Welcome!
This thread is dedicated to bike recommendations. There's a whole lot of you new-comers eagar to get your first dirt jumper. Maybe you have been out of the game for a while and are behind the times and need some advice. Are you shorter or taller than average and want to find a bike that will suit you better? Perhaps you just want a second opinion on a particular brand or model. This is the place to ask these questions and get expert advice from experienced members of the community!
Please refrain from starting a new thread to ask which bike you should buy, or whether a particular bike is good and instead use this dedicated thread first instead.
Bike archive
In order to try and assist those looking to purchase a new bike, I have created the dirt jump bike archive.
It is currently version 1.0.2 with lots of incomplete (or out of date) price data. This will be an ongoing project primarily run by me. Timelesturkie also has editing privileges and is considered a contributor as well. As of now, we are looking for any users who would like to help with this project. If any of you are enthusiastic about helping to maintain and build upon this spreadsheet, let me know by messaging me directly.
The following link will allow you to view the spreadsheet but not make any changes. Note that the spreadsheet also has a second sheet for a limited range of geometry and dimensional data. I do not have much free time to work on this spreadsheet so apologies for any missing info. It would be awesome to have some volunteers to help. Please keep in mind that the information on this spreadsheet is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Consider it a guide to assist you and always check with the manufacturer to verify the information before making a purchase.

I just recently picked up this for and the two wheel for CHEAP. I would love to run this fork, but I have a feeling the coil in it is too soft for my fat ass (235lbs). I want to say a rebuild of the motion control side may help, but I don't know. Nothing changes no matter which position I have the knobs at.
It is a Rockshox Pike 426 U-turn Coil.
If I can't get this to work, I already have another front wheel and rigid fork ready to go.

So i just bought a used Trek ticket frame and the rear dropout is 142x12. I cannot for the life of me find a wheel with that size anywhere. I can’t build wheels either and none of my local shops build wheels….any ideas?

Around 15 years ago I stepped off a Bmx bike for the last time and never really thought about hopping back on one again. Then about 6 months ago I got my first ever MTB DJ bike to roll around with my kids at the local pump track. Turns out I could still ride a little bit, and it still feels really good to be in the air.
Haven’t had this much fun on a bicycle since the early 2000’s.

Is there a difference between Dirt Jumping and BMX Dirt?
r/dirtjumping • u/crawlin2slow • 3d ago
I picked up one of these for my son. I'm a complete nube to mountain bikes. It's has the mount points for a front brake and I'm trying to find the best option to install one. Are front brakes universal? Are the kits you can buy? Best website?
I'm kinda leaning towards taking it to my local bike shop but wanted to ask on here so I'm not completely clueless when I go to the shop

Recently picked up this GT la bomba for a good price and it came with a marzocchi bomber dj1 that needs a service, in the meantime I’ve thrown on my old argyles, I’ve always heard bombers are very reliable and I also feel like the dj1 will be solid because it is actually tapered where as my argyle has an adapter
I have looked around online and most people say the argyle is better, but mine is a coil argyle RC with rebound/compression and a straight steerer (they also look kinda nice on it)
The dj1 is a 2016 model and has air preload with a coil and rebound too, it also has a proper tapered steerer so I’m thinking adjustment wise it’s similar or equal to my argyle but might feel a bit stiffer because of the tapered steerer and also the beefier chassis, however both forks have a 20mm axle and 32mm stanchions so im not really sure
Pretty much my questions are:
1: what fork is going to be the most reliable / has anyone had any issues with either forks
2: are the adjustments going to be similar on the dj1,
If not are they better or worse? And does a tapered steerer make it stronger/feel stiffer?
3: and just for fun, what do you guys think looks cooler, I like them both honestly lol

Looking for fork 27.5 100mm travel for p.4. (not expensive one) It seems very hard to find a decent one.
I have seen different forks on different p.4 builds.
so far i found a 35 or a recon but i think its too low fork. something like a bomber z2 100mm would be awesome :D
i found a Fox Racing Shox 36 A Float 27.5" AWL HD Rail 2.0 140 Sweep-Adj 58HT Tapered Boost can i make this 100mm?

Dont post alot so sry if this is hard to follow
Ive been think about getting a dj for abit but only recently thought about actaully welding a frame.
I like steel bike and from what i know chromag monk djs are pretty well respected to a steel dj can work.
Ive only just started to work out the logistics of making it. The big things i need help with are
The Geo - will prob just copy a good djs Geo using GeoGeek.com but what djs idk
What is standerdized - are BB, headtubes, seatposts, hub size/through axle size thingy etc standerdized for djs or do i need to plan for them
Materials - gonna built it from 4130 chromoly but dk where to get it and if i can get it for a decent price ( I have a low budget)
- I would prefer butted as that would cut weight but think it would up the price a fair bit as i can get stock stuff anymore then. So that really that important you think, like how much weight would it save.
How - I do know how to weld roughly and have most tools. It more about is there any special tools/technquics i need to use/know about how they make steel djs
Any advice on anything would be highly appreciated
Will try to keep posting if theres intrest

I was looking for my first dj bike, ive looked at many and i think the dartmoor gamer 26 would be good as a first bike but im not sure if its good as a first bike, or if there are any better recommendations. Max budget = 1000USD. Can someone recommend me some bikes?

Recently moved 2 blocks away from a fun looking pump track and looked at fb marketplace to see if I could find a reliable bike that doesn’t break the bank. I was hoping to spend closer to $300 USD max but this color looks cool so I wouldn’t mind raising the budget a bit. Would $350 still be a good deal? Should I look elsewhere with that budget. This would be my first dirt jumper as I mainly road/gravel bike but that pump track is calling my name. Just looks so fun. Anyways, any help, tips, or info would be very much appreciated.
Thank you all and safe riding!
