Discussion How would Kratos do in the Berserk universe?

Hello everybody! I am very avid fan of the God of War games and I’ve also recently discovered the world of Berserk by Kentaro Miura. I’m curious how other fans would think Kratos would fare if he had suddenly crossed over into the world of Berserk.

Weapons included ⚔️

Personally…I think Kratos goes HAM on most apostles! The much more powerful ones like Nosferatu Zodd and even SPOILER reincarnated Griffin will defiantly put up an intense fight but Kratos would still murder them!! Also just picture how fucking metal it would be seeing Spartan rage Kratos kill the God Hand with the Blade of Olympus

Discussion The reasons behind Kratos's unbridled thirst for power and ambition

Post image
29 Upvotes

In the first God of War, we learn that Kratos sold his soul to the God of War in exchange for the power to survive the war against the barbarians during Sparta’s military campaign. From games such as Sons of Sparta and Ghost of Sparta, we know that Kratos was looked down upon in Sparta for being a bastard as Deimos himself tells Kratos, they are outcasts in Sparta because of their shameful origins in the eyes of others. When Kratos lost Deimos, he tattooed his younger brother’s markings on himself as a reminder never to give in again and never to feel as powerless as he did on the day Ares and Athena invaded Sparta.

The first God of War shows us how the ruthlessness and brutality of those in power led to tragedy in Kratos’s life, but it never explained where that drive came from within Kratos himself, why he wanted to become stronger and stronger, and why he was so desperate to conquer and win more and more. Here, however, these two spin-offs neatly address this issue, as Kratos’s thirst for power stemmed from unresolved traumas such as

  1. The need to elevate his social status and the desire to climb as high as possible in the Spartan military hierarchy, stemming from the fact that as a child he was looked down upon for being a bastard raised solely by his mother. This sense of inferiority and shame drove Kratos to desperately prove himself as a great warrior, which later led him to become the youngest general in the Spartan army.

  2. A feeling of complete helplessness after he was unable to do anything to save Deimos; Kratos hated that feeling and did everything he could to ensure he would never end up in the same situation again, so he began desperately seeking to grow in strength at any cost. It’s easy to deduce that every time Kratos feels powerless like when Alrik was about to kill him the only thing on Kratos’s mind was the night Deimos was taken away, because he was too weak to save him. So he gave his soul to Ares to rid himself of that feeling forever and finally feel truly powerful.

  3. The Spartan upbringing itself was ruthless; it relied on corporal punishment and was focused on radical discipline and obedience to produce the best possible soldier, which only strengthened Kratos’s motivation to grow in strength.

When Kratos’s family died and his life became focused on freeing himself from nightmares, revenge, and redemption, his thirst for power evolved as it took on a specific form. Previously, Kratos had sought power simply for the sake of feeling he possessed incredible might. Later, his quest for strength stemmed from the need to accomplish a specific task rather than simply possessing power and feeling strong.

  1. In the first God of War, he sought Pandora’s Box to save Athen's ans kill Ares

  2. In God of War 2, he sought the Fates to prevent his own death

  3. In God of War 3, he once again sought a way to open Pandora’s Box to kill Zeus

  4. In God of War: Ascension, he gathered the powers of the gods to free himself from serving Ares

  5. In God of War: Chains of Olympus, he collected the gods’ artifacts to save Helios and stop Persephone

  6. In God of War: Ghost of Sparta, he once again collected the gods’ artifacts, this time to save his brother

His need for power didn’t stem primarily from a desire to possess power, but rather from the need to be able to achieve a goal he had set for himself or one the gods had set for him. I wrote this post to show that Kratos power hunger is more complex and has more nuances to it than just the fact that Kratos is a one dimensional monster who wanted more power and lost everything because of it.

Discussion What Are Your Overall Thoughts on God of War 3?

God of War 3 is the conclusion to the trilogy that came out 3 years after God of War 2. It was also the series transition into the PS3. This game had a lot of hype for many people it lived up to it, as it's the most iconic of the Greek saga games. So how does it hold up over 16 years later.

God of War 3 is my favorite in the series and one of my favorite games of all time.

Question Ragnarok…the difficulty??

I know I’m gonna slammed for this but ah hell, screw it.

What is up with the difficulty in this game? This may be one of the most difficult games (of this genre!) that I have played. I have had to lower it to “give me grace” so many times. And lately, I’m finding that when I’m at the berserker fights I’ve had to lower it to “give me story” and even then it takes me several goes to beat the guy. What’s going on?? I know the obvious answer is “I’m shit” and “get gud” and all that, but I’m telling you guys, I’m a seasoned gamer with many traditionally difficult games under my belt. I’m talking all 3 DS, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Returnal, Nioh, Doom, Hollow Knigjt etc.

If there’s a hard mode I usually play on that too. So why am I having so much trouble with this game? I am as fully upgraded as I possibly can be having exhausted every side quest and looted every chest that can be done up to my point so it’s not that I’m under equipped, I’ve upgraded all the skills and memorised combos, I prioritise blocking and parrying and play defensively…

I just simply suck? I just has to call it a night after failing to beat another berserker on “story mode” after 4 attempts in a row. This seems so out of the blue cause I had zero issues with GoW 1 (as well as the old school god of wars back in the day) and am so used to traditionally “difficult” games.

So yeah am I just high or what? Am I missing something?

This is it people. The final boss Berserker fight. My best effort has invested in this finale and I gotta say, I feel like l've accomplished everything this game has to offer. After spending around 350 hours in it, with all the boss fights played over and over on the max difficulty, achieving platinum trophy in it.. Now that I've defeated him on GMGOW with no Damage, I feel like I need a break from this game. I LOVE the support and encouragement this community has shown me and I can't appreciate enough how much it means to me.

That said, I'd love to hear your thoughts on which game clips(boss fights)would you like me to create going forward.
The games I'm considering are TLOU 1, TLOU 2,
UNCHARTED 1-4 And GOW 2018. Let me know by leaving a comment below.

In the meantime, enjoy this assault on the King!

Discussion Kratos in Ares armor action figure!

Post image
21 Upvotes

Let me tell you... these photos dont do it any justice. This kratos action figure looks 10x better in person. Dont even look at the promo photos... they scared me at first too. This thing looks so much better irl!

Anyone else into action figures on this sub? Me, personally... im super looking fwd to more GOW figures. For this first wave, they did the Ares armor (pictured), the Mark of Sparta armor (aka no gauntlets/chains or shirt/armor), and the einherjar enemy. The fact they did an enemy makes me think theyll go all out with more characters.

Character wise I know there will be limitless variants of kratos in different armor. Its a toy makers dream to get a license like GOW. You can reuse/repaint so many parts and make Hella variants. Im sure they'll do both versions of Atreus. Im curious what villains they'll do. Guarantee we'll see Thor and maybe Odin and Baldur. I also heard theyre already doing an og Greek era kratos.

Kratos wise id be most looking fwd to berserker armor, ivaldis armor, valkyrie armor, survival gear, black bear armor, dark odyssey? And a twilight stone armor would go super hard too.

What would you guys wanna see?

Question Will NG+ fix my bugged level 8 blades in GOWR

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I beat GOW Ragnarok. The game, all side quests, and gathered all collectibles and lore. I only have post game content to do which isn’t related to my bugged blades.

At some point during the game my blades became bugged and I had an exclamation point in my menu that became permanent. Not knowing that the two are connected issues and apparently a common bug I just kept playing through. I didn’t realize I couldn’t upgrade my blades until after I beat the game and looked it up. Somehow, the chaos sparks you gather for the blades don’t properly register (1 of them that is)

With that being said, if I start NG+ will I be able to upgrade my blades all the way to 10 or is it screwed? Has anyone else had this issue?

Discussion One thing that has been bothering me about ragnarok

One of the norms when speaking to Kratos says Exeunt Omnes or all exit, as in the end of the story, but in universe understanding it would mean the destruction of everything as in the prophecy groa told Odin, so were the Norns assuming kratos would end the “world” like he did in Greece or did they believe in the part of the prophecy groa made up to Odin, or were they lying about the future to keep Kratos is in the dark. It just doesn’t make sense in universe, obviously to the player it just means the game is over but that isn’t how it would be interpreted by Kratos

If this makes no sense I blame my lack of sleep

Discussion About Zeus

We know that Zeus got infected by Fear which gradually intensified his existing fear of the cycle of patricide and also made him a paranoid coward. If he had managed to kill Kratos for good, do you think he would have been released from the Evil or he would have remained under its influence forever and would always find things to be afraid of? I personally believe that seeing Kratos dead would make him so happy that he wouldn't have any fears left for the Evil to stand on and leave him.
