AND he wrote new original music for it!! There's a song called "Suicidal Jesus" that is an absolute bop.

listen to the movies

I’ve been collecting records (yes, vinyl 😄) since I was about 15 years old.

It started with going to concerts and buying albums afterwards, and eventually turned into spending hours digging through crates in record stores. While I mostly picked records from my favorite genres — hip hop and rock — there was always one other section that pulled me in: movie soundtracks.

For me, soundtracks were always more than “music from movies”. They became a way to discover artists, genres and songs I probably would have never listened to otherwise. And once you’ve seen the movie, the music carries the emotion of those scenes forever.

I still remember listening to the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction for the first time. It blew me away.

As you all know, a great soundtrack can completely change the feeling of a movie. It can create tension, nostalgia, melancholy, energy — sometimes it becomes even more memorable than the movie itself.

So over the last couple of weeks, I built a place to honor them:

listentomovies.com

It’s a place to browse and discover iconic movie soundtracks, scores and hidden gems. There’s already a growing collection online, and I’ll keep adding more over the next weeks.

It's still early and I would love to hear your feedback!

Since I think you guys know your soundtracks, this might be something you like: https://listentomovies.com/quiz

Did anyone else notice that Overture, Fletcher’s Song in Club, and Dismissed share the same core motif?

I think I finally figured out why these three tracks feel so connected.
I’m not talking about the exact notes, but the interval structure of the main phrase.
At these timestamps:
• Overture – around 0:06
• Fletcher’s Song in Club – around 0:05
• Dismissed – around 0:17
I hear essentially the same melodic motif, just transformed each time. Overture presents it in a bright, energetic, almost “city life” big-band setting. Fletcher’s Song in Club slows it down and turns it into a quiet late-night jazz trio feel. Dismissed sounds like the same idea again, but darker and more emotional, almost as if it’s been reharmonized into a minor color.
The rhythm, phrase shape, and interval relationships feel too similar to be accidental. It seems like Justin Hurwitz reused a single core motif across these tracks to tie Andrew’s emotional journey together.
Am I hearing a real leitmotif here, or am I connecting patterns that aren’t actually intentional?

On July 8th, 1958, The first RIAA gold album award was awarded to the cast album to the film soundtrack of “Oklahoma!”. The soundtrack is based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. It featured tracks sung by Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones and other cast members.

What does the Batman Begins score offer over Dark Knight or Rises?

I listened to all three at some point, and didn't save a single track from the first film.

To me it feels like everything in the first film is done better or otherwise expanded in the following two.

Batman Begins might warrant another listen from me as it's been several years, but I'm wondering: what draws you to this score over the other two?

Toy Story 2's Original Soundtrack has a song called Jessie's in Trouble and this part feels oddly familiar

Glad to see I'm not the only one but if you go to the song on YouTube - https://youtu.be/NgtIHy67Uwo?si=h6oNCmjtQiRBJrV_&t=26, at 0:26 there's a sudden shift and it feels like the orchestral version of some upbeat country song? It's also being replayed by a lot of people. Does anyone know if it's actually a song or just a part of Randy Newman's composition

The Architecture of Growth | Increscendo Motivational Progression

A minimalist musical experiment based on the idea of "From Less to More."

Starting with a simple motif, the composition gradually expands through layering, development and continuous increscendo until reaching its final climax.

Would love to hear your feedback.
