New to MTGO looking to play Pauper... Is it really this expensive?

I have 6 meta Pauper decks I run irl that in total I've spent maybe $140 TOTAL and I'm looking to practice these decks regularly for potential tournament runs. From what I've researched it's cheapest to buy commander precons and resell them to goat for tix. Doing so would still put ONE DECK, my main deck (Golgari Gardens) at darn near $120 for the deck... Are we serious? Or am I missing something?

Theres any way to make infinite combos easier on mtgo? Theres some dev plan to do it?

I personally just play vintage cube mtgo and a lot of times when I have an infinte combo win like zirda/gadgeteer/monolith or the new welder/cam it takes a lot of clicks and I time out sometimes even with the deterministic win. Its so annoying to click a hundred times to do something I could just say im doing in paper. thoughts on this?

Rant: MOXFIELD IS GARBAGE! It is a bloated, broken UX nightmare and you’re all gaslighting yourselves into liking it

I need to understand if the MTG community is suffering from collective stockholm syndrome, because Moxfield is hands-down the most worthless piece of vaporware masquerading as a "premier" platform.

People call this the gold standard? It’s a glorified Excel sheet with a search bar that requires a PhD in typing just to find a basic island.

Calling Moxfield a premier deck builder is like calling Reddit a premier search engine. It’s an absolute joke. And before some pedantic nerd in the comments rushes to type out *“Uhm, actually, Reddit isn’t a search engine,”*congratulations—you just stumbled face-first into the entire point. It’s a completely dysfunctional tool for the job you're trying to force it to do.

The entire site is fundamentally broken. They let you "upload your collection," which does absolutely nothing. The "Search Only My Collection" button in the deckbuilder is a literal placebo. It does nothing. It just sits there, laughing at you while you are forced to manually type the exact punctuation of a card name and then scroll through 45 identical printings of cardboard you already told the database you own. It completely defeats the entire purpose of a digital binder. If I still have to memorize my physical inventory just to use your digital tool, your tool is garbage.

It is worse than useless. It is slower, clunkier, and more frustrating than just throwing 100 physical cards onto a kitchen table.

The fact that this is considered the "best" the community has to offer is embarrassing. It’s an over-engineered, anti-user tech project built by people who clearly understand coding but have never actually sat down to organically build a deck from a real card pool. ManaBox and Deckbox actually respect a user’s time and inventory. Moxfield is just a flashy, hollow hype-train. Change my mind.

I dare any Moxfield defender to prove me wrong right now.

Here is the challenge: Open a blank deck, search for exactly 5 specific cards you already have logged in your collection, select the exact printings you own, and insert them into that deck. Do it without using pre-saved text lists.

You have 3 minutes.

You can't do it. You’ll spend the entire time fighting the search bar, guessing punctuation, and scrolling through 45 different editions of the same card while that useless "Search Only My Collection" button does absolutely nothing to help you. It is a completely broken user flow. Go ahead, try it and tell me how "intuitive" this garbage site is.

Doom or Vroom? | Legacy Vroomsday MTG

Continuing my testing of The Fantasticar this week with some Vroomsday! Let's see if the car slots into one of the most complicated decks in the format and can be a "simple" alternative to the complex piles this deck is known for and a back up for when I inevitably mess up my piles. I've been doing a ton of testing with the car in various shells, but this one is a whole package. Selection, protection, disruptions, and a combo that can win the game out of nowhere! Can I piece it all together, or crumble to the complexity?

As always thanks for watching and any feedback. If you liked the video please consider dropping a like and a comment, and be sure to sub to the channel to know when my videos go live.

Do not open treasure chests rn

Howdy y'all! Just a random thing I looked up after receiving another worthless Marvel card in my treasure chest - that set price is laughably in the toilet (20 tix!!! lowest I've ever seen) because it can't be redeemed. There seem to be a lot of MSH cards in the treasure chests so their value goes down with it.

EDIT: Goatbots' treasure chest page now says that chests are expected to go up in value soon!

New Player

Hey all! I’ve been an Arena player for pretty much my whole magic career, and I recently tried out MTGO. I liked my first few games, using the Gauntlet tokens for the new player games. In those events however, the queue times were somewhat outrageous. I sort of understood why, because the player base doesn’t typically play in the new player events. I figured I’d try to join an event that seemed popular and something that wouldn’t seem like it’d have a long queue time. So I joined the Limited Challenge today that was supposed to start 20 minutes ago. The event can’t start until there are 32 people, and the 12 people that were in started dropping out of the event, now we’re down to just 4 people. Am I just joining the wrong events? I don’t have the card base to do anything in the constructed category yet. I really just wanna join events that have a somewhat large play group, something limited so I don’t have to buy a whole bunch of cards right now. Any advice would be helpful.

MTGO gets slower and slower and slower over time no matter how many caches clear or clean installations I do

I've got a 10 year old laptop with SSD and Nvidia card which isn't great, but it should be more than capable of running some stupid program like this.

I've made sure all my drivers and latop settings are the most up to date they can possible be, but MTGO just gets slower and slower as the years go on.

It's becoming almost unplayable, every action is noticeably slower than my opponents', searching my collection (of only 2000 cards) is insanely slow, and searching for cards to buy in a tradebot is a complete joke. 30+ second wait between typing a card name and pressing search, to it actually appearing.

When I first open the client, there's about 2 minutes of freezes before it becomes usable too.

Any ideas? I've followed all the usual troubleshooting, like deleting 2.0 app files, clearing the cache, clean installation etc.

Online Digital One Copy?

Can someone please explain to me like I'm 5 years old why some cards you can buy 4 copys to play and some cards you can only buy one? I been buying digital cards on cardhoarder for magic online and just realized I can buy one copy in stock of a card on some cards? Like for example i can buy 1 out of 4 amd some 4 out of 4. So when i see one copy availible to buy How is this possible if its digital and they can have millions and billions of copies? If i buy there only copy for example how hard is it for cardhoarder for example to just copy past another one or where are they getting them. It's not physical and cards are different prices just trying to figure out the deal behind this. I think it's freaking amazing just want to understand more how this is a thing.

Whos running MTGO on Linux?

I've played around with a couple of tutorials to try and get it up and running, but always seem to hit a wall that I can't get past. If anyone out theres running it, how are you doing it? Lutris, VM, Wine?

I'm on Zorin, which is based on Ubuntu, so it shouldn't be this hard to get up and running

Solution: Best way to play from Mac

Hey all.

I’ve posted and I’ve seen others post for a long time about the best way to play from a Mac.

I’ve tried everything. I bought a shitty windows laptop that I hated, I did parallels on an m2 Mac mini and MacBook Air. I tried and failed the docker setup on apple silicon.

I have finally found my mtgo end game as a person who does not want to have a windows computer on my desk or a windows laptop just for this.

This is a technical solution, but it is working AMAZING. Best experience I’ve ever had with mtgo.

It seems like the old Intel Macs are losing support from Apple soon. It’s been like 6 years so it makes sense.

So I have an old 2018 Mac mini with like an i5 and 32gb ram and 256g hard drive.

I wiped that from my Apple account and did a total fresh install. With that, I set up boot camp and had it install windows. This machine runs mtgo very well, despite being 8 years old or so. Like extremely well compared to a new shitty laptop or parallels emulation.

So then I would still have the same problem, right?

Here’s the key thing: Use an IPKVM. I have a Pi KVM but there are a TON of IP based KVM options now.

Hook it up to the new Mac-mini-which-runs-windows and you’re all set. You can now play mtgo from an iPad, Mac mini, MacBook. If you have a vpn to your home network, you can play from a hotel, a coffee shop, or even from your phone (I do not recommend as the UI is terrible for that).

The key thing here really is the IP KVM and the dedicated mtgo machine.

If you’re a Mac user I highly recommend this approach. It’s a great way to reuse old hardware that is about to get put out to pasture.

What's the best online platform to learn mtg for free ?

Sorry if it isn't the right sub xD.

My best friend wants to learn MtG to surprise his GF and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of free clients where we can play online for free.

I play paper MtG (Mostly proxies) and a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh. For Ygo, we have official client (master duel, but takes a lot of grind and time to craft a deck), Duellingbook, which is a website where all actions are manual (no help and we can make mistakes) and Ygo Omega, a software like master duel, but free and where all actions are automatized, which is great to learn what we can and cannot do, and what I'm looking for.

Do you have equivalents ? And sorry for bad english.

Dr Who Through the Omenpaths When?

It feels kind of crazy that we still can't utilize anything from the Dr Who decks in any capacity in MTGO.

I need Cyberman Squadron. I need Cybermat.

I don't give a shit about the art or names or anything...you can call them turd 1 and turd 2 with no art for all I care...but surely we could have access to these cards in some capacity by now.

Rant over.
