Off-Topic The mobile bike shop

I wanted to build a shop but I'm a college student and have to move too much so I decided to do a more portable option

All in it's only about 42 pounds so while it's definitely not a EDC bag, but it's light enough to be easily thrown in my car.

Now I just need some friends who need their bikes fixed so I can use it

I'd love to gets y'all input on what I should add or remove, while I've worked in a bike shop I'm still new to the home shop stuff

Bike Picture/NBD NBD Pivot Trailcat LT

After 2 years of looking, demo’ing and saving, I finally pulled the trigger on a Pivot Trailcat LT. At first I was going to go for the higher Kashima equipped AXS GX model, but I suck at technology, and thought there was about a 5% chance I could notice a performance improvement with the better specs. There is a chance I’ll add the lower speed damper to the suspension in time, but for now I’m very happy. I hope to post a review and summary of my demo’s, first ride and reasoning.

Question Did you see me get attacked at the top of the Iron Grate Trail?

At approx. 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, while preparing to walk my Husky down the Iron Grate Trail in Pittsburgh's Frick Park, I was attacked by a large, off-leash, mixed breed dog in the parking area on English Lane, sustaining a major injury to my lower leg. If you were among the bikers passing nearby who witnessed any aspect of this altercation, please let me know!

Progression Birthday Ride Crash

Turning 45 never felt so good. Pretty sure I tore my rotator cuff as it feels the same it did the last time I tore it in a similar crash. Im currently sitting here enjoying a margarita while having ice packs work their magic on my shoulder, hip, and knee. I’ll definitely be going into the clinic tomorrow.

All in all though I’m not too worse for the wear. Still biked 8 more miles after this. Riding it feels “fine” unless I need to pull up on my bars. I’ve been mountain biking since I was 13 too and so far have only broken my tibia plateau (hairline crack), but I have had several soft tissue injuries and plenty of stitches over the years.

Question Enduro Race Bike recommendations

Hey all! I’m looking at getting back into enduro racing not this summer but the next. I rode/raced a lot but honestly lost some love for it and just took a couple years off to lift weights/chase other aspirations. I’ve been getting that itch again recently and am looking at building up a race bike for next year. I largely ride and race in the PNW and have a history of cracking/snapping frames. I really do not care about weight or “fun factor” as far as I’m concerned fast is fun. Any recommendations on durable, fast, enduro bikes?

Question SRAM Sintered vs Organic

I keep reading that Sintered/Metallic/Semi-metallic pads are stronger, have more initial bite, etc than organic.

My experience this year, after switching to sintered w/ my Maven brakes, is that the sintered pads feel less strong, less initial bite, and generally weaker than the organics.

When I installed them, I swapped to a new copy of the same rotor (220mm HS2), bedded them on a long mountain road per the instructions, and have used them for a dozen or so park days since then.

I swapped because I liked the idea of a sharper bite, and also of a bit less concern about contamination.

What's your experience with them? Trying to suss out whether I did something wrong in my setup, or if this does align with other people's experience - especially on the compounds SRAM uses.

Question Uplift and good trails around lake Garda.

Post image
48 Upvotes

Morning guys, does anyone have any tips for good riding around lake Garda. I'm staying at euro camps near peschiera del Garda. Which I know isn't ideal but I will have my car with me.

I seen the obvious ones and will definitely be doing the 601 , coast and the other around alto Garda as torbole is about 50mins drive. .

Are there any uplift bike parks or other spots. I should ride ?

Bonus for any routes that get me into the mountains with out the car 👌

Looks like I might have my work cutout on the top of the 601. 🤣🤣

Thanks

Question Changing out bike parts

This is a question ive been thinking about for a long time, but never really done much research on. Could you in theory combine enduro/DH parts with XC/trail parts to find a good balance at an all mountain bike? For example, take a light weight mid travel XC bike, maybe 140/130 or 130/120 and add enduro tires and heavier parts to increase downhill performance?

Or on the other hand, a long travel bike with lighter parts to make climbing more reasonable?

Im sure this has all be done before, and i bet its fairly common to use downhill parts on a xc frame, but what's the actual practicality here?

I could just be making stuff up, but id love some actual input, because I'm considering enduro tires on my xc bike to make it more of an all-rounderv because I only have 1 bike.

Question Vail, CO - Non Lift Access Rides

Hello!

I’ll be staying in lions head soon and I’m having a hard time on mtb project seeing what trails are downhill only. Are there good rides I can do from lionshead without taking the lift up? I’ll have smaller windows to ride 1-2 hours early in the morning. I have skiied there 100 times but never biked and would love some recommendations. I’m a solid rider, ride in CO foothills 2-3 times a week. Thank you!

Question Lower offset fitment square taper crankset

Post image
1 Upvotes

Anyone have any suggestions for a 1X square taper crankset that sets the chainring closer to the centerline on a bike?

I tried using some budget Meroca cranks from Amazon and while the cranks are nice and it doesn't drop my chain, it pushes my chainline super far out and I have to run spacers and extended chainring bolts to center my chain to my gears.

I just picked up an Ozark Trail FS2 Slalom for cheap but the guy I bought it from cross threaded a pedal and stripped a crank arm. However, I'm having the same issue with my Framed Rendal hardtail.

The factory crank is a cheap Prowheel MD07-30T but that doesn't have a great chainring and drops the chain on hard impacts.
