Seeking information on my great great grandfather’s friend, Rose Hughes - which is her married name. Of course I can’t be of much help in terms of spouse name, nor her surname.

She wrote him many letters after he arrived in America in 1928.

Letters:
In 1929 - she lived at 4 Magheross Terrace, Carrickmacross, Monaghan.
- mentions living with a Mrs. Gormley - who was 76 in 1926.
- mentions a step sister named Alice, age 23, who was to be wed to one of the Smiths of Raferagh, perhaps John.

Of all her cards and letters spanning until 1955 - that was the most revealing as far as information.

I suspect they could have dated, but I’m unsure. Any help would be outstanding. Thank you.

I performed several searches on both RootsIreland and IrishGenealogy for Terence Reeves. I performed searches for so many Reeves I cannot even begin to say. I found a "John" Reeves born on 10 February 1856 to Patrick and Maria Lynch. The birth date matches the DOB information on the death certificate from Ohio the year on the certificate says 1854. The handwritten entry does not look like "John" IMO.

The only other Terence Reeves I could find a record for was one from 1843 to John and Johanna Butler.

Interestingly, the sponsor of the 1856 Terence or John, is Rev. John Reeves and Johanna Butler. I believe, though not certain the parents of Patrick.

Did I just find the "Terence" listed as John at RootsIreland I've been looking for?

Of course the + sign on the baptism is of concern to me, but it could be an "x" which could indicate immigration?

I would welcome your thoughts on this.

I'm looking for definitive information on Terence Reeves. All the information I have found from the U.S. says he was born 10 February 1855. I have been looking for his birth record in Limerick, Ireland and I have not been able to find any Terence Reeves on RootsIreland, Irish Genealogy or Ancestry. I managed to find a Terence born in 21 October 1843. (its the last entry)

Is it possible he was 38 when he married Bridget McNamara who was 17 in 1881? Or is there a possibility his birth sometime in 1856 (54 or 55) was not transcribe or 'lost'?

From this marriage record, his father's name was John. I have identified another John Reeves that could also be Terence's father, but I have yet to find a birth record anywhere for Terence in the Feb of 1850's for the other John.

Any assistance in verifying who Terence's father could be for certain would me most helpful.

Hi from New Zealand. My grandfather was from Belfast. Ive managed to track records via ancestry.com with his siblings, but none of that is helping me find any of their kids or kids kids.

What I have been able to tell is some of his siblings stayed in Northern Ireland and passed away, there some in Belfast.

I dont know much else. If anyone knows a place I may be able to get information or as a long shot be related to me I'd love to find out more about them.

I am trying to build my Irish ancestry and I am finding it exceedingly difficult to gain traction. I have looked on FamilySearch, but the sources are often vague descriptors of the church records with no definitive location for said record. The information is vague and is often lacking additional information.

I am looking for Terence Reeves parents. The best I can do is find a marriage record that lists his father as deceased. I cannot seem to find a birth or baptismal record for Terence.

I have found Terence's death certificate which states his birth as 10 February 1854, although most of the sites has the year as 1855.

Based on Terence's marriage stating John is deceased before 1881, I found a death for a John in 1880 in County Limerick. Wife's name is Kate. The trail for me grows too cold to follow with certainty. I cannot even be sure this John is Terence's father.

I would be grateful if someone could help me find a birth/baptismal record for Terence and/or his parents marriage, birth, death. I'd be grateful to know how to go about tracing these ancestors more readily. Thank you for your time and help.

Can anyone pull a free index screenshot for me? I am looking for the 2005 death index or any marriage index for my great-grandmother. She died in 2005 aged 81 under the married name Fennelly. Her maiden name was Culleton. She was an Irish woman who lived in Manchester in 1947 and moved to London in the 1960s. I need to see her death index or any London marriage index to find her certificate in the persuit of Irish citizenship and confirm if she legally married a Fennelly her name was Mary Anne culleton born 1923 in Wexford enniscorty even a unable to trace record would be fine if not possible I’m just not good at this sort of stuff

I’ve been doing a ton of research on the history of my family, surname Birmingham, and have put together this ancestral pedigree going back 30 generations from England and the founding of Birmingham through Ireland and the Barons of Athenry, to emigration to the US. The document came out pretty great in my opinion. Eventually I plan on applying to become an official Clan of Ireland and pursuing additional research that my father and his cousin began. So, my uncle, nan, grandad, etc was all born in Ireland. I was born in Wales, i call myself Welsh-Irish.

I have an Irish passport and moved to NI.

I was hanging out with friends and a friend invited a new guy i haven't met.

We got onto the conversation about immigrants, and i mentioned my history, saying how I was born in Wales but is also Irish due to my nan. He then said You're a plastic paddy. That took me a little back and I said My family is Irish though. He said it didn't matter as I was born in Wales.

Im looking at him and kinda gesture to the ground like "Im here aren't I? Living here, i have a passport and my family is irish" he shrugged and said not Irish still.

I mentioned that if an person from India came from India, gave birth in England. Are they no longer Indian because suddenly they're born in England? They have their heritage that makes them English-Indian. So by that logic i am still welsh-Irish.

He said that hypothetical person is just English not Indian. And Im not Irish. I just laughed and said Agree to disagree. And we continued as normal. But im sitting here wondering if that's true, and I shouldn't be using Welsh-Irish.

Some of my ancestors had a suspiciously french sounding last name despite residing in Ireland for centuries, so I became super curious about their immigration to Ireland. I got so close to figuring it out due to one of them being baptized in Eustace Street Presbyterian Church (a church connected to French Hugenot refugees) (I think), but then I got stuck being unable to access any records! Does anyone know how I could move forward and hopefully gain access to them? Each site just seems to be one more dead end 😥

I may be putting the wrong dots together here, but I think my Mom’s side of the family fled Ireland after 1798 rebellion. I know they were Presbyterians (because of the Canadian papers) and I 90% sure they were from county down. They came to Ontario, Canada sometime between 1797 and 1805, but I can nail down the exact date.

Does anyone know how many people self exiled or fled to other countries following the rebellion. I know many combatants were sent to Australia, but what about Canada?

This idea sparked in my head because I recently heard that Wolfe Tones was popular in county down.

My ancestor was named Frank Rodgers or maybe Francis according to family, i don't know his wife's name all i know is he lived on arranmore island and had a son named Frank rodgers jr 1839-1879

I'm looking for advice on how to identify my 3rd great-grandparents in East Cork.

So far, I have identified my 2nd great-grandfather through his marriage certificate and death certificate. However, when I searched for his birth record on IrishGenealogy.ie, Ancestry, and the NLI baptism and marriage registers, I found several records with the same name but have no reliable way to confirm whether any of them relate to my family.

The records I currently have are:

• The 1911 Census, where my 2nd great-grandfather and 2nd great-grandmother were living in Ballyroe.
• The 1926 Census, where my 2nd great-grandfather was living in Cloyne after remarrying following the death of my 2nd great-grandmother.
• The marriage certificate of my great-grandparents.
• The marriage certificate of my 2nd great-grandparents.
• My 2nd great-grandfather's death certificate.

In the 1926 Census, my great-grandmother and her brother are listed, and their mother is recorded as deceased.

I cannot ask around locally, as my 2nd great-grandfather was a labourer and appears to have lived in Ballyroe, Cloyne, and later Youghal. my 2nd great-grandfather is buried in Youghal, but my 2nd great grandmother isn't buried there and I don't know where, and I do not know exactly when the family moved to Youghal. Because of this, I have very little local knowledge to work with.

Would anyone be able to recommend a genealogy service, archive, historian, or researcher in East Cork who might be able to help? Any advice on other records I should consult would also be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking at a mid-1800s baptismal record for my in-laws' family and I've come across a confusing record that is, I think, part of the family, but I don't understand what I'm looking at. The baptismal records for a Patrick McDonagh (links here, and here from 1861 in Ballymacward and Clonkeenkerrill, Galway) don't list the mother. Just the father, Thomas.

The confusing part is that later children from (I think) the same father do list the mother. For instance, Joannes (John) in record 555 here lists both parents, Thomas McDonagh and Bridget Green.

For what it's worth, I believe (based on a bunch of evidence I won't bother listing) that this is the family a while later in 1901. The other children show up in the parish baptismal records. And I believe this is Bridget's death.

John is the ancestor, not Patrick, so it's not a big deal, but I'm still confused about the original record. What might be an explanation for the blank space?

Edit: Also, it's not just once for Thomas either. He has a Hubertus from 1863 that also doesn't have a listed mother. https://registers.nli.ie/pages/vtls000632922_037
