GGC Announcement First Time Here? Start with these resources!

Hello, and welcome to r/GarageGymCompetition. My name is Joe Gray, I go by Gray Matter Lifting on the various interweb channels, I'm a moderator here and over on r/HomeGym and I’m the creator and coordinator of the Garage Gym Competition… A virtual powerlifting meet for at-home lifters.

No registration, no fees, easy entry, compete at any time during the week from your own gym, with a ton of awesome stuff up for grabs, all handed out via an open drawing where top prizes can be won with a 200lb or 2000lb total. Expect to see thousands of people around the globe enter each year: from seasoned professional powerlifters to complete beginners; from grandmas to 3 year olds; moms and dads and husbands and wives; every race creed and color; from multiple continents across the planet. The Garage Gym Competition is for anyone who pursues strength with a bar and weights at home.

The quick and dirty to get you caught up to speed on the GGC can be found on the website here:

https://garagegymcompetition.com/about/

What are we doing here on r/GarageGymCompetition**?**

I'll be bringing all of the awesome content from the website, Instagram, and more here so if Reddit is your social media platform of choice you'll be ready to rock! You can post your training footage here as you prep for the GGC as well!

Post your PRs and your plunders... Post your tips and tricks... Post your questions, technique reviews, depth checks, maybe share a review of your favorite sponsor products, and more! Anything leading up to the Garage Gym Competition, is good to go! The rest of everyone here can chime in, provide insight and help, you name it.

Remember, this sub isn't meant to be ALL things lifting at home, but as long as the post can be drawn to being a better athlete in the next GGC, we are probably on point. Of course you can also ask any questions you have about the GGC, myself, our sponsors (some are active here), you name it!

You can check out the FAQs via the FAQ flair on the sidebar or search as well.

Submissions

If you are here to submit your lifts for entry:

  1. Hit a 1RM Squat, Bench, and Deadlift in a garage gym during the week of the competition.
  2. Before the end of the week, upload those recordings on one of the approved social media platforms and use the hashtag #GarageGymCompetition (for Reddit, use the Post Flair #GarageGymCompetition)
  3. Enter your lifts in the Tracker (link available the week of the competition)

Then sit back and watch as the rest of the Garage Gym Community lifts and competes, and then we hand out all the awesome prizes!

. They actually sponsored the very first year of the GGC back when Kaevon tossed up a few mobility tools and nick nacks.

This year they've gone all in on the speciality bar route, handing out your choice (for three different winners) of any of their specialty bars like the SS4, Open Trap Bar, Multi Cambered Swiss, and more.

Shout out to the team for being one of the original and longest standing sponsors for the GGC as we roll into the #26FallGGC

Rep is tossing up a mystery prize for the #26FallGGC

During the spring our winner got to choose between a bar and bench. That might be the same deal, or not, for the fall. Could be plates. Could be dumbbells. Who knows?

What would you like to see REP toss up?

The GGC Junior Bar was created specifically for the kiddos getting after it in the gym. So that they would have their own bar. Literally... They get to write their name on the end caps!

Rated to 500lbs, it's a perfect solution for kiddos or for small spaces. Snag one from our sponsor @weight_itout

Question Garage gym people: what did you only realize after using your setup for a while?

For people who’ve had a garage gym / home gym for a while: what did you only realize after actually training in it week after week?

I’m curious about the practical stuff that’s hard to predict before building the setup — heat/cold, dust, flooring, storage, equipment spacing, noise, lighting, plate changes, motivation, safety, family/roommate conflicts, or gear you thought you’d use more.

I’m a designer doing product research around home training, trying to understand what real garage gym routines feel like after the initial excitement wears off.

If you’re in LA / LA metro and have strong opinions about your setup, reply here and I can send details/a short screener.

They were our grand prize sponsor back in the COVID days, which was a huge help to boost our growth and visibility. And they've since tossed in dumbbells, benches, bars, and plates for winners.

REP just connected with me on a cool project that will show up in 2027 for our 10 Year Anniversary... So stay tuned for that as well.

What will be up for grabs this fall for the #26FallGGC ? Let's find out next week.

Wanted to show some appreciation for Wall Control and the GGC. You can see my previous pegboard which now just protects the backside of an outlet and the nicer stronger Wall Control setup. Was able to hang everything I had on that pegboard and clear off some space off a storage shelf just out of my gym area

The #26SpringGGC Awards is being finalized as we speak for everyone to be able to use them however they see fit... On their walls, take over a kingdom, whatever...

But I figured it made sense to debut the #26FallGGC Stickers... We took the pies for the Spring, we are taking Swords for the Fall!

Remember... Free event, free coaching, free opportunities, tons of prizes, we donate to non profits, and you get a free sticker. Wowzers.

Sponsors & Prizes juggernautai.app is back as our Presenting Sponsor

I talked to Chad early on and told him I'd probably run JuggAI for a year and then switch to something else. I ended up running it for 2.5 years before taking my first break.

As someone who actually enjoys writing their own programming, there was a lot to unpack and learn and test and understand from running it. Beyond just the "I made gains" concept, as someone who writes programs for others (friends and family), who spends more time than they should in the gym, and who understands the why as much as the what, this was an awesome experiment.

I nailed a 1500lbbTotal, hit the best 3 lifts of my life so far, and walked away unscathed and ready for the next journey.

I know I'll eventually come back to JuggAI, but part of me lives that "you don't know what you've got till it's gone" life. So I need a break so I can come back hungry and ready to release the reigns again.

If you haven't tried it yet, I think it's an awesome program to get some different perspective. On exercise selection, phases of training, volume, and more. Code GGC will save ya on your subscription BTW.

Our last insight into the submission data from the #26SpringGGC

Some of these brought a tear to my eye, made me chuckle, or made me think "why didn't I think of that?"

#26SpringGGC Keep an eye on the miniGGC

I love the idea of adding lifts to the GGC. But also hate it. Because the entire point is to keep it simple, and we have so many avenues for you to adjust the Squat, Bench and Deadlift, that adding additional lifts just makes noise.

So the GGC is and will be a Powerlifting focused event.

But we party in the Winter with the miniGGC and do something else. We've done dunk contests, grip comps, Strongman showdowns, and much more. Strict Curl could be a thing, maybe partnering with GGC Coach @gaglionestrength ?

I honestly rarely know what we are going to do until we get there. But it's a fun way to win some gift cards during the holiday shopping spree.

Got a few comments around @homegymcon in the Submission form, so wanted to clarify a few things.

First, yep, we'll be there. We got a booth and everything! So stop bye and see us. If you are on the newsletter, we'll be sending out details around where we are going for dinner those 3 nights so we can hang out and chat, share a bite to eat, whatever.

Second, we want to keep our first booth fairly simple. But if it goes well and we do it again, I think we'll bring some formal GGC goodness to the convention center.

Shout-out to this great idea from the #26SpringGGC submission form. It has now been added to the Fall Submission Form. Now if you are recovering from an injury, or maybe have a specific question, comment, feedback, whatever, you can drop it in and we'll get it over to your coach.

Simple as that!

#26SpringGGC I read every single comment, THANK YOU!

I go through the submission form and read every single comment. Well spend some time this week digging into some of the feedback from the #26SpringGGC

Today it's a random smattering of awesomeness from everyone. All the good feedback, notes, thanks and more. And then a few that I love, people finding their way into the GGC to make it work for them. Chasing down levels of strength they didn't know they had. And keeping their eyes on the prize!

Sincerely, I appreciate everyone who participates in this little family run event that has gone well beyond my original ideas. And the feedback is always a nice kick in the ass to remind me to keep it rolling.

The GGC will be here as long as everyone wants it to be. So thanks for showing up and keeping me busy!
