Another longtime Cherry Creek restaurant is preparing to leave the neighborhood.

Syrup has confirmed that it will close its original Cherry Creek location in August after serving the neighborhood for more than 15 years. While the closure marks the end of an era for the restaurant’s flagship location, the company emphasized that it is not leaving Denver. Its City Park, Capitol Hill, Edgewater and Downtown locations will all remain open.

According to the restaurant, the decision ultimately came down to economics. After more than a decade and a half in one of Denver’s most competitive retail districts, Syrup has been priced out of Cherry Creek.

I just went there and wow, what an amazing new gem in Denver. Their croissants ànd pain au chocolat are freshly baked and delicious. The tromp l’oeil are not just beautiful, the mousse and fruit are perfectly executed, as well as their tarts. The owner was there and was so kind to my son whose eyes were practically popping out of his head- he even gave him an extra pain au chocolat! Please support this wonderful family owned business that is helping that stretch of South Broadway (along with Phatt Matt’s and Molecule) feel more like a neighborhood!

SOL Mexican Cocina has permanently closed its Cherry Creek North restaurant after nearly a decade in the neighborhood.

A sign posted on the door first revealed the closure, and OpenTable now confirms the Denver location is permanently closed and no longer accepting reservations.

SOL moved in 10 years ago as the first tenant in the newly constructed office building at 200 Columbine St. With the appreciation seen in Cherry Creek over the past decade, it was likely that SOL was hit with a lease renewal with a rental increase of $25k, or even $50k+ more every year.

Staff was notified Saturday night and the restaurant closed on Sunday.

Legend Partners has already begun marketing the space for lease as a prime retail corner.

Going to be in Denver from the 23rd to the 25th, coming from Kansas City. If you had to give a group of three a must-have what would it be and why? Open to anything but barbecue. We'd like to try fine dining once, a hole in the wall, some sort of fusion restaurant, a local hidden gem, something just weird, and everyone's favorite local-ish chain for a quick meal on our way home. Bonus if you want to recommend specific menu items!

I'm not familiar with the area and I'm looking for a recommendation for a nice place to take her out for dinner to celebrate on a Friday night. Geeeeez I waited too long for this. Hands down best Tavern in Denver. Prolly the best Tavern pie I’ve ever had. King of Wings is and always will be a treasure to this city. Pizza Monday & Thursday. Wheat Ridge location only. Still got the regular menu as well. 🤌

Been eating at Smokin bbq since the day they opened. Always good the consistency is impressive. This is my go to whole chicken 2 sides easy 2-3 meals $25 that is a good deal, two words not often said together lately.

I got the sausage biscuit (apologies, I had to take a bite first). The picture of this glorious biscuit doesn't do it justice. Everything melted in my mouth.

I also got the pistachio cream puff and the croissant with maple icing (I think) for later. The layers of the pastries were so light, fluffy, and melted in my mouth. I felt transported to a bakery somewhere in Europe.

My brother-in-law was killed in action fighting for Ukraine, so this isn't abstract for me - I want to see Ukraine win this, and I know most of you reading this can't enlist or write a check for thousands of dollars, but I hope you can go get dinner Thursday. Starbird Chicken is a chain that opened up a location on Colorado Blvd. Pretty good food but I noticed at their ordering kiosks they have cameras attached to the top. There's a little green light that shows it's active.

I thought this was curious so I asked an employee "Hey! What's up with the cameras on the kiosks?" He went and asked someone else and came back to tell me that they weren't active they just came with the system when they were purchased and not to worry.

Folks, I used to work in the point of sale system business and currently work in IT. I know this exact machine and its peripherals. It's an Elo Touch 22-inch I-Series touchscreen computer with an Edge Connect 3D Camera. Check it out:

According to Elo's website this device is capable of facial recognition, facial authentication and gesture tracking:

By implementing 3D cameras, businesses can not only recognize a customer approaching the kiosk, they can authenticate known customers and curate personalized experiences for them - allowing customers to access loyalty accounts, view favorite items and pay within seconds using their face for authentication.

This device doesn't ship with software to facilitate this out of the box so Starbird would still have to build their own application to use the hardware. The camera costs $438 on its own so while it's possible that a reseller bundled it with the touchscreen computer it doesn't seem likely and I think that employee lied to me.

This feels creepy but it's not illegal and not even uncommon. Hell, King Soopers has cameras planted all over their stores and watches our every move to figure out how to sell us more products.

But having one in my face so up close and personal feels extremely uncomfortable to me.

ALSO just as a little experiment, I flipped the camera up towards the ceiling. If they don't actually use them then it shouldn't matter right? I went back a couple days later and sure enough someone had flipped it back down.

What are your thoughts on this folks? Would you eat somewhere that's using facial recognition to track you?

Really love their horchata but noticed that like most places these days they overdo the ice. $8 for a 6 oz drink is ridiculous. To top it off, they didn’t even add coconut chunks.

My 14 year old and I are coming to Denver Saturday to stay for a couple of nights. Our flight doesn’t get in until around 9:30 PM and I was planning on taking the train to Union Station and then taking an uber to our accommodation in Five Points. (That seems like the most cost effective way to get into town but correct me if I’m wrong.)

Can anyone recommend a good spot for me to take her to eat in that area? I know the train takes awhile so I’m anticipating it being pretty late by the time we get in.
