car crying because I wasn't sure if I had just witnessed an unusually bad appointment, should be worried about my kittens, or if I'm overreacting. I have been closely monitoring for any weird side effects in the poorly injected kitten especially and she's been sleepy/lethargic vs her brother who is seemingly the same as usual. I brought her food to her window perch that evening when she is normally jumping at the door and she did slowly eat most of it. She will make her way to the litter box, eat, drink, and play lightly/observe, but wants to rest a lot and is moving more slowly than usual (I read this seems normal).

My questions are:

  1. Should I be concerned that my kitten may not have received full vaccine or dewormer doses? Or the injection sites in general?

  2. Would you continue care at this location, ask to never see that veterinarian again, or find a completely different clinic?

  3. If this happened to you, would you contact Vetco management to report the appointment, and how do you even do that?

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble unnecessarily. I just want to make sure my kittens receive proper care, and after yesterday I honestly don't know whether I can trust that they did or how to even handle this. I have my third appointment for them set for 3 weeks ahead right now.

cockroaches

Anyone else’s store finding roaches in their backroom or in the store in general? I’ve found a few in the back room and it’s starting to disgust me. i’ve also started to find little baby roach looking bugs on our big dog pallets when working them on truck day. Is there anything i can do? when speaking to managers about it they kinda just laughed it off and said it’s “in season for roaches”… i am the one who works the dog pallets so i don’t want to be tracking them home whatsoever.

Point Expiration?

I’m checking on an order I placed the other night and saw that I had 0 points. I thought it was odd so I looked closer and saw that the points I earned just a couple weeks ago were now expired. Is this a bug? Or did I miss an change in their terms?

Did Petco points change?

I am a frequent Petco shopper as it is the only pet store in my area, and noticed they changed the memberships a few weeks back but I thought nothing of it until today. I typically would get a $5 off every like third trip due to how much I spend on my guys (2 cats and a dog) but haven’t gotten any $5 off reward since the membership stuff switched over. Is it not required to spend more to get a $5 off reward?

Do better Petco

During my time there, I witnessed a severe lack of basic knowledge among management regarding the fundamental differences between saltwater and freshwater environments. I was lectured by a manager who stated, "They are just fish and who cares if they die." This individual attempted to sell a saltwater fish for an uncycled tank and tried to sell freshwater salt for a saltwater setup.

Furthermore, the store regularly introduced new fish into tanks that were actively infected with ich. These practices directly contradict Petco's stated value that animals come first.

Corporate policies are failing these animals. I cannot mentally align myself with an organization that does not uphold its basic ethical responsibilities toward animal care. Petco must improve its training and standards if it wishes to retain employees who care about animal welfare.

I don't understand how some customers are alive with the most ridiculous questions.

Example :

customer - will this fit my cat?

Employee - I'm not sure , I don't know how big your cat is

Customer- oh he is an average sized cat

Employee - your average might be different than my average, cats are all different sizes. I don't know if it will fit

Customer- so let me show you a picture

-_-

Please Just Hire Me (Rant)

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have been basically begging the salon lead at this point to just hire me. I worked as a junior groomer for almost 3 months but had to move due to financial issues. I called this PetCo in advance to see about getting transferred and I can't due to not being an employee for at least 90 days. So I get to my new place and apply, I talk to the salon lead and she says that they're on a hiring freeze. I'm like "ok cool, when will you guys start hiring again?". She says in about two weeks (due to holidays at the time). I leave and call back later and she tells me that I am on top of the list and that when the freeze ends, she'll get me an interview. Next day I get the first rejection, I'm like "Ok then I'll try another position". Not even a day after I submit it, I get another rejection. The one that has me so pressed though is this most recent rejection, I finally got the interview and everything was going well, then she said she had other interviewees for the position but she would call me. A month later I open this to see what was taking so long. Sorry for the long rant but I love this job and I'd do anything to be able to get the position atp.

(Summary): I love working at PetCo, please take me back. T.T

Premier issue with guest

Yesterday I had a guest who’s been a member for at least a year. He came in last week and showed me he didn’t get his premier discounts. He came in, showed me he was in fact still being charged. I made the adjustment to reflect it. I called customer service on his behalf while he was next door for an appointment. They told me they could see he’s still an active member. That shows it was a POS issue. For some reason when we switched to the new system. It completely messed up. I was told to talk contact IT. I had to repeat myself about 5 times. I was then transferred to customer service again. This time they said they can see where he is a part of it and isn’t. The guest decided to cancel his membership so I had to be transferred again. It took an hour and 18 minutes. This is the most ridiculous thing

Petco Grooming System

Why does petco grooming have the most inefficient, every-man-for-themselves type of system? I probably waste 40-60 minutes per day dealing with reception bs because we there is no receptionist and petco allows walk ins. iPass is a complete joke. It’s wildly overcomplicated and makes checking in/out unnecessarily complex and time consuming.

Petco has the slowest system I have ever worked with in my entire career. We have computers from the early 2000s. The company will upgrade the software but not the hardware resulting in insane delays.

There are not enough tubs, kennels, or dryers for all the groomers who are expected to complete a minimum daily quota, resulting in chaos, stress, and very long appointment times for clients.

The pay is absolutely abysmal. Junior groomers are paid minimum wage and are expected to take on the largest dogs often grooming 4-6 large breeds per day. The grunt work is atrocious for the pay and it’s understandable why the turnover rate is so high.

It feels like the company is setting up groomers for failure. Until they revamp the entire system, the grooming salon will continuously struggle and there will be a revolving door of people coming and going, especially the junior pet stylists who get the short end of the stick.
