We've updated our rules

Hello everyone!

As many of you know, this subreddit has been essentially unmoderated for quite a while. Last week, Reddit appointed a new mod team to step in. We've all been members of this community for a while, and we share the same passion for electric cars that you do.

Over the past week, we’ve been brainstorming ways to make this space more organized, civil, engaging, and genuinely useful for everyone.

To kick things off, we are rolling out an updated set of community rules. The original rules have been in place for years now, and they are no longer enough to maintain the quality of discussions in this sub.

Here are the new rules:

Rule 1 - Be respectful, keep it clean and SFW.

Please be respectful to fellow community members. If you don’t agree with someone, remain civil and disagree respectfully. Challenge the ideas and not the person. Don’t reveal personal information (no doxxing). Don’t spam, no trolling, no baiting. No NSFW content whatsoever.

Rule 2 - Only related to electric "cars”

This community is strictly dedicated to electric cars.

If you are looking to post about electric motorcycles, e-bikes, or other electric propelled non-motorized passenger vehicles. Please visit r/ElectricVehicles.

Autocycles, Quadricycles/Microcars, Passenger LSEVs, Electric Kei-Jidōsha, and Electrified Buses are exempt.

We’re here to discuss the cars and companies, not politicians and CEOs.

Posts and comments not related to electric cars may be removed.

Rule 3 - Put some effort into comments and submissions

Please try to refrain from 1-2 word comments that don’t add anything of value to the topic. In other words, don’t shout from the crowd, sit at the discussion table.

Search first before submitting an article to see if another one covering the same topic has been posted recently. If you’re posting an article that’s paywalled, please try your best to post a mirror / unlocked article in the comments. Try to post an article from the most reputable / unbiased source covering a particular topic.

Rule 4 - Stay on topic

When commenting, please engage in discussions that are relevant to the topic. Do not steer the conversation away or go into an unrelated / vaguely related tirade. Do not bring politics into the conversation if the topic isn’t political, especially if it’s not politics related to EVs.

Rule 5 - Do not spread misinformation

Do not try to pass off verifiably incorrect facts, stats, series of events etc. as statements of truth. If you are unsure, please do a cursory search before hitting submit or state that you are unsure of the claims you’re making.

Rule 6 - Self-promotion

We allow very limited self-promotion upon approval from the moderators. If you are looking to promote something, please modmail us before doing so. Promoting without getting approved by moderators first may result in an immediate ban for self promotion.

No referral links are allowed, please see the referral section in the Wiki for the megathread for codes.

Rule 7 - Anything not mentioned in rules.

It is very important to have some important rules to keep the community a safe and engaging space for everyone, but at the same time, some communities put too many limits in the name of rules. We aren’t one of em - just follow the basics listed above and you will be good!

Anything that isn't mentioned above probably qualifies for posting. Please mod-mail us if you need clarification before posting.

Rules will be updated every now and then, so please check this page every now and then.

Please follow the rules above when participating. Going forward, please report any post / comment that you feel are in violation of any of those rules.

Thanks!

⭐ Review Is the Chinese-market Zeekr 001 much better than the one sold in Europe?

This guy says the Zeekr 001 got a bunch of upgrades in China, including increased voltage to 800v, but it doesn't offer that updated model in Europe. That seems kind of weird. Why are they doing that?

💬 Discussion BEV Pickup Truck/Ute Prices

Slate Truck 🇺🇸: 205 Miles EPA & $24,950 USD

KGM Musso (FWD in Korea) 🇰🇷: ~215 Miles EPA & ~$32,400 USD

MG U9 (In Australia) 🇨🇳🇬🇧: ~219 Miles EPA & ~$37,910 USD

Geely Riddara RD6 (In New Zealand) 🇨🇳: ~202 miles EPA & ~$40,788 USD

Toyota HiLux (In Australia) 🇯🇵: ~152 Miles EPA & ~$53,649 USD

Chevy Silverado EV 🇺🇸: 286 Miles EPA & $58,490 USD

LDV eT60 (In Australia) 🇨🇳🇦🇺: ~180 Miles EPA & ~$66,526 USD

Tesla Cybertruck 🇺🇸: 325 Miles EPA & $69,990 USD

Rivian R1T 🇺🇸: 329 Miles EPA & $79,990 USD

Important to note even though this is how the dollar coverts, that changes and the simple fact is you can’t convert from one market to your local currency and assume that is what the price will be in your market. There’s a lot of factors that goes into pricing a vehicle for any particular market.

💬 Discussion What do you think about Neighborhood Electric Vehicles in the US?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For those who don’t know Neighborhood Electric Vehicles is a subcategory of LSV or Low Speed Vehicles. They aren’t required to meet federal regulations for passenger vehicles so long as they are built to have a top speed of 25 miles per hour (40 km/h) and have a maximum weight of 3,000 lb (1,400 kg). Currently they are a fast growing niche market within “golf cart communities” and beach communities. The prices for these vehicles usually range from $13K to just under $30K. The vehicles featured in this video: u/drivewithchip 🇺🇸, Club Car CRU 🇺🇸, Fiat Topolino 🇮🇹, and the eMoke 🇬🇧 sold by Moke America.

💬 Discussion Xcel Energy Rebates

Just got a Hyundai Ioniq 6 and checking out options from Xcel Energy for reduced rates at off-peak. They have an Optimize Your Charge plan with 25% reduced rates at off-peak, however my car is not included on the list of cars to be eligible. Does anyone have insight if Hyundai will be included soon since the customer service rep said the lists do get updated.

💬 Discussion Stop and Go Traffic vs Battery

I’ll be acquiring an EV for my next vehicle. Can someone who knows tell me, during longer stop and go commutes, is it generally easier on the battery than highway travel? Like, you’re inching along, I’d think the battery would sustain its charge much better than having to maintain a high rate of speed. Or am I mistaken? Not really factoring in air conditioning or heating, which you’d be using in either situation regardless as the weather demands.

💬 Discussion V2L: Big Deal or No?

Ok, I'm considering a few EVs for my next vehicle. The brands aren't important but the presence/absence of V2L is my issue. I intend to use the thing for a very long road trip and I am thinking that V2L would be super handy for things like pumping up a SUP, running the kettle at charging stops, and possibly other uses yet to be discovered. V2L for home power is not a consideration at this point.

Anyhow, if you have a V2L capable rig, do you use the plug very much on road trips? Is it something you'd miss or maybe not so much?

💬 Discussion Electric Vehicle Drivers Needed for Research Study

Researchers from George Mason University are conducting a survey to better understand electric vehicle charging behavior, charging experiences, and how EV drivers respond to charging disruptions and infrastructure constraints.

If you are 18 years of age or older and drive an electric vehicle in the US, you may be eligible to participate.

Participation involves completing a brief survey that takes approximately 10–15 minutes. Findings from this study will be used to improve EV charging infrastructure planning and support the development of more reliable and resilient charging networks.

Participation is voluntary, and survey responses are anonymous.

💬 Discussion TMY Standard vs Enyaq Selection 85

Hello,

I know, that this will probably be question for Europeans only, but want to ask, what is your opinion on these two cars ? Price with Skoda sale is almost same. Just need EV SUV with big trunk because of 2 kids, cheap maintenance, planning solar system and wallbox on our house. I am little bit scared of software and infotainment in Enyaq, but TMY will probably have more expensive insurance. Ride with both cars was nice, just feeling that Tesla is more worth the money and is more “modern?” Thanks for your opinion.
