Greetings felllow metalheads!
Hopefully this sort of post is allowed. I mentioned METALTRAVELDATABASE.com in a comment recently and got some good responses. Me and a buddy have been working on this site, to help you go to cool places, drink beer, and see ace bands!
MTDB is a website that collects, categorises and reviews metal (and metal adjacent) locations all over the world. Metal bars, record stores, venues, interesting and cool places - We have around 5400 so far, of all kinds in fifty countries (and growing).
The idea is that, next time you head out to a gig, a new country or city ,on holiday, or on tour, or even for business, check in and see what cool places you can check out when you arrive.
We have been wanting to do this since 2020 (turns out a pandemic isn't the best time to launch a travel website!), and had seen a few smaller sites doing some of this, but not as extensively, and we wanted something where people could leave real reviews and show off their local places as well.
We have only just launched, so there may be bugs, bits might not quite work exactly how they should and we know there are plenty of locations missing so we need your help and feedback!
If something is a bit wonky, let us know!
If you know of a cool location that isn't covered, please add it!
If you want to review a place because it's amazing - go right ahead!
I know that every time I'm on vacation, I'm always looking for the nearest metal bar, so hopefully this will help people find them. We'd love to know what you think and hear any suggestions to help make it better. (And if you like it, please spread the word so more people know about the site, use it and grow the locations covered).
Thanks!

Spiral Skies - 2018 - Blues for a Dying Planet - Danse Macabre
Actors of the mournful life charade and all of the madness you portray.
Your masquerade will come to an end. Soon the final curtain will descend.
Kings and Queens, murderers and thieves. Drop the act, and fall into ease.
Come rest in peace.
Join my dark realm in a night parade.
Danse Macabre, twist and turn in our graves.
In flames of red and gold we leap into.
Faces pale and white and lips of blue.
Dead and swingin on the gallows pole.
Dancing though we have grown too old, stiff and cold.
Join my dark realm in a night parade.
Danse Macabre, twist and turn in our graves.
Restless in a casket underground.
Clap and turn the other way around.
Roll the dice, a lottery, and tread the stage of misery.
We all await impending doom, owners of a future tomb.
Rising sun or fading star, you can't resist the reaper's call.
Progeny of wolf or sheep, we all unite in our final sleep.
Our savior reaching out a hand. A serenade in black for all ye damned.
A graveyard jam.

I went last year with a friend and it was great fun - €200 this year for five days of metal... can't really beat that. Who fancies food/beers with us?

Hey guys how are you doing?
Recently I've decided to (try to) do a list of the objectively 100 greatest metal songs of all time, because I've got nothing better to do.
When doing the list, I've thought of 5 main topics when choosing a song:
- Technique: If the melody, harmony, and rhythm work well together, if there is the right amount of tension or complexity for the song's concept, and how well the instruments interact;
- Production: If the mixing and mastering fit the specific subgenre (obviously I wouldn't expect pristine and crystal clear production for a war metal track) and if the work offers an immersive and dynamic experience;
- Creativity: If the music is creative and original, and how well the idea was executed, alongside with an analysis of the lyrics and composition;
- Context: If the song holds at least some relevance and popularity within its subgenre—which is why there are almost no super underground tracks included;
- Quality: Simply, whether the music sounds good or not.
The rules of this list are as follows:
- There are no ballads, only metal songs. The list have 3 power ballads tho (Cemetery Gates, Satellites, Fallen Angel) but I've considered that they have enough heaviness to enter the rank;
- There are a maximum of 3 songs per band, and 1 song per album (If not, the list would've had about 30 opeth songs). The only bands to hit 3 songs were Opeth and Black Sabbath, and the only ones to hit 2 songs were Rainbow, Judas Priest, Bathory, Sepultura, Death, Alice in Chains, Katatonia, Cryptopsy, Meshuggah, Windir and Agalloch;
- I've tried to be the less biased about my personal music taste as possible, to make the list the more objective. But, ofc, as the list was made by me, a little bit of my personal taste might be present;
- The list is in chronological order;
- Songs divided in parts, sections or tablets were counted as one song;
- Out of Curiosity, this is the subgenre distribution of the songs:

Judas Priest - 2008 - Nostradamus I - Prophecy
I am the darkness
Born out of light
I am the force the fire
That burns here tonight
Bringing the future
To all mankind
Guider of life - of death
The dight of the blind
Your future lies within my eyes
What I predict will terrify
I can't control what comes to be
From the past to the present to eternity
I am Nostradamus
Do you you believe
I am Nostradamus
That I conceive
Master of chaos
Anger and rage
I hold the key
My presence will unlock the cage
I am your witness
The one who can tell
Bearing the sword - the shield
To your heaven from hell
As I unfold the mystery
I change the course of history
With premonitions from the void
Will you live, will you die
Will your worlds collide
I am Nostradamus
The hand of fate
I am Nostradamus
With love and hate
Lost in this vortex
The mystery begins
Will you be victim
Saved from your sins
Time is illusion
Trapped in the skies
Destiny's calling
Hear from my eyes
Many years ago a boy was born
A boy with a gift
A gift that would be the envy of all mankind
To see what no other could - great visions
of the future
Or would a curse be bestowed on the boy
The boy whose name was Nostradamus,
damus, damus. Damus, damus, damus
I am Nostradamus
Do not forsake
I am Nostradamus
Your life's at stake
I am Nostradamus
The lightning rod
I am Nostradamus
The voice of God
Celestial comets
Reign towards earth
Alchemy's tempest
Predicting your worth
Pray for deliverance
Escape if you can
For I have borne witness
To the purging of man

This is a map of combining all the terms people use for heavy metal music. Some of it is real, some of it doesn't exist yet.
I don't judge what's good, or metal,
I ask thee, what is the future of metal?

17 years after the inception of djent, metal is deeply fragmented. Is what we got forward are dissonant, melodic, post-, or alt variations of these subgenres?
What do you think about Chaos Metal?

An idea: All possible metal subgenres by word combos (in image. Think death Or black - melodic version, dissonant etc. Some exist, some dont, but thats all what we use to describe the genre) This uses math combinatorics to exhaust all genre names. Each block is a repeating set of microgenres for that subgenre Eventually, the genre hybrids of what exists (both pure like death doom, or unpure like industrial metal) are done. What then for metal? I offer in my music, chaos metal, the synthesis of the biggest extremes left, meshuggah and dsbm. Let me know your thoughts on it. https://youtu.be/JBvKj3CUqtc?si=Yj0NdDvIj0dW1rhk But ask, think would make the genre evolve, whats next for metal?

AS I LAY DYING - 2007 - An Ocean Between Us - The Sound Of Truth
We have all heard what we wanted to hear
"Truth" that sounds right to our ears
But what wisdom is there within us
To live based on the feeling of our hearts
How many times has instinct let us down
Never to be thought through
Never to be questioned
Say what you really mean
When your ambition calls you
For what use is there in praying
If you will only hear what you want to hear?
We speak of fighting to resist this world
But what about the battle within us?
If we have chosen to live against the grain
Then why are we all facing the same way?
There is no difference between us and them
If we all blindly seek truth from sentiments
