I started Playground Dads because I thought it would be nice to have more opportunities for dads to meet other local dads while the kids play.
The next meetup is at Rick Oden Park in Garland on Sunday, August 23 at 10:00 AM.
I'll bring the donuts. 🍩
No agenda. No pressure. Just bring the kids, let them play, and hang out for as little or as long as you'd like.
I'm going to try to make these monthly, so there should always be another one if you can't make this meetup.
If you're seeing this too late or can't make this one, I post all of the upcoming meetups here:
https://www.meetup.com/playground-dads/
Hope to see y'all there!

I’m curious what people here think.
Garland has a lot going on: neighborhoods, schools, churches, parks, restaurants, gyms, cultural communities, families, longtime residents, and people connected to nearby Dallas/Richardson/Rowlett/Mesquite.
But does that actually make it easier to build friendships/community as an adult, or do people mostly keep to their own circles?
I’m working on a small independent research project called The DFW Friendship Project about how adults in DFW build friendships, find community, and where things get stuck.
What has helped you feel connected in Garland? And what still makes it hard?
Anonymous 4–6 minute survey for anyone who wants to share privately:

to cut through parking lots to bear lights. Is it illegal to don the same by driving behind stores to do the same thing? This is a dangerous constant occurrence from Rowlett Rd. to Castleglen behind the Albertsons on Broadway. The impatient drivers probably have the “Everbody does it.” mentality. It happens so much if it isn’t illegal I think Albertsons should start charging a toll.

I’ve been applying on indeed for teen part time jobs i’m wondering are these places actually hiring? I’ve only gotten one reply and they wanted me to work up until 1 am. Any recommendations to where I could apply?

I am just now learning of a massive 267,000 sq ft data center planned for 4221 N Garland Ave, across from Hawaiian Falls. The AI-ready cloud services data center will house 3 multi story data center buildings. This project is showing as planned, I know many residents do not want these data centers next to their homes and I want to share this development. https://baxtel.com/data-center/prime-dfw02-03

Hi all! I’m a newly-barred attorney based here in DFW. My family has been running a small boutique law firm here in DFW for over 30 years. We specialize in drafting wills and associated estate planning documents, probating estates, entity formations, and establishing living trusts. While the rest of my family is looking towards retirement, slowing the business down, I am at the outset of my career and eager to get out into the world
While we’ve been operating primarily out of Arlington, we’re looking to offer our services in the surrounding areas. If you, or anyone you know is needs help with planning what to do with your estate after you pass (as we all do eventually), or you just have a business idea and need help setting it up, please feel free to shoot me a DM!
Thanks y’all!

I've been feeding a young stray cat (I'd guess she's under a year old) at my local park. She's becoming more comfortable around me, but she's still difficult to handle, and I think she may be pregnant.
I know Garland's TNR program typically returns community cats where they're trapped, but since she's young and somewhat social, I'm wondering if there are any local rescues, foster organizations, or experienced trappers who could help get her into foster care instead.
I'm happy to keep feeding her and help however I can. I just want to give her the best chance, especially if she's pregnant. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

My family just opened a new Vietnamese restaurant in Garland called Bếp & Phin (3620 W. Walnut St.).
We know opening a restaurant is never perfect, and the first week has definitely been a learning experience. We’ve been reading every review, listening to customer feedback, and making changes every single day—from improving our phở broth and service to expanding our drink menu.
If you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese food, we’d love for you to give us a try.
We serve:
Phở (Beef Noodle Soup)
Bún Bò Huế (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup)
Cơm Tấm (Rice Plate)
Vermicelli bowls
Vietnamese coffee
Matcha drinks
Thai teas and more
We’re currently offering 10% off during our soft opening while we continue improving.
If you stop by, we’d genuinely love to hear your honest feedback. Supporting a small family-owned business means a lot to us, and we’re committed to getting better every day.
📍 Bếp & Phin
3620 W. Walnut St.
Garland, TX 75042
Soft opening hours 11am-8pm (closed Wednesdays)
Thanks for reading, and hopefully we’ll get the chance to serve you soon!

Hi all,
No one seems willing to fix it since it’s an older vehicle…1998 Nissan Sentra. My own excellent mechanic has had it for months and not been able to fix it, and I’ve contacted a few places specializing in imported vehicles and just gotten various excuses. At my wits’ end with it. It’s in good running shape other than this issue.
I am in the Dallas, TX area, specifically Garland, TX.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

My mechanic got back to me with a diagram of my evap system and said this: “So this is a diagram of your evap system. Your car can have 2 different systems depending on if it has a stepper motor style purge valve or with a duty style purge valve. The lines in yellow have all been confirmed clear. The vacuum cut valve is where im stuck at. And why im stalled.”
Unable to post diagram here but you can find on the Nissan page where I also posted about this.

Hi guys, does anybody know someone who could install gutter on one side of my house with an affordable quote ?
Also, after fixing foundation, they left excessive dirt on the side. I would love someone who could take it away and do a sidewalk if possible. Thanks alot.

My mom is in her 60's and I was looking to see if there are any deaf groups/communities she could join? She's been lonely and all her deaf friends are back in another state. It could also be a hard of hearing group, she wears a hearing aid

Does anyone have any recommendations for personal trainers? I'm looking to start building muscle after basically a lifetime of being pretty sedentary, and I need more accountability than I can bring by trying myself. Appreciate any connections!

Data Center Water and Electric Usage Report and Discussion of Economic Impact and Community Benefits
Council requested staff to prepare a report on water and electric usage by data centers in Garland and compare it to other industrial users. Staff will also discuss the potential economic impact and community benefits of data centers. Presenter: Crystal Owens, Assistant City Manager, Matthew Watson, Assistant City Manager, Darrell Cline, General Manager & CEO
u/HedrickForGarland - Interested on your thoughts.
I'm concerned about the new GISD Network Technology Center being built near my home considering the added noise pollution it will bring along with it. I'd share this concern with other Garland residents facing the potential development of new data centers near their homes.
