I managed to get to the end of season 11. Yes, Derek's death was shattering, but what bugs me is what happened before his death.

I understand Patrick Dempsey might've wanted to be out of the show as soon as possible but you're telling me an intelligent world-class neurosurgeon just casually leaves his car in the middle of the road and right after a curb nonetheless to answer his stupid phone? Alright I get that no cars passed by while he took care of the people caught in the accident, but you have to always be cautious, right? What pissed me off is that he was also driving a Porsche Cayenne, I love that car 😭

Next thing is him being checked in as a 'John Doe'. In the phone conversation with Amelia, she says he's going to lose his flight so he took a different route only he knew. Which means, if you ever boarded a plane, he definitely needed his ID or passport. You can't tell me he didn't have his wallet on him with all his information available.

And to keep this going, Derek Shepherd was always known as 'the best surgeon in the country' yet you tell me nobody in that hospital recognized his face? Or when the little girl said his name is Derek and he's a surgeon, nobody made a connection between all of that?

They built the moment perfectly but these parts just piss me off. They could've just been done better.

I hated what Callie let her lawyer tell Arizona during the trial.

While Arizona’s lawyer mainly emphasized that Callie had created a support network with the other mothers that couldn’t be replicated in New York, Callie’s lawyer accused Arizona of being an absent mother, more focused on her work than on her daughter, and, above all, accused her of becoming Sofia’s mother only because she was forced to.

In my opinion, the trial was deliberately set up to make Arizona reasonably pissed off at Callie.

So what I’m wondering, given that it was the last significant thing Callie did before leaving, is whether it was just to make the character’s exit from the show less traumatic for us.

Am I wrong, or do you guys think so too?

I'll start with Jo Wilson.

I genuinely don't understand how she's managed to outlast every original cast member besides Meredith, Bailey, and Richard.

Nothing against Camilla Luddington personally, but I've never thought she was a particularly strong actress, and Jo has never felt like a character who brings much of substance to the show. A lot of her writing feels like a watered-down version of Izzie.

My biggest issue is that it feels like the show made her traumatic backstory her defining personality trait. It constantly comes back to living in her car, being abandoned, her abusive marriage, etc.

Yes, Izzie would occasionally bring up being a teen mom or growing up in a trailer park, but it was usually because the episode's story actually called for it. Those details informed who she was without becoming her entire personality. The same goes for the fact that she modeled to pay for medical school. It was part of her history, not something the writers constantly reminded us of every season.

I also never bought Jo and Alex as a couple. I just never felt like Camilla and Justin Chambers had much chemistry together, especially when you compare it to Justin Chambers and Katherine Heigl. Every time Alex and Izzie shared scenes, there was a spark there that I never felt with Jo, which made it even harder for me to get invested in Jolex.

On top of that, if you removed Jo from most of the seasons she's been in, I honestly don't think the overall story changes all that much. The biggest thing you'd really have to rewrite is the abusive marriage storyline because that's so specifically tied to her. Outside of that, I don't think her presence is all that essential to the show's larger narrative.

Meanwhile, Jo has been on the show for well over a decade, appearing in more than 260 episodes, and I still don't feel like she's ever become essential to Grey's the way Cristina, Izzie, George, Alex, Callie, Arizona, Mark, Lexie, or even Jackson eventually did.

I’ve been rewatching Grey’s again and I got to the point where Jo finds the documents of Alex and Izzie having frozen embryos and she makes a massive deal about it with Alex, asking him where their relationship is going etc. But then later when Alex asks her to marry him (in the next season I think?) she suddenly can’t because she’s hiding from Paul. Is this just an overlook by the writers (probably) or why would she push him so hard for their future as a couple when she literally can’t move forward? It bugs me.

When you think of Callie, who's the first person that comes to mind?

For me it's kind of a toss-up between Arizona and Mark.

Arizona was obviously her biggest love story, but Mark was such a huge part of Callie's life too. They were best friends, had Sofia together, and even after they stopped sleeping together they stayed incredibly close. Sometimes I almost associate Callie with Mark just as much as Arizona.

George feels more like early Callie to me, while Arizona and Mark are the relationships I think of when I think of the character as a whole.

Season 7 is one of my favourite seasons of greys anatomy so I’ve watched it a lot and always thought this little boy looked familiar and I’m in the middle of a criminal minds rewatch and it’s Hotchner’s son Jack lol

I seriously can’t stand Burke in this episode. First, he throws a fit because Cristina accidentally falls asleep during sex — because she’s an exhausted intern, which he of all people should understand! Then, he complains about how he hadn’t finished and spends the rest of the episode freezing Cristina out, culminating in him reading a book and ignoring her while they have dinner. Seriously?! Giving someone the silent treatment is a form of emotional abuse, and it seems to be his favorite tactic to roll out against Cristina.

I know that Cristina can sometimes be callous, and that she struggles to communicate, but I truly believe she has a good heart. Burke, on the other hand, ugh. He comes across as so narcissistic.

I know she had a trauma reaction after and was catatonic etc, but all the characters kept saying "she just lost Deluca" like she in particular was super close to him? It's mentioned repeatedly. When was this bond apparently developed?

I'm also just mad that they made an episode entirely focused on Teddy right after the episode that ended with Deluca's memorial. We didn't need to see why she's such a shitty person again with her cheating and her lying and her selfishness and complete disregard for others that it turned out she has a loooooong history of since she was with her secret girlfriend she creepily named her and Owen's baby after.

Teddy didn't deserve an episode like that and they weren't super close! Everyone kept saying what a loss Deluca was for Teddy. Who cares?!

Especially considering season 1-3 is a year and season 4-5 is a year so it's just a year's difference between season 3 (her relationship with Burke ending) and season 5 (her relationship with Owen).

Season 1-3 Cristina is like what is a boyfriend? Who are parents? Her concept of being a girlfriend was sleeping with someone and only them 😄

Then season 5 Cristina is wrangling Owen- a very unstable guy who showed up drunk to their first date and she pushed him to go and see his mother and went with him because Owen hadn't told his mother he's home from the army.

I got an idea for a season finale, a rogue patient/outside person goes crazy and steals scrubs, impersonates a doctor, then they give blood thinners to patients before they go into surgery, lying about the medication, and the patients end up bleeding heavily /dying in the OR

I've always loved the season finales and I got this idea from a nurse called nursestankk on instagram who makes skits, he's always including warfarin, a blood thinner in his videos so it inspired me

Just to add I'm honestly so bored of the new seasons, the show went from complex storyline and characters with actual depth to something that feels like PSA, every episode feels like it's tackling some social issue and trying to teach morals to us as if the audience are toddlers.

I know Ellen Pompeo requested reduced screen time during season 6 because she was pregnant, so I understand why the writers needed to write her out for a few episodes.

I just think this was one of the worst ways they could've done it.

The entire storyline hinges on Lexie begging Meredith to donate part of her liver to Thatcher. And yes, Meredith ends up doing it for Lexie, not Thatcher, but that's exactly what makes it so frustrating. Meredith is put in a position where saying no means letting her sister lose her father.

Meanwhile, Thatcher had abandoned Meredith, blamed her for Susan's death, slapped her across the face, and spent years treating her like she was nothing more than a reminder of Ellis. He may have been Lexie's dad, but to Meredith he was practically a stranger who had caused her nothing but pain.

It just feels like the writers looked at Ellen Pompeo's pregnancy and decided the best way to write her out was to put Meredith through another traumatic situation. There had to have been a less emotionally brutal way to accommodate Ellen's reduced screen time than having Meredith sacrifice part of her liver for a man who, in my opinion, didn't deserve it.

I like that the story strengthened Meredith and Lexie's relationship, but I hate that it came at Meredith's expense. It feels like the writers couldn't think of a way to reduce Ellen's screen time without putting Meredith through even more trauma.

I understand this is a show. Trust me I do. I’m up to episode 22 of season 13. But man, some of the things that have gone on in this spital, the crimes that have been committed within those walls.. man if this was a real place they would have demolished that shit 🤣 they would have blew that hospital to bits 🤣🤣

The only character to be in every season and still not have one episode that focused on her. I need a POV episode or some sort of storyline, let the woman have a voice, Shonda.

I’m on my nth rewatch and currently in s9 and I just realized that on Ep5, Cristina jokingly said “Sorry, Dad” and I just thought how special this storyline is to Cristina’s character. I think Dr. Thomas healed something in her and while Burke & Altman taught her to become a Cardio God, Thomas unknowingly taught her how to be a human (not that she isn’t, but you get what I mean).

I was so happy when Adele slammed the door in Richard's face after he finally decided he was ready to retire.

It was way too late. Richard spent years expecting Adele to put her life on hold while he chose the hospital over her over and over again. She even told him she didn't have any more time to give, and he still couldn't make a decision until it was on his terms.

On top of that, this is a woman who had already lived through Richard's affair with Ellis. Adele spent decades being the one making sacrifices while Richard always seemed to expect she'd still be there whenever he was finally ready.

I've also always felt like Richard loved what Adele did for him more than he loved Adele herself. He always had someone waiting at home, taking care of him, forgiving him, and putting up with his choices. It came across as incredibly selfish because he never seemed willing to make the same sacrifices for her until she was already gone.

Honestly, I think Adele slamming the door in Richard's face should have been the last time we ever saw her.

Instead, the show gave her Alzheimer's, then killed her. After everything she'd already endured, giving her essentially the same fate as Ellis felt unnecessarily cruel. Adele deserved a happy ending more than almost anyone on the show.

First time watching the series and I’ve made it to 17:1. I’m so annoyed because I love Deluca and his character had so much potential, but I’ve read the spoilers so I know what is about to happen very soon. Should I even bother to keep watching? It’s felt like such an investment, but I’ve read about the dreaded Covid season 😂. Why do we think they did Deluca so dirty? I didn’t necessarily like him with Meredith, but he was just such a good guy and refreshing to watch. Did the actor just want out of the show? Anyway, more of a rant than anything.

Her birthday is 7/20/71! My bf and I are watching Invincible together (where Sandra voices Debbie) and we just noticed her birthday written on her actress profile. I can’t believe I forgot, but happy birthday to one of the most versatile actresses I adore :)
