Mysore rosewood inlay is one of Karnataka's most celebrated traditional crafts, admired for its elegance and extraordinary attention to detail.

The art flourished under the royal patronage of the Wodeyar dynasty in Mysore over two centuries ago.

Skilled artisans use rich, dark rosewood as the base, creating a striking contrast with lighter inlay materials.

Delicate pieces of ivory (historically), sandalwood, teak, ebony, bone, mother-of-pearl, and now eco-friendly substitutes are painstakingly hand-cut.

Every tiny piece is carved individually and fitted into hand-engraved grooves like an intricate jigsaw puzzle.

The surface is polished repeatedly until the inlay and wood become perfectly flush, creating a seamless finish.

Traditional themes include Hindu deities, royal processions, wildlife, classical dancers, and scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

No two handcrafted panels are exactly alike, making each work a unique collector's piece.

A single large artwork can take weeks or even months to complete, depending on its complexity.

The craft beautifully blends sculpture, painting, and woodworking into a single timeless masterpiece.

Today, Mysore rosewood inlay remains a symbol of Karnataka's artistic heritage, preserving centuries of craftsmanship through the hands of dedicated master artisans.

I have never posted my art but felt very inclined to share. Om Namah Shivaya.

Scary but beautiful

Artist: Debananda Srichandan (15m myself)

Time: 30 hours(approx)

Mediums/style: pencil colours, graphite, charcoal, Mandala

Inspiration/intentions: I had started this idea approximately 4 years ago and had finally found the time, motivation and skill to complete it.

The portions left un-colored are the graphite ones, which are there to show that not everything is colorful in life and the colored, high contrast parts represent the happiness we need to find in the un-happy world.

The mandala is a glimpse of the detailed carvings one would find in the jaganath puri temple.

On the blissful day of rathayatra, may the blessings of Mahaprabhu be with you.

A humble offering from my heart. ❤️

I made this to welcome Krishna in his sacred form as Lord Jagannath , with his siblings Balarama and Subhadra.

I tried constructing their appearance in stylized human form . Every line and every color was my way of expressing gratitude to the Lord. I hope this artwork brings peace, joy, and reminds you that His divine smile is always watching over us.
