I'm looking for a good, active MMO community, and after trying a lot of different games, I've decided I want to give GW2 a real chance.

The biggest challenge for me is that I'm a solo player. None of my friends are interested in MMORPGs. Playing alone isn't a problem at first, but over time it gets lonely. I miss having people to talk to about the game, share experiences with, or just enjoy the journey together.

I currently have around 40 hours in GW2, but I realize I burned myself out by constantly creating new characters and switching classes before I ever took the time to properly learn one. This time I want to commit to a single class and actually experience what the game has to offer.

The one thing I feel is missing is a friendly guild or a few people who wouldn't mind helping out a newer player. I'm not looking to be carried—I just think the game would be much more enjoyable with people to learn from and play alongside.

I know this may come across as controversial, and I'm genuinely trying to do my best for it not to be, but I'm looking for a guild where playing the game and having a laugh is the main (or only?) aim.

I'm a mid (arguably late) 30s gamer from the UK just looking to understand what the hell is going on. I'm about 1200 hours deep, but realistically haven't done much in the game except spend ridiculous time on the character select screen trying to decide what I want to be (for now, I'm sticking to Eng). I think in the past I've done some strikes where I probably spent most of it on the floor, and I've done enough fractals to have a few pieces of ascended with some agony resistance in but not sure on the highest level I've done (will be tier 2 I suspect). I'm interested in trying to get to a point where I'm competent in strikes/fractals, and also quite interested in PvP...probably less so WvW.

I've been looking for a guild for the last few weeks since I've gotten back in to it, and in reality, I'm struggling to find somewhere that suits me. This isn't meant to be rage bait, but in honesty I'm finding it hard to put into words what I mean without it coming across poorly, so please try to understand that as you read the below.

I keep finding guilds where it seems that being sexually atypical or struggling with mental health is almost a pre-requisite, and if not's not a pre-req to get in the guild, it certainly seems to be to be a part of the central clique. I get, and I'm all for, that the majority of guilds in GW2 are "friendly" towards diversity and that's absolutely great; this isn't a plea looking for a guild of bigots. However, I come from a string of games where it would just never get mentioned as a letterhead in a guild advert unless they were specifically a guild where that was an agenda. Think Counter-Strike or something for example; if they advertise an LGBTQ friendly team, that's because they want that to be a specific theme of that said team. Sim racing is another; had a recent battle during an endurance race with a team called "The Gays of the Straights" in their bright pink car adorned with rainbows and unicorns or whatever... cracking banter all around, good racing (despite several accusations of bum touching), but I know it's not a team I'd be joining as they're quite clear about their niche. In past guilds/teams/clans, if someone struggles from mental health issues I know that through the hundreds of hours spent playing games/talking to them, not because it was the first thing they wanted to tell a group of new people they're just meeting in an intro post.

That's different in GW2.. To be clear, I have specifically looked at guilds that don't mention their LGBTQ friendliness in their recruitment post just to try and avoid the kind of groups described below, so this was just a typical "We play the game" recruitment post. I just scrolled through the last few posts on the introduction section of a recruiting guilds' discord that I joined, probably 15-20 posts deep or so; 3 mentioned their atypical gender and/or sexual preferences, 3 separate ones to those brought up about mental health/anxiety/PTSD, and 1 in a rather lengthy introduction post didn't even mention anything at all in relation to the game, their experience or characters, but seem very excited to detail their fibromyalgia, PCOS and EUPD (which I had to google). This doesn't seem unique to this guild either although I accept that this sample size seems slightly higher than some others that I've tried. Co-incidentally, I'm in a few sim racing teams so for good measure just scrolled through probably 50-60 intro posts between 2 of them. Not a single mention in any post of gender, sexual preference, mental health, illness...every post was just about their love of racing, gaming, and a bit about their experience and skill level.

Where are the guilds in GW2 like that, where it's actually about playing the game with a bunch of mid-30s idiots rather than it looking like trying to collect everything to win a game of diversity bingo? Expecting DMs as replies rather than guild adverts due to the more sensitive nature.

WvW – Dolyaks of Chaos [DoC] | Guild Training & Team Building | Get immersed in World vs World!

Dolyaks of Chaos [DoC] is recruiting for active, team oriented players who want to grow, learn, and win together in WvW. We’re a North America–based guild playing primarily in the Eastern time zone, running organized squads that typically range from 25–50 players. If you’re looking for a fun, supportive WvW home, you’ve found it.

Weekly schedule (NA times)

• Monday: 5 pm Pacific / 8–10 pm Eastern

• Wednesday: 5 pm Pacific / 8–10 pm Eastern

• Saturday: 6 pm Pacific / 9–11 pm Eastern

Expectations

• Play at least once per week: / 3 times a month. We have 12 Monthly opportunities. You only need to attend 3.

• Discord is required when we tag up (you can stay muted if you prefer).

• Our Discord has ~1700 members, our guild hall is level 69.

We are causal but organized. Meta builds are provided and we strongly encourage members to use them.
