I wish genesee valley center wasn't so dead

I moved here around 3 years ago so I never saw this mall thriving. Today I drove down to great lakes crossing, and man, going to a mall with actual stores and people walking around made me very nostalgic for the heydays of malls, and it also made me realize how much I wish we had something like that in Flint. Great lakes crossing isn't exactly thriving either but it's far from being in the dead and decrepit state as genesee valley center. Some people seem to be celebrating the death of malls, and maybe I would be to if their death meant we'd at least get our downtowns back, but that doesn't seem to be the case in most cities. For most American cities, malls dying simply means the last vestige of a third place being gone for good.

Good BBQ in flint and surrounding area?

Just had famous Dave’s for the first time in many years and was terribly disappointed. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised, but they were the only local place that I could get a variety of meats. Daughter was interested in trying BBQ after a Texas trip.

Smoking Charlie’s used to be my favorite back when they were on center and Atherton. And we’re good at the market. But don’t know where they are now.

Da Red Wagon I’ve had a few times, but never appear open.

Haven’t had Scratch BBQ yet. But they barely showed any selection online.

Haven’t had backyard bbq on hill rd either.

I’m guessing homeboy is no more after the fire a few years ago.

Who is your go-to for ribs and pulled pork?

Anyone going to the Adult Book Fair: Fantasy Edition?

Thumbnail youtu.be

I’ve never been to an adult book fair before, so I was excited to see that Sloan Museum is doing one this weekend (buying my ticket right now). I heard they have done them before (maybe not to this theme) - has anyone gone? Is anyone going to this one in particular? Planning to dress up or do anything extra?

Flint area Rye?

Maybe it's the Louis L'Amour books, but I've got a hankering for a good Rye drink in mid-Michigan. Any recommendations?

Really cool comic con

Did anyone attend the con today at dort financial center? Probably going to go tmrw to check out some of the vendors. I know it’s more anime focused, but I’m more into the dark scary horror stuff, was there a good selection of vendors this year that have those kinds of things? I did go check it out last year, and left with quite a few horror collectibles, and items. Was wondering if it’s like that this year too, or is it mostly just anime. I am kind of on a budget, and these cons aren’t usually easy on the wallet, but sometimes I can’t help myself lol always have to add more to the collection.

How’s everyone in Flint holding up with the wildfire smoke

Is anyone currently experiencing any symptoms right now because of this? Had a headache for most of the day, and now just a sore throat and irritated eyes. Currently inside the house with all the windows shut, and a fan on, and can still smell it. Thought about going over to my sisters house in Auburn Hills, but not sure how bad it is over there.

Wildfire smoke has officially hit us!

Was outside 30 mins ago and everything was fine but all of a sudden it smells and looks like a house is on fire in my neighborhood. Crazy.

Smoke/air quality

As someone in the northern part of the lower peninsula, we get a pretty thick cloud of smoke every year from Canada being on fire, and i was curious how much of that reaches the flint area. Today where I am its keeping the entire area orangeish tan and dark, with a very strong smoke smell, similar to being next door to a house fire.

Seeking Local Muralist Suggestions

I have been tasked to compile a local talent list of muralists for an upcoming project and I thought I'd check here first. I am aware of who I will call the 'usual suspects' and while they are extremely talented, I think it's important to share the love and explore diversity in art styles as well as artists themselves. Local to Flint & Genesee County is a priority. It'd be nice to be aware of some more BIPOC/LGBTQIA+/Women artists in the area doing this kind of work who maybe don't have the notoriety. There would be a theme around nature for this project and professionalism in craft and execution is very important.

Who is hiding out there? Links to portfolios or art socials are greatly appreciated if you got 'em.

Flint Pride Parking

I plan on hitting up Flint Pride on the 18th. It will be my first time going, so I'm not really sure where to park. In fact, I don't go downtown Flint very often, so I'm not sure of the parking situation in general. I would appreciate any help.

We are all prisoners in Flock's jail.

Combine this with ring cameras, the cameras built into newer cars, and all the other forms of surveillance we are subjected too and the fact that you never committed a crime hardly matters because you're all ready being treated as a prisoner and your 4th amendment rights aren't worth the parchment they're written on. Is everyone cool with this? Why aren't more people collectively pissed off about this?

Swimming for dogs?

Update: we went to seven lakes in Fenton, while there’s no dogs allowed on the beach, we were able to find a nice section of grass along the lake where there are pavilions and bathrooms. We had to step down about 1-2ft to get into the water but otherwise it was great! (Honestly it was better than the beach because we were able to be secluded by ourselves while the beach was packed) Definitely recommend going there, cost us $20 for the day. Lots of trails, fishing spots, and other things!

Anyone know of a place or lake around here that allows dogs to swim? I’m near stepping stone falls and bluebell but I don’t think they allow dogs in the water. Idc if it’s super close or not to here I just don’t know what’s available. Preferably free but I’m willing to spend a couple bucks. Thanks in advance

Help find Skye a home

Hi I am trying to help a relative who is displaced from their home and cannot continue to care for their German Shepherd. She is 3 years old, has her vaccinations but is not spayed. She is well behaved, good with kids of all ages and other dogs. Shared home with other dog and cats for a while. My mom has tried to help for over a week calling places to get her into and no luck. I have 2 dogs and my mom has 3 or we would take her in. My home is not big enough for another dog as much as I want to take her in. Thank you for any help.

UPDATE: Skye has found a new home!! Thank you everyone that helped this post get seen. ❤️😊

DTW Airport Transport

Hey! What are the possible options for me to get to the Detroit airport from flint other than Uber and Lyft (which cost over 100 dollars)? I’m looking for options cheaper than booking an uber. Any suggestions?
