Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi broke with convention by calling for a national debate on whether nuclear weapons should play a role in Japan’s defense. “For Japan, it’s a difficult issue to discuss, but one we cannot avoid touching on is nuclear.”

40m looking for some "live like a local" type of recommendations
I've visited enough to do most of the touristy stuff when I was young, but I'm here only to visit family this time so just looking to do my usual weekly routine like I'm home (CA), but in Hiroshima. I can kind of speak conversationally if that makes any difference.
- I was planning on working from the hotel but thought I'd check if there are any chill places with free wifi (besides Starbucks) to work around 5am-2pm. Just work on computer, no meetings. Any parks, libraries, coffee shops or malls?
- Looking at Golds and anytime fitness for visitor passes. Any other recommendations or things to know about these two? Also any tips and general gym etiquette to know here? I brought indoor only shoes but would love to know other gym etiquette here. Can I ask to work in? Running tank and shorts ok?
- Any yakitori or any restaurants that can be on the healthier side? Grilled meats, cooked veggies type of meals that aren't smothered with sauce or cooked in fatty broth.
- Any pubs or bar recommendations to relax end of a work day?
- Any places where I can have a drink with a dj mixing that aren't clubs? Ideally edm, rnb, and hip hop genres.
- I'm looking forward to the new spiderman movie. What's the best movie theater to watch it? Do most theaters offer English with subs or is it mostly dub only? Does Japan do midnight showings or day early showings? Can I get tickets in advance?
Thanks!

Best budget home internet + SIM combination
Hi everyone,
I recently moved to Higashi-Hiroshima (Saijo area) and will be living here for about a year. My apartment already has a 光コンセント (fiber outlet), so fiber internet should be possible.
I'm trying to find the most budget-friendly option for both home internet and a mobile SIM.
My situation:
*I only need around 3 GB of mobile data per month because I'll be on Wi-Fi most of the time.
*I currently use Rakuten Mobile, but the signal inside my apartment is quite poor.
*I'd like to avoid long contracts or high cancellation fees if possible.
What combination would you recommend for someone staying about one year? Also, if my apartment already has a fiber outlet, is it usually possible to activate fiber without additional construction?
I'd really appreciate any recommendations or experiences. Thank you

Trip to Onomichi & Fukuyama: Enjoying Cats, Sweets, and a Port Town
A relaxed girls’ trip Vlog through Onomichi and Tomonoura in Fukuyama, Hiroshima.
In Onomichi, a town known for its slopes and narrow alleyways, we strolled along the famous Cat Alley, visited a cat shrine, and enjoyed adorable cat-themed goods and traditional Japanese sweets.
In Tomonoura, Fukuyama, we walked through a nostalgic port town while taking in the beautiful seaside views. We also enjoyed scenery unique to Fukuyama, known as the “City of Roses,” along with local street food and hands-on experiences.
Kirari Takeuchi, who is from Hiroshima, guides the trip, while Mitsuki Hiraoka discovers these places for the first time and can’t help saying how much fun she’s having.
This Vlog captures their natural conversations and the calm, easygoing atmosphere of Hiroshima.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway in Japan or just want to relax with a peaceful travel Vlog, we hope you enjoy the charm of Onomichi and Tomonoura.
Cast: Kirari Takeuchi, Mitsuki Hiraoka
Locations: Onomichi City, Hiroshima / Tomonoura, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima

Visiting Hiroshima in January (From England)
Hi all,
I'll be visiting Japan for two weeks in January, I plan to spend a good chunk of it in Hiroshima - I'm hopeful of connecting with some locals before I go, that would like to meet up for drinks, food and any cool stuff really.
I'm 33 y/o male, I'll be accompanied by my friend (34 y/o male).
Some of our interests include heavy/rock music and Wrestling. Whether you're a local, or visiting at the same time, I'd love to connect. :)

Calligrapher Hiromi Kouchi is using her art to share a message of peace with the world. Drawing on a wide range of styles, from traditional standard script to avant-garde calligraphy, the 46-year-old third-generation hibakusha creates artworks and gives performances both in Japan and overseas.

Anyone planning to watch the Argentine vs England semi final? Or can suggest a sports bar showing it? I’m England supporter but happy to watch with whoever.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima Tickets
Hello, I am visiting the city and was hoping to go see Sanfrecce Hiroshima on the 8th August. Tickets went on sale at 12pm but I was not able to access the website at that time. I am now looking and no tickets are available.
Does anyone know if they are sold out or whether I would be able to get tickets on the day?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Translated version:

Lopia
First we noticed one in Paecella, now there is one in Alpark. Extremely long lines for what seems like a normal grocery store? Can someone shed some light on what’s worth queueing for at this store?

Getting birth at hospital
Has anyone here who isn’t fluent in Japanese given birth at a public or large hospital in Hiroshima?
Do they provide interpreters or translators?
I currently go to a women’s clinic, but if I want to have a normal vaginal delivery, they require me to bring my own translator. Because of that, I’m considering giving birth at a public hospital instead.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Pre War Photos Found
I recently acquired these from a local auction in California. Two photos are clearly marked as being from studios in Hiroshima. The others aren’t marked but are from the same collection. Is there a way to tell if the unmarked ones are also from Hiroshima?
