Matchup Jax Matchup Discussion 2.0 #25: Nasus.
Welcome to the twenty fifth Jax Matchup Discussion!
Let's talk about Jax versus Nasus...
Remember that the idea of this discussion is to find what's the commonly-used way to play a matchup; not only focused on runes and/or items, but mostly on the trade patterns and general difficulty of the matchup, since items and runes may change between seasons, yet -unless a rework happens- a champion's kit doesn't change.
So, you can talk about the runes and items you like to go on a matchup, but what we really want to see is how to play the matchup; if you can play aggressive early game, if you win pre or post level 6, if you should use Leap Strike to engage or disengage, and so on.
If you want, you can give the matchup a difficulty score from 0 to 10 (0 being super easy, 5 being a skill matchup, and 10 being a "you should dodge" card)

League Classic League Classic Release: Jax
This is a new thread for the upcoming League Classic launch. This will be continued to be updated as more information comes out when we have more details. Things may change before and after launch as Riot is open to feedback about changes. Date of release: July 29, 2026
Sources: League of Legends Classic Showmatch, short of Riot Pabro talking about League Classic, League Classic Website, Skinspotlights: Datamined Items + Champions & League of Legends Wiki.
With the upcoming release of League Classic, there were some good nuggets of information dropped during MSI finals League of Legends Classic Showmatch. We'll be playing what is vaguely season 3 (confirmed by Phreak & Pabro) but, with a twist. There are champions with older kits than S3 (THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE JAX as Phreak confirms random dodge will not be returning and specifically mentioned Jax will not have the random dodge tied to his E) & various things from seasons beyond S3, such as the Wight Camp & Trinket vision (added in S4). Also, if you watched the games you'll notice there are skins & animations added in way later seasons, Examples being: Elderwood Karthus & Dawnbringer Vayne skins, which were added in 2023.
For season 3 specifics, Pre season launched on V1.0.0.152 & S3 lasted until V3.13.
From here on forward, I will go over what made Jax stand out in older league compared to modern.
Jax was pretty much the version you remember him as back before the visual rework in V13.20. AGAIN, this is not the Giga broken Jax with the passive dodge mechanic (Phreak did confirm this during showmatch) before version V1.0.0.132. For League classic, we're getting a strange Frankensteined version of Jax. Here's the datamined kit for League Classic (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

- Slower Paced Games & Position in Meta: Back then, games generally took longer due to the natural slow paced feel. This would allow champions to scale more than they have in the past. You might be laughing, and think this doesn't really apply to the Jax you're familiar with in modern league, but no, Jax was the notoriously known Late Game champion in older League. Jax in older league scaled way more than a majority of the cast and has been slowly power crept out of that position as time has moved forward. He does anything, becoming a Jack of All Trades, yet does it all exceptionally well. He can splitpush, teamfight, skirmish, deal a lot of damage, tank, and control objectives. He was even an exceptional answer to shutdown major threats that were present in late game such as Master Yi and ADCs. If he were to be put old Jax on a tier list, i'd say he was at least S tier.
- Runes & Masteries: This is a big one as Runes & Masteries worked a lot differently in old school League of Legends. Every account level you'd unlock a point to use for Runes & Masteries. For Runes, you'd have to buy them with a currency known as "IP" which was earned through playing the game (This is not P2W). There were four kinds of runes, Marks) (Offensive), Seals (Defensive), Glyphs (Magical), & Quintessences (Utility). Personally, I was a big fan of the Hybrid pen marks as it added a noticeable increase in Jax's damage scaling Late Game. Generally though, you'd prefer taking attack damage, attack speed, with armor and magic resist scaling runes (maybe with 1 crit mark for cheese). As for masteries, it was confirmed in the Showmatch we're getting S3 masteries. These would be split up as three different trees (Offensive, Defensive, and Utility). Here is an image of how it would look. With Jax, you'd generally take a 21/9/0 Offensive/Defensive Split.
- Trinity Force: This item was arguably one of the best items in the game period. If you're not building this item for Jax, you're pretty much trolling. Old Trinity is mostly what you're familiar with, except it had crit and ability Power. Here's what was datamined:

- Hybrid Items: The Guinsoo's & Gunblade you're familiar at present will work a lot differently in League Classic. Think of Gunblade as a meatier item than the one on Live League due to giving more healing and a stronger active (Stronger base Dmg and %AP Ratio). Guinsoo's gave 4% Attack Speed & 4 AP per stack at a max of 8 stacks lasting for 8 seconds & a different passive effect: Falling below 50% health grants you 20% bonus attack speed, 10% life steal and 10% spell vamp until you exit combat (30 second cooldown). Guinsoo's was arguably more niche around this timeline, but still wasn't a terrible purchase if you wanted to use it. Gunblade is one of the choices alongside a BOTRK & is definitely an item you really want alongside a Trinity Force in a core Jax build.
- The "Metagolem" build: Trinity, Warmogs, Atma's Frozen Mallet with Merc's was a menacing build. This build scaled your AD based on your health thanks to Atma's passive and was just toxic to play against. This build is notable & will feel similar to the AD bruiser Jax we all know and love.
Closing thoughts: I just really wanted to get a head start & put this out there for anyone who is interested. Old Jax coming back means people who didn't get the opportunity to play him will now have a chance to do so. This is great, not only for new players, but really for anyone who enjoyed the older version of league (like me). Feel free to discuss thoughts and anything else that I may have forgot to mention. As I said, I will continue to update on this post as more information comes out. Please look forward to more!

Champion Pool Question
I want to switch to toplane and think about champion pool.
I am low gold btw.
I want to main Jax as a splitpusher and duelist, to shit on all the filthy yasuos, yones and Master Yis of low elo.
Jax is bad into Tanks and Juggernauts, so second Champion will be Mordekaiser, as he counters both and is pretty strong this patch. This could also be Gwen, as i also like her, she plays similar to jax and is very good into tanks.
Jax and Morde are weak against beeing kited (right?) so i thought about Gragas as the Third pick, as a counter to Teemo, Quinn, kennen, vayne, Aurora. This could also be Malphite.
Do you think this is balanaced or do i have a flaw in my plan here`?

Build Build Question "sustain and penetration"
So i understand That Jax likes AD and HP items, as it makes his R resistances higher and more effective. AD also scales with his passive atkspd.
He also likes AH, as he gets more gapclosers, Stuns and damage.
So his best amplifier items is probably steraks, as the shield synergyses with his R Resistances and all the HP items he builds.
Almost no need for Resistance items.
Ap Builds are only semi good on him apparently, has the amplifier Rabadon leaves him very squishy.
What i almost never see on Jax are sustain items like Omni Boots, BT, or Riftmaker. He also does not go conquerer anymore, as he now prefers LT. Or do you go Grasp and Sunderer and that is enough=?
Why is that? He is high damage and tanky with no inbuild sustain tool, Does not need tank boots desperatly, so why not omni boots?
Also, as a melee he profits 100% from Riftmaker passives, builds a lot of HP for its other passive, uses the AP good, it has AH, and feeds into his steraks, yet no one builds it.
Also, what do you Build when you need Penetration? Terminus, no`?

Discussion Who are the strongest champions Jax could beat canonically?
Picked Jax up recently and he's a ton of fun. I love his personality and voice lines, and was wondering where he really stands in the lore. He seems like he'd be strong from his interactions, but I don't know to what extent.

Build Triforce or Dusk and Dawn
What’s the better item? Let’s assume your team is balanced AD and AP and so is the enemy team, so you’re not forced to go with one or the other.
In jungle btw

Help me! how do i get out this elo on jax
i was 1 win away from gold before i left for holiday
i’m losing the will to live
im bronze 3 now with a smashing mmr of +15 -26
am i cooked chat?
in all honesty i have a great laning phase most games then oh what do you know… i have a 7/0 katrina coming to gank me lvl 5 and she already has item. i dont want to say that its my teammates fault or anything bc i know i can always play better but for once can i please get a jungler that ganks. seems every jungler i get doesnt gank top but the enemy jungler does. i always gank top and then my top always wins. i just dont know how to get out this rank. i know i scale and split push well but whenever i go to split push my team will fight, die, give up obj, then enemy takes like 5 turrets. i just seem to struggle a bit more late with what to actually do per say but my mid game is good and my early game could use some tweaking but its pretty solid at least.
any help is good help and i will not go off this character whatsoever nor uninstall so dont suggest it
thank you in advance!

Discussion jax support low elo?
Hey yall, I got autofilled support from jg, enemy bot was leona and cait, I find that at least low elo, gold/plat it seems to be a great counter to leona sup, leona goes into my adc, i jump onto cait and delete half her health bar, forcing her to gtfo. Was wondering if anyones tried jax sup as well, because it seems funny and pretty fun.

FAQ #5 For Italian Jaxmains, I made a 50+ Minutes video about the Garen matchup!
I know this matchup is agony for a lot of people, but as Rank 1 Garen Palco said to Coach Chippys, it can be actually Jax favored if played correctly, so I decided to investigate it and learn, here I share what I learned after applying it in 5 games (low master elo)

Help me! How to deal with tanks as Jax?
What is the way to deal with tanks that only wants to farm and scale?
Leaving them farm peacefully will make them scale and be a major problem in team fights.
So what is the way to shut them down as Jax?
(Pictures are only example of tanks that can farm without being forced to fight you)

Build AP cookie cutter build?
Hey guys I know the popular ad build is trin into stride/sundered, into zhonya's and then defensive. Is there a kind of cookie cutter ap build with dnd that people go? and also if you go dnd are you forced to go kind of full ap or is building items like botrk/sundered sky still viable with it?

Help me! Help me with my second pick!!
I main Jax and I'm having good results with him in various matchups. As my second pick, I play Fiora when Jax is banned or picked by someone else, but the problem is that she has a very similar playstyle to Jax. In your opinion, what would be a good second pick that complements Jax by covering his weaknesses and worst matchups?
