Does anyone know a fair price for a 1993 Harley-Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail with 1,028 milage?

My [new] 2016 Softail Deluxe.

Got my license in the spring, and purchased a 2004 sportster 883. Absolutely love the bike, but after putting 1,500 miles on it, I want to part ways with it and get into something bigger. The bike is very slow, especially with my gf on the back, and it’s super uncomfortable when I go on more than an hour trip with it. And it sucks on gas being a 70 mile tank lol. I really would like a bagger, but don’t have bagger money lol. That’s why I need help! Do I purchase something like a used soft tail standard for roughly 8-10 k, and turn it into a little bagger (fairing, saddle bags, 2 up seat, etc) or is it worth buying an older model like a road glide, with some miles on it, (15-25k). Idk how long or what’s a lot of miles on a motorcycle tbh

About 1 month and 20 days ago, I bought a used 2015 Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight from a dealership in San Diego, CA. The motorcycle broke down almost immediately after I left the dealership. I barely made it onto the freeway before it became undrivable.

The next day, the dealership picked it up with a tow truck (which they paid for) and told me they would take care of the repairs at no cost to me. Since then, the bike has been sitting at the dealership for almost two months.

I’ve spoken with the service department, the manager, and other staff multiple times, but I still don’t have my motorcycle back or a firm completion date. As compensation, they’ve offered to cover my first finance payment and give me my first service for free. Since it’s been almost another month without the bike, I’m planning to ask them to cover the second finance payment as well.

At this point, I’m wondering what my options are. I know California’s Lemon Law generally doesn’t apply to a used 2015 motorcycle like this, so I’m not sure where to go from here.

Has anyone dealt with something similar in California? Is there a state agency I should file a complaint with? Should I contact Harley-Davidson corporate, the California DMV, consumer protection, or is it time to speak with an attorney? Would small claims court be an option, or should I be looking at something else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So, this is my first Harley. It’s a ‘97 Fatboy that my uncle gave to me since he’s too old to ride and it was otherwise just sitting. It’s the first bike I ever got a ride on when I was a little kid, so between that and the fact that it was gifted to me, this has a lot of value. My uncle is practically the only person who’s owned it for the entirety of its life with the exception of the original owner who had it briefly but passed away. It’s been meticulously maintained and garaged, but has definitely been ridden a lot. While the odometer reads around 68,500 miles, it has somewhere closer to 300,000 on it (the gauge apparently isn’t water proof and are prone to failure).

ANYWAY, to my issue: I can’t ride the goddamned thing because I can’t get the clutch to disengage and so when I put it in gear, she just rolls forward when the clutch lever is pulled in.

Now, I’m not coming to you all completely clueless. I’m more scratching my head and cursing.

I’m currently sitting at 3/4 turn and have the cable set at roughly 1/8” and when I turn the bike on and put it in gear, it doesn’t drag. When I turn it off, put it in neutral, restart it, and put it back in gear it rolls like I’m giving it throttle despite the clutch lever being pulled all the way in.

Before I go opening the primary all the way up, I’m trying to get a handle on some leads as to what the problem is.

My current theories are:

1. Maybe I need to go a full turn or more. But at what point is that too much? I live in a desert area and ride often. The push rod and clutch cable are brand new. From my understanding, the clutch is also newer.

2. Clutch pack height/thickness. Maybe it has too many plates? Something like that?

3. Incorrect or too much oil. When I first opened the inspection cover, a lot of excess oil came out. Like, so much that it filled half a pan. I don’t have an actual quantity, but it was a lot. Now the oil level sits as prescribed in the service manual. But, what the manual says for this bike versus what’s in the video conflict a bit. What I see is that the oil level is basically at the bottom of the inspection cover opening. It’s also worth noting that my clutch sits differently in the primary than what’s shown in the video. A buddy suggest that the oil might be too thin and I need a thicker one, I’ll have to verify when I get home. My uncle always kept extra oil for it and I’m pretty sure he gave me primary fluid, I just don’t remember the weight.

4. Spring tension? I feel like this is unlikely and would drag me down the rabbit hole of frustration.

Those are my current theories. For added context, this is my third motorcycle. My second one was a full and total rebuild (you can see it in my profile) and I do all of the maintenance on my bikes and while I don’t know everything, I am savvy as far as DIY goes. I think it likely is an issue of me not being familiar with the bike and just need to learn it, but I think this is a point where it would do me good to ask for some advice.

So, yea, there’s my conundrum. Let me know what y’all think.

Long shot: Can anyone identify this Harley?

I’ve been riding for years now, but haven’t purchased any Harley Davidsons in an effort to avoid harder memories; I think I’m ready now.

My father committed suicide in 2006 and I’d love to buy the same year and model of HD to customize my own, drive back to my home town, and shed some grief in the process.

Ideally not wanting to disassemble the engine. Prior owner rattle canned the engine with some heat resistant spray paint including the cooling fins. Its already coming up in certain areas, but in others the paint seems to be holding. Best thoughts on removing the paint?

I've got a great project starter, but she came with no keys. I've taken the ignition to a reliable locksmith that has done good work for me, but he's struggling to find key blanks to make a new set of keys.

Ive learned more about key blanks than Id like lol. The original key was an Ilco x47, Orion ZD15, and zadi ZD2. I've looked online and can't find any of these keys for less than like $10 a piece on ebay, and at least two are needed for keying if I understand correctly.

Anyone know of a good place to get some key blanks that are more affordable? Have a bunch in your back shed you can part with? You know a guy? Let me know.

Bike hasn't been started for a while, and I'm not familiar with Harleys. I changed out the battery on the fob, but I'm trying to deduce if the bike battery is dead, or I'm doing something wrong. I have placed the physical key in as well. Could someone give me the proper steps to starting the bike to make sure I'm not just doing something wrong 😅. Thanks
