Announcement Reminder: Small animals only

Hey r/littlebuddies members and new folks joining in! As a reminder, this sub is for small animals only. It was created to give love to all the little buddies out there who may not get as much recognition as cats and dogs. That being said, while they are cute, cats and dogs are still not allowed on r/littlebuddies. Thank you for your understanding!

A/B test

Hey everyone 🐾

Ā

I’ve been going down a bit of a rabbit hole with ferret hammocks lately and noticed something interesting, people seem pretty split on what actually matters most.

Ā

So I’m curious about your real experience:

If you had to choose just ONE:

A) A hammock that feels really safe and reliable
(no loose threads, strong straps, keeps its shape, no worries while your ferret is inside)

B) A hammock that feels super soft and cozy,
but you’re not 100% confident it will stay safe over time

Ā

Which one would you personally go for — and why?

Ā

Even just one sentence helps a lot.

Also curious: what happened with your last hammock?

(Not selling anything, just trying to understand what actually matters in real life šŸ™)

Question New guinea pigs not getting along is this normal dominance behavior?ā€

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice.

I’m a new guinea pig owner. I got my first male about 3 months ago, and everything went great he was friendly, let me hold him, and I could pet him without any problems.

A couple of days ago, I got him a second male because I read that guinea pigs shouldn’t be alone. Since then, things have changed a lot and I’m a bit worried.

The new guinea pig is very scared he mostly stays inside his little house and doesn’t want to come out. Meanwhile, my original guinea pig keeps ā€œpurringā€ (kind of rumbling), chasing him, and bumping into him. The cage has also gotten really messy, and the smell is much stronger than before.

I understand they might be trying to figure out dominance, but I’m not sure what’s normal and what’s not.

Is this behavior normal when introducing two males? How long does this phase usually last, and is there anything I should be doing differently to help them get along?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Wondering what pet to get

Hi so I'm new to owning small pets but I've done a ton of research and know what to do to these but I'm wondering whether to get 2 guinea pigs or a tortoise and I can't decide. Can someone give me pros and cons or just tell me what they prefer? Thanks!

How much bedding would I need exactly for my guinea pigs. That’s the size of the cage. And that’s the bedding I was gonna buy. Is 49.2 enough ? Is 49.2 a big package ? The father of my kids always buys it. So I’m completely lost. lol

I just found out my guinea pigs were mauled to death by a neighbor dog

I just came back for the weekend from college and was told by my mom that my two guinea pigs were mauled to death by a neighbor dog. The day it happened my mom was with me at my college for homecoming day. My dad was at home and left the door open and the dog came in and took the guinea pigs through their cage, killed them, and dragged one of them on my carpet and one on the other side of my house. I am completely heartbroken. They were only 5 years old and their birthday was last week. I am sick to my stomach thinking of their last moments terrified, alone, and in pain. I don’t understand how I will be able to move on from this.
