A small thank you to the medical team who saved my father yesterday.

We hear a lot about the negatives of our healthcare system, so I wanted to write this to show a positive for once.

Thank you to the 911 operator who dispatched the ambulance to my father who was having a stroke.

Thank you to the EMTs who got to him in less than 5 minutes and whisked him off to the hospital and who took the time to ask my mother of his progress a few hours later.

Thank you to the ER doctors & nurses who gave him the right meds immediately to stop the stroke from taking his life.

Thank you to the orderlies who brought him to the testing areas and ICU.

Thank you to all the techs, nurses, and doctors who gave him all the necessary tests.

Thank you to the great ICU nurses, especially Terrie, who are taking care of him while he recovers.

Where to donate?

I have some really nice toys that I’d like to donate to kids in need (not Value Village or the donation bins on the side of the road). I contacted a women’s shelter but they said they just don’t have the space. Any other places I can go?

Road Rage while visiting

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I hope everyone is having a good hump day in Freddy. I'm visiting from away to see my dad, and was curious about the drivers here recently. I'm from Fredericton and I don't think I've seen the innate levels of anger come out of people in vehicles in the years I lived here along with the current visit.

I was just dropping my dad off quickly with my blinker off to the side so he could run into Walmart up at the regent mall in the cross walk area and a lady in a blue mini van immediately (and I mean immediately) honked at us, gave us the finger and then blew around the van and nearly hit a guy walking across in her fit of rage to get out of the parking lot faster? I guess? The dude she almost hit lost his mind at her and it just turned into a whole thing.

She sped off without hesitation and we were all just kind of dumbfounded.

Has as stuff like this been happening a lot here now and escalating as of lately? It just seemed so unnecessary. This isn't the first time since being back that people seem to be impatient with drivers around them even when those people are following the rules or giving proper indications like signals.

Edit 1: Appreciate the feedback and responses! I'm not trying to complain. As I said I'm from here and not used to this level of anger on the road growing up here. It was just a bit concerning when they flew around me. I wasn't stopped for a mere 5 seconds before they sped around and almost hit someone. I like to gauge how to handle stuff like this when it's something I'm unfamiliar with in an area I feel I'm supposed to be familiar with. Ultimately it's my bad for doing something stupid somewhere I clearly shouldn't of. I didn't respond to their behaviour, honk back, flip them off or anyrhing... I was just there like "Okay, whoops". There was definitely no "drop off zone" sign lmao. My bad!

Fredericton SPCA

Fredericton SPCA posted this individual on their Facebook page. Some angry (justified) comments quickly after and was soon deleted.

I blocked out the individual because I don’t believe that they deserve to be slandered. Other resources could’ve been contacted, but thank god the animals weren’t left any place worse than the front door of a shelter. His full face and body profile was visible in the screenshot, as well as the petty caption. I believe the owner of the Fredericton SPCA has faced some controversy before.

ALWAYS SUPPORT OROMOCTO SPCA!!!!🩷

Don't be fooled by the solar panels, this thing runs off a generator. Flashes a bright police-blue strobe. Looks like 360' cameras + IR illuminators for night vision. Of course, the city doesn't appear to own it, looks to be rented. What do you think these cost / month? Who's monitoring it? Good chance if it's a third-party service it's an AI platform that's monitoring it.

Looking for hobby resistors

Hi all, anyone know where I could buy 3 12ohm resistors for a small project? Elm City hobby doesn’t seem to deal in electronics and I don’t need a 250 pack from Amazon.

Edit: after some research up to 47ohm would also be great

Help! I feel for a phone scam

So mad at myself as I’m always preaching to my parents about not falling prey to phone scammers. And then I fell for one. Now my cell receives around 7+ callers every day since mid-May. I don’t pick up these unknown numbers from different provinces, but I’m hoping you might have suggestions on how to end this cell ringing madness. All suggestions welcome

Looking for Y2K clothing

Where in Fredericton or surrounding areas can I buy Y2K clothing?

I’ve been to pretty much every thrift store in Fredericton regularly, checked Facebook Marketplace, and searched Depop/eBay/Etsy, but everything online is either insanely overpriced or has expensive shipping.

Does anyone know of:

Hidden thrift stores or consignment shops in NB?
Church sales, auctions, flea markets, or places that get clothing by the bag or bale?

Local Facebook groups or other places to look?

Any tips for finding authentic Y2K clothing without paying $150 for a pair of jeans?

Road test in Fredericton this Friday: what should I expect?

Hi everyone!

I’m taking my Class 7.2 road test in Fredericton this Friday and I’m hoping to hear from people who have taken it recently.

I completed driving school in Halifax and took my first road test there, but unfortunately didn’t pass. Since then I’ve moved to New Brunswick and have had more time to practice, so I’m feeling much more prepared this time.

For those who have taken the Fredericton test:

• What route did your examiner take?
• Are there any roads or intersections they almost always use?
• Did you have to do parallel parking, hill parking, or roadside parking?
• What are the most common reasons people fail here?
• Any small tips or “I wish someone had told me this before” advice?

I’ve heard the test now starts from the Brookside Service NB location, but I’m not sure what to expect beyond that.

Thanks so much! I’d really appreciate any advice.

Dumpster rental services

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for decently priced dumpster rental services in the area. Planning to demo a deck, and get cost of renting from Fredericton Dumpster Services ($350 plus extra fees) is almost as much as my contractor quoted me to demo AND dispose. Surely there must be a cheaper option?

Post here if you’re looking for friends!

Hi! There’s been a few “looking for friends” posts lately and I think that’s really cool!! Sadly (imo) one recent one was removed by mods for being “self-promotion”

So in order to give that person a place to repost and to invite others to; I’m posting this thread.

Not looking for friends myself to be clear, mods. Not to brag, but I currently have one, maybe two.

Please keep it G rated; and be careful meeting people: meet in public; tell others your whereabouts etc
