Here are answers to the most common questions we get about accommodation. If your question hasn't been answered here, make a post about it in the subreddit. It's a work in progress.

What are my chances of getting in to Edinburgh?

Links to all the tables with numbers and percentages can be found on this page:

Admission Statistics

I applied a long time ago and haven't received a decision, when can I expect to hear from the university?

Historically Edinburgh is slow to respond and universities have until the UCAS response deadline to decide. It is the individual department to which you are applying that reviews your application and not some aggregated admissions department for the whole the university.

Factors that affect how long it takes include demand for the course and how close the quality of your application is to the average application quality.

A long wait doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be rejected.

If you are coming from abroad and the delay will lead to a problem with visas, etc; or if you have to accept/decline the offer from another university by a certain date, then contact the admission department directly.

Accommodation How is this private accommodation?

The university-provided accommodation (Pentland House) was too far away, so I had to choose among private options. I saw really good reviews about IQ Grove student accommodation, but I see many people advising against private accommodations in general. Therefore, I wanted to know if anyone stayed there recently and how it was. Overall, are private accommodations worse than university ones in any way, except for socialising? Thanks in advance.

Accommodation How is Pentland House?

I was assigned to Pentland House. I have read multiple reviews, but most of them are outdated. If there are postgraduates currently staying in this accommodation, how is it? Is the area secure? Is the commute too long?

I am considering private accommodations as well, so your insights will be really helpful. Thank you in advance

Accused of AI and then received a failing mark

I'm enrolled in an online grad program with the U of Edinburgh and just looked at my feedback for a poster presentation. I received a failing grade - first time ever in my life - and saw that I was accused of generating the entire thing with AI.

I'm really shook right now. I researched it, wrote it, and designed it in Canva. I was really happy with it too and I genuinely enjoyed researching it. I just sent a message to the program email with a link to the Canva doc and my research notes (Word doc) attached, hoping to get a response soon.

The feedback otherwise was really scathing, and I want to be fair, but I can't help but disagree to an extent. For example, they said I completely failed to cite a source for my image but I did - fair enough if I did it incorrectly, but it is there. I'm really upset as I'm normally an A/A- student, B+ at the most *on the American scale!!* (I'm from America sorry :(( )

I've never been accused of cheating/plagiarism/etc before, or had to talk to a professor about a grade I've gotten. I guess I'm just really nervous and sad and seeking advice/support :(

Lifestyle Will I struggle socially as working class student?

I don’t have a strong northern accent but it’s still there. I’d be going as a mature student (22F) to study English Literature

East Newington Place

Hello! I’ve been allocated a room at East Newington Place for the 26/27 academic year. I can’t seem to find much information on what the buildings look like apart from the rooms and common area/kitchen. Has anyone stayed there that knows about the stairs situation? I’d have two pretty large suitcases (international student) to haul up these stairs. Appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance

Lifestyle Jobs

Hi! I'm starting at Edinburgh this September and I was wondering if anyone has any advice for when and how to apply for jobs through the University? Lots of advice forums say a great way of getting a part time job is to try to work in University facilities cleaning or in cafés but I can't seem to find anywhere to apply. Are the jobs just not hiring right now? Do they open closer to term start? Thanks!

transfer

I'm planning to go on an exchange program at the University of Edinburgh because I absolutely love Edinburgh as a city.

My question is: after my exchange ends, would it be possible to transfer all of the credits I earn there and eventually continue my degree at the University of Edinburgh as a full-time student? Has anyone done something similar?

Also, would you recommend studying there for a Bachelor's in Business? I'd love to hear about your experiences, especially if you're a current student or an exchange student.

Accom on exchange

Heyo I’m an international student coming to Edinburgh for sem 2 26/27. I’m choosing accom and was wondering if anyone has reccs for social places where I can meet other students.

I’ll be mainly based in kings buildings (I’m studying physics and I’ve heard this is where the science is taught). I was thinking of staying at uni accom so that I can meet other people, but I’ve also heard it’s a waste of money. I’ve also heard some uni accom isn’t even that social.

Any reccs much appreciate!

Accommodation Room Rearranging

I'm an incoming student who's just been accepted to Lee House in Pollock. In a lot of the Pollock accoms im seeing this weird headrest/storage low shelf on the wall behind the head of the bed. I've seen people move their desk to face the window, but has anyone moved their bed away from that (it doesnt seem attached to the frame)? Furthermore, are bedrisers allowed to accomidate more storage? Does anyone actually listen to the "no adhesives on the wall rule"? Just trying to get a mental picture before I move.

Hello everyone! I'm a visiting 4th year Informatics student from Ottawa for the Fall semester and was wondering about a few things:

burnet house opinions

Hi, I’m considering Burnet House via unite students for accommodation and was wondering if anyone has any photos of the rooms or has stayed there before. Since it’s a newer accommodation, I haven’t been able to find much online. I’d also appreciate any thoughts on the rooms, facilities, social life, and overall atmosphere. Thanks!

Accommodation Accommodation help please!

Hii, I'm an incoming first year studying MEng Mechanical Engineering (conditional offer). I'd like to apply for accoms that are close to where my classes would be, but I've been seeing some varied responses saying first year classes are at central campus whereas others say they're at King's Building, so now I'm not so sure...

where would be good places to apply for that are in a good location? self-catered, preferably single room

Accommodation Room Available - Private Halls

I'm in the process of withdrawing an application for Edinburgh Uni for the academic year 2026/7, and I have a room reserved that is now going if anyone wants it.

It's in Meadow Court, it's right off the main campus and is beautiful. I've left some details below:

*Room Features*

9 -11 sqm

Small Double Bed

Under Bed Storage

Chair

Desk

Heating

Smoke Alarm

Wardrobes

Shelving

Coat Hooks

*Property Features*

All Bills Included

Wi-Fi & Broadband

Lounge

Study Room

On-Site Library

Outside Courtyard

On-site Residents' Team

Residents' Events

Cycle Store

Laundry

Maintenance

CCTV

The entire academic year's cost is £7700. It's a shared bathroom and kitchen situation. Please DM me if you have any questions - I'm more than happy to answer them. To make it worth your while going through me before the company for another room, I'm happy to pay £100 towards the first rent installment.

Accommodation Private accom distance to central

Hey everyone, im an incoming international student and currently still on a house hunt (uni accom is too expensive). Found a good house at EH16 with rent on the lower end. I'll be having classes at the central campus specifically at PPLS. Would it be too far? Google maps shows 20 minutes by bus. Need some advice

Need information

Got a conditional offer letter from UoE for one year MPH. I am a medical student. Graduated last year but don't really have any major work ex to show. The condition is i pay the full fees upfront. Is it worth doing the course with no work ex to back it. UoE is my dream university but I am worried about taking the next step forward

Past conditional offer grades for Medicine

Hi~

I’m a current Year 13 student. I originally applied for Biomedical Science and am on track for roughly A*AA at A‑level (fingers crossed). I’ve since decided I want to study Medicine instead, so I’m planning to take a gap year and reapply via UCAS for Medicine

My top choice is Edinburgh. From what I’ve seen online, it feels like a lot of successful applicants have straight As, which is making me worry about my chances with AAA.

Can anybody share what ve they got for their a levels and ucat ? Plz :)
