Just watched the special last night. Yes OK it's not vintage Louis, but he still makes me laugh out loud in an easy way no other living comedian can. If you weren't aware of how great he's been in the past, this special would still be better than many other comedians currently at their peak.

Despite constantly making references to how old he is, Louis is only 58 - not really all that old. He shouldn't be running out of steam just yet. George Carlin was absolutely blistering right into his late 60s. I think we could see another truly great special from Louis before his time is up.

I only thought of baldness as a defect and it’s interesting how it’s a distinct aesthetic for Louis, making him look like some guru as he gets older - what do you think the role of baldness has been for his career and status?

For me, the two kind of seem to be in a complementary relationship in terms of non-linear comedy: Louis doesn’t have the meta-comedic, audience-pranking aspect of Norm, while Norm lacks the Carlinness or dark edginess of Louis - any perfect third options that combine the strengths of both?

It’s a fun agonizing question and I’d choose Louis at the end of the day, because I appreciate that unique dark chaotic universe that no other managed to invite us into: it’s like horror and humor intertwined at the same time, and I think it is in this sense a comedian can be a philosopher, not by delivering sermons but by materially enacting some dimension.

How about you and why?

Listened this morning, funniest Louie pod I've heard in a long time. Some great Pootie Tang talk in the last 30 mins too. 11am premier

I just watched the new Netflix special and I sadly did not enjoy it. I am disappointed because I really wanted to like it. I felt the material was crude and coarse. There was no natural flow to it, he jumped around to some many different subjects, each segment not really connected. The underlying vibe was vulgarity. I guess I am a fan of his older material, and will re watch his older work.

I only just finished watching it. I do remember reading a comment somewhere on reddit that said that Louie touches on stuff from the past that led to his cancellation. that comment described it as him being more open and honest about it than he has ever been. that description piqued my interest.

but I was not prepared for the extent of that honesty. he was so vulnerable and raw. and both men were tearing up at various points. what an amazing episode that was. listening to him talk about his experience, his complex feelings on the whole experience, how it has changed him for the better, etc. was awe-inspiring. Louie is such a thoughtful, wonderful human being. one of the few people in the public eye whom I admire.
