I am looking to add a bench line Gordon setter into my family. I have been looking at different breeders throughout the northeast USA and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a breeder.

looking for a good family dog that can have an off switch when we are inside. any information of the breed or experience you have had is welcome too!

So, I recently took over a 3-year-old male GS. During those three years, he had virtually no leash training, so to put it mildly, walking him was horrible. He was constantly pulling and darting in every direction.
We’ve been working on it for the past 3–4 months, and it has definitely improved, but we’ve reached a plateau. I’ve been using a head halter, which solves the problem immediately, but as soon as it comes off, we’re back to pulling.
The biggest challenge is when we’re in the woods or anywhere with lots of wildlife. Birds, scents, and the environment in general get him very excited, making it much harder for him to focus. In residential areas, however, he does much better and is far easier to manage.

This breed can be a bit headstrong, so it almost seems like he knows what he’s supposed to do but just doesn’t find it rewarding enough. It’s also very difficult to motivate him with food or toys because everything else in the environment seems far more interesting.

Other than that, he’s actually an incredibly calm dog. He settles almost instantly whenever I relax or ask him to, both at home and when we’re out. So this isn’t a dog that’s constantly stressed or over-aroused—it’s mainly an issue during walks in stimulating environments.
I’m mainly looking for advice from people who have dealt with the same issue. If you’ve had a dog that struggled with leash pulling despite consistent training, what finally made things click for you? Any tips or methods that worked would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I do hunt with him so he’s demands are met 😊

And I understand that walking heel in a animal rich environment is not something to strive for 😁

There are garden beds and fences keeping him from the fenceline, so this is the best place to view them from

Dog day afternoon.

We took on Charlie a year ago - he’s 2. We were told he’s a sprocker spaniel but his markings made me think there was something else. I didn’t even know Gordon Setters existed until today! Do you think he has it in him?
(We had his hair cut and his tail had to be amputated due to happy tail syndrome 😔)
