My boyfriend recently surprised me with a Fujifilm X-M5, and I honestly couldn’t be happier. I’ve dreamed of owning my own Fujifilm camera for years. I’ve always loved photography, but I’ve only ever shot on my iPhone, so this is my very first “real” camera.

I had the chance to use it for the first time during a few days in Chicago. I know I’m still a complete beginner, and I’m learning as I go, but I’m already loving the image quality.

What I’m struggling with is understanding how people make their photos really come to life. I see so many beautiful Fujifilm images online, and I’m trying to figure out how much of that comes straight from the camera or from editing afterward.

I’m also still trying to understand how to get the look I want with focus and background blur. Sometimes my subject isn’t as sharp as I’d like, or I don’t get that nice separation between the subject and the background. I’m sure it’s a mix of settings and technique, but I don’t really know where to start.
I’m still learning things like exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, film simulations, recipes, focusing modes, and composition, so it all feels a little overwhelming right now.

I’m going to attach some of the photos I took in Chicago as references. I’d really appreciate any honest feedback. What am I doing well, what should I improve, and what would you have done differently if you had taken these photos?

From 2025 to 2026, I traveled multiple times to the Amboseli Conservation Area in Kenya to photograph Craig, the elephant with the world's longest tusks.

It possessed a pair of incredibly long tusks, measuring 2.7 meters in length and weighing over 45 kilograms, asymmetrical on both sides.

It was remarkably gentle towards humans, a quality that left a deep impression on me.

It passed away peacefully this January at the age of 54.

Still new to this camera and trying to figure out the right recipe, but I liked these photos so I figured I would share

Picked up the XT5 about a year ago after coming from Sony and I thought I would end up rotating through a bunch of glass. That is not what happened. Ended up with the XF 35mm f1.4 and the XF 16mm f1.4 on rotation basically the whole time and rarely touched anything else I borrowed or rented.

The 35mm is just stupidly good for how old it is. It hunts a bit in low light and the autofocus noise is whatever, but the rendering is something I have not found a reason to replace. Shot a lot of street and cafe stuff with it this year and it kept delivering.

The 16mm surprised me. Did not expect to rely on it as much as I did, but it became my goto for anything indoors or tight spaces.

Curious if other people landed in a similar place where they bought into Fuji thinking they would experiment more and just ended up locked onto one or two lenses. Is there a lens you kept coming back to that you did not expect to? Or did you actually rotate through a full kit and find that useful in ways I am probably missing.

All shot on X-T2 with the TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8. Most were shot at or around 2.8 because I like the vignetting it gives. Shots are mostly SOOC. A couple have a touch of warmth added in post with the temperature slider and of course the borders were added in LR.

I definitely was shooting more based on vibes than technically good photos, but a few of these I’m actually pretty proud of.

Second attempt going out with the camera. Tried to go slowly this time, took my time to shoot. Also tried to apply some rules and better recipes.
In the future I Hope I could do some editings too.

I'm not a beginner in terms of taking pictures, but I do feel like I need some assistance and guidance on what would be a good start for me.

I normally take landscape but also street photography:)

What is the best way to utilise the xt4 to it's max potential:)

Probably one of the most asked questions, sorry for that.

I bought an old 7.2 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 and took it to Japan to see whether photography was for me. I ended up loving the process of walking around, quickly photographing people, cars and everyday moments, then moving on. I’ll attach some of those photos.

I also love the nostalgic digicam look, so Fujifilm’s film simulations really appeal to me.

I’m currently deciding between the X-T30 III and X-T50. I probably don’t need 40 MP, but the X-T50’s IBIS and cropping room are tempting.

The X-T30 III is cheaper, lighter and likely already enough for my photography.

I also want good video and may start making travel vlogs. My concern is the X-T50’s rolling-shutter or “jelly” effect when walking or panning. Is it really annoying or just noticable at very high speed objects?

The X-S20 seems practical, but I’m less interested because it lacks the dedicated film-simulation dial and retro controls.
Which camera would you choose? I’m also open to completely different models of the Fujifilm company.

Also if you could recommend a lens for my use case if I choose the X-T50, I would be so thankful.
