PSA Sub Rule: No FAQ low effort posts + QQ hanging on 30+ year old story elements.

FAQ = Frequently Asked Questions. Subject that have been asked 1000 times and can be answered with a simple search.

FAQ low effort posts;

  • Hypothetical Drizzt movie/series posts.
  • Can I start reading at x book (we literally have a wiki on this).

Then a few conversations that come up a lot which are generally focused on 35 year old books (notably Homeland and Spine of the World)

  • Drizzt/Drow are ebony and not purple subject (Homeland)
  • Wulfgar abuse (Spine of the World)
  • Catti-Brie v Drizzt age (The Crystal Shard)

I have been meaning to do this for a while. We will start small and see what crops up, then can adjust rule from there. As always im open to suggestions. Certainly don't want to dampen creative posts or engaging conversations, so rules may vary if I notice the community is responding well.

Now to make everyone happy here's Drizzt looking like a 1980s mother going for a power walk;

PSA Discussions and Spoiler thread; The Finest Edge of Twilight Spoiler

This is a space to discuss the new book The Finest Edge of Twilight. Please don't make new posts as the majority of the community will not have read the book for a good few months past release. Use common sense, use spoiler tags, be respectful.

Release date; Shipping starts early October.

Audible release: 7th October.

Note some people have advanced editors edition already.

Please use spoiler tags where applicable.

PREORDER post is here - I always advise to buy from Salvatore himself as that supports the writer and he also does a custom message and signature.

🔥Post-Iruladoon (Neverwinter) Kimmuriel between Timeless and Boundless

Hello friends! I have a question that maybe one of you can answer: what happened to Kimmuriel between the books Timeless and Boundless? Timeless ends with Kimmuriel being kidnapped and then on the next book he's just fine. Is there anything i missed? I'm confused.

Lore Why is Guenwhyvar's ability so unused?

Guenwhyvar can bring people with her to the astral plane. This was a major plot point in the Icewind Dale trilogy with her saving Regis twice that way and later a minor one in Passage to Dawn with her saving overboard sailors. In Streams of Silver she had the ability to take Drizzt to the spectral plane too to defeat the ghost pegasus barbarian.

So why hasn't it been used more in non-combat situations? Drizzt would want nothing more than to spend more time with his beloved furry friend so why hasn't he followed her to the astral plane just to hang out. We know it's safe in there for mortals with Regis just chilling undertheat a space tree in Halfling's Gem instead of dying from lack of oxygen or space radiation.

And what happened to that pack of astral panters in Halfling's Gem that helped Guen and Regis get back to the material plane after he'd taken her statue with them to the astral plane?

🔥Post-Iruladoon (Neverwinter) Do you think Yvonnel will be a love interest for Breezy in future books?

Yvonnel had a thing for both Drizzt and Cattie-brie so it would make sense that she’d be attracted to their kid, who resembles both of them.

They’re both around the same age too.

I could definitely see Jarlaxle sending her on a mission to save Yvonnel and then meeting that way and becoming friends and maybe eventually more…

🕯️General Discussion Ghost King loose end?

In Caradoon there was the portal one of the lichs opened to bring out all the crawlers, night wings, etc. Kimmuriel and his squad roll up to it, try to close it, can’t, and just peace out.

Shortly after, Cadderly and Danica’s kids are getting up to Caradoon, make no mention of this portal and just start heading back up to Spirit Soaring?

Is there just a big ass shadowfell portal sitting there outside of the ward Cadderly is forever making?

The Seattle pop culture museum has a really cool exhibit with costumes and props from various fantasy films and such and they had a neat art room and I gasped when I realized they had Drizzt there!

I was surprised by this amazing handpainted figurine of Drizzt and Guenhwyvar made by my girlfriend. She knew I've loved the Drizzt books since I was a kid, and I've been re-reading them lately.

I cannot emphasize how amazing this is. She had NEVER painted any figurine or mini before. She is really good at drawing, but I could have never expected the amount of work she put into this.

The base figurine was printed with a resin printer by a friend of a friend. As far as I know, it was printed in several parts: the base, Drizzt, the scimitars, Guen, and the crystals. While the resin printer's resolution was good, the making-of pictures show how much detail the paint job actually adds.

I am so flabbergasted. I can't contain my happiness, so I decided to share.

DnD Sword Coast D&D campaign

Well met! I'm new to this sub, but I have been enjoying the Drizzt books for the last 3 years or so. I'm late to the party, but I first read The Crystal Shard in 2023 and got serious about absorbing the tales of Drizzt and his friends. I'm done his whole series now (no spoilers are below) and decided that since people had wanted me to run a new D&D campaign in my friend group, that the Sword Coast was a fine place to start them out. Several of my group are new to tabletop roleplaying, but knew some source material of Drizzt as well, so if you're interested, read on to discover some homebrew shenanigans.

First, all of our intrepid heroes converge and meet as adventures seeing postings for an organization called DART, short for Direct Action Response Team. Basically, DART is a mercenary organization that offers protection, problem solving, bounty collectors, that sort of thing. They have set up shop after a calamity befell Neverwinter, leaving it an almost uninhabited wasteland.

DART is founded by a party of adventures whose wealth and status afforded them the ability to take on such a huge undertaking. Comprising of characters of a previous campaign I had with members of this group, DART is as much a fleet based force as they are on land, and to help make sure they could fight their way through the notoriously pirate filled areas, they commissioned a new ship, full of both wonderous technologies and magical aid, called The Icewind Gale. Upon it, our heroes arrived to aid in the taming of the lands.

Cast of characters (Be kind with their names and such, it's very much the first time for half of my party):

Firstly, our Silver Dragonborn Barbarian, Argento Longclaw. He is actually our nepo baby, the son of a founder of DART and now working through the lower ranks to prove himself to his father. His father is a Bard of no small renown, and Argento takes a lot of shit for not being any good with an instrument, but he is quite skilled at murder.

Next is Jax, a Human Battle master fighter. Born in the town of Longsaddle, his family worked for the Harpels their whole lives. After some terrible magical accidents occurred, Jax left with a deep distrust of Wizards, especially Harpels. Jax excels with the Halberd, and is a fine rider and animal tamer.

Then we have Jim, who is a Half-Orc Paladin. Jim doesn't say much about his faith to the group, but his Oath of Devotion has him on a pilgrimage to this part of the world, as he is a worshiper of goodly dragons and their God Bahamut. His church has heard the tales of a pair of sibling Copper Dragons who were spotted in the region. Jim has travelled all the way from the Bloodstone Lands to give thanks and bask in their glory.

Murphy Mammothfoot is next, and he is a Circle of the Moon Dwarf Druid. From his youth, Murphy felt like he was different than every Dwarf. He preferred the open sky to underground, the animals of the land to his kin, and a life in harmony with nature, which few Dwarves even think of doing. He's been looking for his lost friend, a squirrel named Timmy. Murphy must perform a ritual where he eats a specific animal before he can shapeshift into it, he can really only appear as animals around the area he grew up, around Citadel Felbarr.

Another unlikely Dwarf who loves to be outdoors is Rurik, a Hunter Ranger. Rurik is the least fleshed out of the characters right now, but unsurprisingly, he chose the outlander background. He did want to be from the same home as Murphy, but we haven't breathed enough life into this character.

Lastly is Tarnok, a Goliath Monk of the Open Hand. His background is the criminal/spy, so he has been based out of Luskan, where one of the Ships (Houses) uses him as muscle on the streets and intimidation, on account of him being fucking huge. His underground contacts really help keep the party informed on whatever they wish to know.

If you got it this far, thanks for reading! I have been lurking and wanting to post my campaign logs on Reddit again for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it. If there's enough interest, I may do recaps here to help keep things straight and to entertain you lot.

🕯️General Discussion Does Betwixt Two Worlds have a transcript?

I am unable to focus on anything audio only, especially if it's not in my native language which isn't english.

Does the audible purchase of Betwixt Two Worlds come with a transcript and if not, is there a transcript of it somewhere?

🕯️General Discussion Thoughts on jumping ahead

I am a huge fan of Drizzt and the series. Though as I think about it I am not nearly as far along as I’d like. I’m only just now on Sea of Swords.

On an impulse I picked up Finest Edge of Twilight. I know enough to know who the MC is in it.

Question for the group - as a pallet cleanser should I jump ahead and read Breezy, or hunker down and finish the other 26 books? What would you do?

🕯️General Discussion Drizz’t and Co. will feature in the Upcoming DnD Encyclopedia

Post image
91 Upvotes

I’m a baby librarian, and this year I finally had enough of a Real Job to attend ALA. The marketplace floor includes lots of upcoming/newly released book signings, and while the encyclopedia is not out yet I was able to talk a bit with two of the authors, Michael Witwer and Kalysta Harmon. (I got autographs too, but they’re hidden because I don’t want the wider internet knowing my government name.)

I mentioned a lifelong love of DK products and how I’m currently reading through the Drizz’t series, and Michael talked about how he worked on the Visual Dictionary and encouraged me to check it out! He also mentioned that Drizz’t, Cattie Brie, and Bruenor at least would feature in the encyclopedia.

I know that’s probably obvious to a lot of people here, but I just wanted to share. Micheal in particular seemed like a huge fan of the series and excited to do further work for it.

🕯️General Discussion Why do so many D&D fans hate Drizzt?

By my experience on the internet, i have found plenty of DMs and players (particularly long time veterans of the hobby) who despise Drizzt's character and Salvatore's writing. Why is that?

❄️Pre-Iruladoon (Transitions) FINALLY Spoiler

Reading The Orc King and MY GOODNESS FINALLY. I admit I am a shipper in fiction overall, and I was ready for Drizzt x Cattie-Brie since somewhere in IceWind Dale (after I found out the age thing was a retcon... it worried me for a hot second) and IT TOOK LIKE 15 BOOKS BUT IT HAS HAPPENED. THE SHIP HAS SAILED!!! I smiled so big at my tiny phone ereader screen and shook it like a little doll.

Wulfgar's response was good too, and I'm excited to see where he goes from here if he doesn't just leave the story for good (and I doubt Wizards would allow him to) so know I am NOT against Wulfgar... I just had my OTP and stuck to it lol.

I prefer elves and agile fighters to barbarian-types overall. Wulfgar is great for what he is, he's just not a type of character I usually care much for compared to Drizzt and Cattie-Brie, who are both chock-full of tropes I enjoy.

That is all- I don't really have anyone in my life IRL who cares much for this series (and one old-school Grognard who just hates the Realms overall and thinks all things DnD should return to Greyhawk, and who I was in a room with when I read that section) so I had to tell someone who'd actually care... but yeah the ship has finally sailed! Now we can get to THE ACTUAL WAR THAT IS HAPPENING lol

EDIT: I know I sound immature here, and I promise I am an actual adult, but sometimes fiction gives me the warm fuzzies :3

ETA: wow... people really like this post. Uh, thanks, I guess. I didn't expect a post amounting to "yay, I found a 15+ year old ship" to get this much traction...

❄️Pre-Iruladoon (Transitions) Descriptions & stakes in "Legacy" Spoiler

I'm on my first reading of the Drizzt books (but a longtime FR fan and DnD player) and am finishing Legacy in the next day or two. I feel like there are two changes from the previous Drizzt books I've read: the stakes feel higher and the descriptions of injury seem more vivid and creative. Not that they weren't fantatsic in earlier books, but I'm wincing or gasping a lot more with Legacy.

I'm curious if Legacy *is* that different or if it's just me. I'm also curious if something happened during/before the writing of this one, that freed Salvatore to push the limits. I checked the archives of the sub and didn't see any info and I didn't go looking elsewhere, since I thought it would be a good topic to get opinions on here.

I tagged as "spoilers" so folks can talk freely. I have a chapter and the epilogue to go, and I know there will be at least one more big gasp moment before I'm done, but I couldn't wait to talk about it another day.
