Why are people only starting to call out ZARA now?

Everyone started calling out Zara after they dropped the China inspired pieces, saying its “racism and cultural appropriation”. But they have been using Eastern European and slavic motives for years. Ive never heard anyone say anything about that, ever. Im Slavic and never cared about it but its interesting to see the double standard.

Vegan and plastic free plaids and checks

I love all plaids and checks, gingham, houndstooth, prince of wales, argyle – what the internet likes to call an "academia aesthetic" (I cringe slightly at that, but you get the picture). These fabrics obviously tend to be wool and apart from animal fabrics I also want to avoid plastics. Every once in a while I'll pick up something nice in 100% cotton or a cotton linen blend thrifting, but it's really a pain to find these pieces. Any advice for places to look that ship to the EU?

EU ban on destroying unsold clothes takes effect

Excerpt >Under the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, large companies with more than 250 employees and over €50 million in net annual turnover are banned from destroying stocks of unsold clothing, accessories and footwear.
Firms must now find ways of selling the products, including via discounts, alternative markets and charity donations.
Unsold clothes can only be destroyed when items are unsafe, damaged, counterfeit or rejected by charities

Germany retail federation Managing Director Stefan Genth warned, however, that the rule change would be a challenge for many stores.
Not all unsold goods can be resold or donated easily due to damaged packaging, high logistics costs, lack of demand or low product values

Hello! (Sorry for any horrible spellings!!) Does anyone know of good ethical clothing shops for goblincore?? Especially men’s clothing? I’ve tried and still try to theft, though it is hard especially in the small awful town I live in (UK) I’m on Vinted and found many great things buuutt I would be happy if anyone had any shops (specifically online) you could recommend, as I have seen others but they always end up being unethical or WAY overpriced for what they are. I’m struggling lol

TDLR; Applies to larger companies, no more destroying the clothes they can't sell, they'll have to get rid, "via discounts, alternative markets and charity donations".

Will this make the fashion industry 'healthier'? Now they can't just incinerate the stuff they don't sell, they'll have to make it more attractive and saleable, which will cost them money/affect their bottom line.

Might they, not from a genuine desire to be less wasteful (though they'll try to convince us of that), might they become more conscientious about what and how much they manufacture? Might they upcycle? Might they clothe the needy from their excesses?

Recommendations for cotton bras?

Has anyone found moderately priced comfortable mostly cotton bras? Targets are only half cotton, cotton on's bras look small and uncomfortable. Old Navys look okay. Or any fabric that is natural.

I just can't get into online thrifting

I've barely been buying clothes the last few years, but with a new job i noticed myself regularly running out of appropriate clothes, so of to the shops I am.

I've been to the thrift shops in the area before, and I've been able to make some great finds there, though it's incredibly hit or miss, and a vast majority of clothes I don't like, and of the ones I like, most don't fit me.

I have a Vinted account, and I've scrolled on there before, toying with the idea of ordering some stuff, but I just can't get myself to do it.

Online thrifting has several issues. It's

a. So risky!! The chances of the clothes not fitting is quite high. Even if i get my measurements, there's many clothes that fit me technically, but I still don't like the way they look on me. I'm very limited with what I could even get there.

and b. Online thrifting takes soooo much time. I don't particularly like shopping, but I do like fashion. Sifting through Vinted is a never-ending task where maybe 1 in 100 items actually speaks to me just visually, and then there's a thousand other criteria to consider. At least in an actual store, there's a limited amount of items.

In the end, i never end up ordering anything, because I can't tell accurately enough if I would like the clothes on me, and if they would actually fit. And that is with my pretty average body, i can't imagine how annoying/impossible it would be if you're outside the norm. I also don't have enough disposable income to have 10 Euros wasted, in the end.

Idk what my goals are exactly, except that I got very annoyed and wanted to rant - but I also DO want to thrift clothes, and again, the stores in my area just don't have good stuff.

So i'm willing to be convinced to give it a try after all, but I'm also looking to commiserate, and maybe get some alternative ideas on where to get clothes (europe-based, i suppose it makes a difference)

Shein.

I dont understand the attitude I got today about a necklace I was wearing, it was from Shein. These two older ( 60s) women approached me and complimented me on my outfit. Especially the necklace I had on. When I said where it was from they both recoiled as if I had sworn at them.

To add some info about me, I buy my clothes from everywhere , I thrift and sew alot of things I wear. I buy my jeans from the boys section in Walmart ( I'm very short lol) and donate clothes I'm not wearing. Not that it matters but I'm also plant based.

I like to get a few things from Shein here and there and until today have never been treated this way when I've said somethings from Shein.

Is it really that bad?

What ethical companies have the same fun prints, quality, and range that Blackmilk used to have?

I am looking to for similar companies to Blackmilk that are US based. Between the quality downgrade, price hikes, and the tariffs - it's not the same company is used to be. Things about the clothing that drew me to Blackmilk:

\\- The patterns are beautiful but not cartoonist (this has gone downhill in recent years)

\\- Dress and other clothing that is everyday fashion I could wear to work or casually - not just as athletic wear

\\- The prints on velvet that were printed - not just burn out

\\- Prints based on various artworks

\\- items I could where in winter where in Boston as well as pieces for summer

\\- Appealed to a range from very colorful to gothic

\\- did have pieces with nice amounts of stretch (I am a curvy girl who appreciates not having to get everything tailored to fit at the waist)

Looking for a cotton bralette like this one, but BDS friendly!

I have one of these bras from a couple years ago, and it's perfect. I'll never buy from them again because they've been bought by an Israeli company that operates in the west bank. I love how it looks under sheer tops, though, i.e. it looks like 'outside wear'-- it's like a supportive, very cropped cami, without bulky straps or trim, sort of a less sporty sports bra. does anyone have recs for something similar?

Has anyone been following their work?
I’m loving their web editorial content around purpose oriented style and their new community iOS app. Highly recommended in an area that doesn’t really have this angle covered - specifically answering how can you care for the planet while still being stylish!

Favorite Vintage is Brands For Natural & Breathable, Durable Clothing

What are your favorite vintage brands (and era if they were only good for a certain time period)? I’ve been dressing in predominantly vintage clothing outside of work and loungewear for several years now. Besides loving the fashion of previous decades (especially 60s, 70s, & 90s), another reason I thrift is for sustainability reasons and very rarely buy even modern clothing that is not secondhand.

The problem is a lot of my clothing especially from the 70s is made with uncomfortable materials (polyester especially). While it’s ok depending on the occasion, I walk everywhere and just cannot stand how sweaty and gross these unbreathable materials are. My mission now is to shop only for natural materials, such as cotton and linen. Additionally I’m hoping to find items that will hold ip to regular wear and also not require dry cleaning. Are there certain brands that you find reliable in these factors? Thanks in advance!

Edit to add: I personally don’t wear wool and silk due to my vegan lifestyle but support others purchasing it secondhand to reduce the demand knowing they (wool especially) are generally durable and eco-friendly options.

Shoes for us wide footed folk?

For reference I’m a men’s 10.5, but my foot width is 4.5 inches. They honestly a look a little bit like flippers, it’s kind of ridiculous. Anyways.

I’m on the hunt for some nicer every day shoes, but I’m coming to find in my search for ethical, well made shoes, my options thus far are to A. sacrifice on morals to find something that fits or B. spend a ton of money that I really don’t have. I like the look of Fini’s “Bold” shoes and Thursday’s sneaker line, (yes I know about the PAC thing, I won’t be buying from them) something more casual but stylish like that.

Anyone have recommendations within like $300 that accommodate those of us with dimensionally diverse tootsies?

Garment Upcycling: Hara The Label

hello everyone! this post is both to say how my Hara pieces have held up & to ask for some recommendations for extending their lifespans.

I have some pieces by Hara the label that I purchased back when the company was just getting started (circa 2016). So these pieces are almost a full 10 years old! since the garments are bamboo and are dyed with natural dyes, of course the colors have changed a bit in shade, but I can say that they are mostly the same, save some sweat discoloring & vag discharge bleaching (so, not completely different from your standard undergarments). Two tops were not so lucky and had gotten mixed in with my typical laundry and one got completely battered and bleached on a lights load and the other had an unfortunate incident with a drink (I ended up tie-dying that one).

I wanted to know if you guys had any suggestions on how to alter/upcycle pieces that are a little too large or significantly discolored. all recs are appreciated!

Men's sustainable/ethically-made boxer-briefs

Hey, I just found out my go-to stopped making the ones I always buy. It took me so long to find a company that I feel good about buying from, that makes what I thought was good quality and comfortable boxer-briefs. That was Patagonia, but I went to their store yesterday and they said they stopped making them.

So fuck them. I don't really know where to start with all this info out there, and a lot of the posts I'm seeing about this topic are 2+ years old. I'm just wondering if anyone's got good recs out there. Thanks!

ISO: ethical triangle bra option

Thumbnail
everlane.com
6 Upvotes

Hello, I am looking for what has begun to feel like my own personal holy grail. Recognizing that everlane was never as ethical as *I thought* it was, it is certainly a no-go now. But they made the closest version to my perfect bra, and I am questing for an alternative. There are lots of triangle bras, but most have a very thin under band which doesn't work for me, or do not provide the slight bit of lift I'm looking for, or the straps are very thin, or they have a snap closure in the back, etc. Anyone have any ideas?

Why is it so hard to find clothing manufactured in Europe?

Lately I've been trying to buy clothes in a more "ethical" way - basically those brands that manufacture in EU rather than in low-wage countries, by workers who might work&live in borderline scetchy situations, but it's surprisingly difficult.

Not because there aren't European manufacturers—there seem to be plenty. The problem is finding out where clothes are actually made and if they "European" brand doesn`t just make them somewhere else.

A lot of the brands market themselves as "European", "Italian", or "Scandinavian", but manufacturing information is often hidden, hard to find, or missing entirely. Sometimes you only discover the country of origin after you order, receive the item and check the tag... That seems wrong.

Maybe most people don't care, but I feel like this information should be much easier to find.

  1. Have you come across any brands that clearly show where their products are manufactured?
  2. Do you pay attention to where your clothes are made?
  3. Am I the only one who prefers EU-made clothing?

Curious to hear perspectives from others
